I think Eastman guitars are a phenomenal value. They are very well made using quality materials - a lot of bang for the buck. This D18ish model is no exception. Thermo-Cured Adirondack top, mahogany back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge. Good to go!
If my videos have ever helped you find a great guitar or taught you something, and you'd like to leave a tip you can do so here.

Gibson LG-2 50's Original 2024

Recorded with Zoom H8N, no additional processing. Great sounding axe and an underappreciated offering in Gibson's current lineup, IMHO. Great tone and projection from a compact, comfortable guitar. Sitka top, mahogany back and sides, 24.75" scale. If my videos have ever helped you find a great guitar or taught you something, and you'd like to leave a tip you can do so here. Epiphone Texan USA Collection (2023) Strumming 0:01 Flatpicking 0:40 Fingerpicking 1:32 Strumming 2:35 Sitka Top, Mahogany Back and Sides This Bozeman, Montana made Epi Texan has been a shop favorite lately, and rightfully so. Think J-45 with a long scale, so it throws some serious volume out and responds differently than a regular Gibson short scale length. Nothing to dislike here, excellent w...
Martin D-18 Acoustic Guitar Demo 2023

Strumming 0:01 Flatpicking 0:56 Fingerpicking 1:49 Capo 2:55 Sitka Spruce Top, Mahogany Back and Sides. Checking out this standard series D-18 fresh off the UPS truck. There's a lot to love about Martin guitars - and this one has that "D-18 thing" in spades; great projection and a punchy, mid-focused sound. Good setup from the factory, and cool vintage-inspired aesthetic. Keep making them like ...
Martin OM-28 2023 Acoustic Guitar Demo

Martin OM-28 Standard, 2023 production. Strumming 0:01 Flatpicking 0:44 Fingerpicking 1:33 Capo 3:35 Sitka Spruce Top, Rosewood Back and Sides. I've always regarded the OM-28 as a great "middle ground" between a D-28 and a 000-28; you get the smaller, more comfortable body of a 000 but you get that long scale length which helps the guitar to project a little better and push out some more volume...
Gibson J45 vs Martin D18 : Acoustic Guitar Comparison 2023
Просмотров 14 тыс.8 месяцев назад
Figured it was time to do an updated comparison of these two American acoustic titans. Both are 2023 models strung with D'addario EJ16's. Both are Spruce/Mahogany Dreadnoughts - the Gibson with round shoulders and a short, 24.75" scale; the Martin with square shoulders and a 25.5" scale. They're priced very similarly too. Let me know what you think about these guitars. Strumming 0:01 Flatpickin...

They are both outstanding! Some would prefer OM-28 and others 000-28. I like the 000-28 tonal palette of different colours and flavors.
I don’t know why, but foreign copies always seem brighter
Update on this piece of shit goes something like this. I paid $800 for this dog and I go to sell it for trade and in less than two years the top has a huge bubble from regular string tension. I replaced this Chinese POS with a Yamaha FS 820. As far as I’m concerned the $300 base model 6 string sounds every bit as good as ANY Martin. Buy with your ears not with your eyes
Love my D55, first good guitar I ever bought. A cannon.
I wonder how many of these pickups there are in landfill, god they are bad - I am having one removed from my guitar as we speak haha.
Thank you Ian! I bought a J45 10 months ago, and just bought the HD28 yesterday. I am truly blessed to own these two premier instruments!
The pickup setting makes the Gat sound likes it got a head cold, needs a bit of mid scoop
D-35 is far better even though you tried to strum and pick it much softer! If your bias just say it.
I have a D18. But would get one of these too…so good they are.
I just got an L-00 last week. Such a great guitar. Nice playing.
I've owned both. For the money, the Eastman is a bargain. The Martin has somewhat subjectively better tone, but not $3000 better than the Eastman. I currently own 5 Martin guitars and 3 Eastman.
I hear no bass.
👍👌
Hi! Have you noticed any difference between this one and the regular one? Do you think they are boomier than lets say a j-200?
I can’t thank you enough, Ian. I’m looking around for a good guitar to take on trips that aren’t crazy expensive. When I see a video of yours I know the sound will be high quality and you’ll give a wide sampling of styles.
Love that darker sweet sound.,well played brother.
Martin wins
Played a J45 once...the best guitar I've ever played...love Guilds and Taylors, not a huge fan of Martin but major respect to them...but the J45 was something special. Hopefully own one someday.
does anyone know the name of the song at the beginning?
They discontinued this guitar... shame.
Both have there virtues, coming from a owner of a 73' D-28. So all i got out of this is, I want a J-45 too!
nice playing! my vote is for the guild!
The Guild is so amazing!!! So balanced with incredible projection! The lows boom and the highs sing! Lovely beautifully designed guitar too!
OK, I feel silly asking this, but how are we supposed to know which is which? I don’t see him changing guitars there’s nothing written across the video? He’s obviously not talking :-) so how do I know which is which please🙏🏻🙏🏻💫❤️🥰
definitely cedar more full and warmer
I loved the mahogany in person. Amazing.
So the way you have this set up is all of the pedals that you're running are in the loop of the venue? Is that right? Did you try putting any of them before or after instead of in the loop? I'm just building out an acoustic board right now and I have the venue. I've been playing it out a ton but I have a huge collection of pedals that I use with electric so I'm just getting my ears wet with building out the acoustic board.
Someone trade me one of these for my Emerald. It sounds so "sincere"
Too many overtones on the 00028 for strumming. Mahogany always for me at least.
The Waterloo sounded a little different, though not better. Only guitar players that are influenced the head stock logo would find it better. Any differences in tonal colour are more than made up for by the player, and both of these guitars are good instruments. It's just one costs a heck of a lot less than the other. There's no doubt they're both very good L-00 copies, but neither of them are '30s Gibsons
Outstanding!!
I did not know the Collings. Only by hearing I thought the Collings was the cheaper one. Far cheaper. And then I read the other thoughts and realized there price. No way ....
When you hate sloped shoulder guitars…
I own a great ‘71 D-28 and a nearly mystical Froggy Bottom. Looking for a smaller, cheaper guitar to take on trips and not get too broken up if it gets damaged. There are a lot of very good guitars in this category. But I think your video may be a strong influence toward this Martin. So many subtle tones and plays well with so many styles. Thank you!
For the price, solid black ebony fingerboard.
Hello Ian. Bought one today in Holland. (TFOA) -A used one from 2022. Nothing changed since 2022 on the HD28 correct? Should be same as the 2024/2025?
Traded my d28 and d18 just not a fan of the slim necks. Now I'm playing and owning a e10dtc and a e6omtc.
Lots of playing, but nothing said about the instrument. That was a waste of my time....
Martins always sounds so flat to me. I've really tried and wanted to love them, but I can't. Every one I've ever played is just dull sounding to me compared to other guitars.
What strings used? thanks
I love mine. Perfect for finger picking
I have owned a 1971 J50 since new. Bought a 2019 D35 new a few years ago. They each have very pleasing but different voices. The D35 more full and mellow and the J50 more crisp and chimey. Then 3 years ago walked into Kevin's and saw an all-Ovangkol OMC16e with a brown sunburst, just gorgeous. I picked her up, sat down with her and all was lost....... The next day she came home and has been my go-to 6 since that day. Balanced tone like no other guitar I have owned. I sing in a deeper voice than many and she fills that background space well. I named her "Brown Dog". After all, who doesn't love a brown dog? I have owned over 30 guitars, including 5 Martins. She is one only two to have earned names, the other, "Angel", is a 1963 Epiphone Cabellero all mahogany guitar.
What’s song is that?
They both sound great but for me it's the J-45. The two main reasons, and this is just my subjective opinion of course: 1) the notes on the D18's high strings sounded too bright for my ear in relation to the notes on the other strings, and the J-45 was much more balanced in this regard. 2) The overall tone and voice of the D-18 sounded a little boxy to me, not too much, just a little bit, while the J-45 had a much more open voice. Both great guitars but for me the J-45 is the winner. That being said, I'd have to play both before buying.
Correct
Eastman ☺
Yamaha FG series. Best bang for the buck.
Both sound awesome. I would take the 00-28 and replace the bleached bone nut and saddle and plastic bridge pins. And install fossil walrus ivory nut and saddle and bridge pins. 00-28 would sound like Martin Om-42.
I have a ‘56, non-adjustable. Fabulous guitar. The old Gibsons are so good that I named my dog Gibson because he’s a great dog.
Just bought one. Couldn't believe my luck when I found it. Sounds 1000$ better than it costs. The volume on it is huge and the notes are so crispy.
My goodness this is a good example of an Eastman. The Gibson wasn’t bad, but this Eastman has it beat by a mile for me
