THIS is the sound my ears recognize as what an acoustic guitar should sound like. I’ve had all…or almost all the rest, and I always come back to Martin. Fact is, I should have a brand new 2022 D-18 on my doorstep today! Thanks for your amazing “shut up & play” review videos, Ian. You know how to play in a way to bring out the best in each guitar you play. And, your playing style is an encouragement to me. Keep it up! 🙂
Great video as always Ian! I picked up my D18 last year (2021 model) 40th birthday gift to myself, glad I did the price in UK has just gone up £500 (approx $600USD) 😮 I ❤ the D18
I got mine in Oct 2019. Paid the 2019 price and financed it for 4 years at 0%. Just finished paying it off in 2023 dollars. Almost feels like I stole it. 😬
What’s the one acoustic you have that you can’t live with out?! Not sure if these are all yours or if you just borrow them but they all sound phenomenal in your hands
Love the new playing layout, I have to say between this and the rosewood on the hd with regards to the same scalloped bracing/spruce platform I absolutely prefer the mahogany. It's magic. Just something about the way it records, sounds so good in person too. Hard to beat it. I hope you use this layout for the smaller martins and Gibson l00/lg2 as well!! Cheers
The guitar sounds great, but I think the pick is a bit too thick for strumming. You can hear it too much, and it sounds almost like ice against concrete.
Has Martin tweaked the design again? This is the weakest D-18 that I can remember hearing, and I've been a hopeless Martin fanboy since the 1970s. Maybe it just came out of the shipping box? Thanks for all of your great videos! I watch your vids all the time--even though I'm not in the market for a new axe.
@@kalvino67 It's tough to judge a guitar through listening to recordings. I just bought a 2022 D-18 and it's a cannon. I went into a local shop fully intent on buying a D-28 Modern Deluxe. But I played a lot of dreadnaughts that day, to make sure I got a good one. I played the D-28, some Huss and Daltons, Collings, and even a D-45. The last guitar I picked up was a D-18. It was the best sounding of all that I played. Not saying there aren't duds in the 2022 line, but they aren't all duds.
@@kirkmichaelsbackyardtunes That’s so great to hear! Welcome to the D18 club! They’re such amazing guitars and such a joy to play. Cannon indeed! Enjoy!
In this video, i feel like the strings were brand new and added a slightly unsavory harshness to the sound. I could be wrong, but i hate when I have new strings on my Martin for a day or so...
No they haven't tweaked the design, and saying 2020s sound better make absolutely no sense. They're the same guitar. You're listening on RUclips. Cannot judge a guitar at all
The OG is back! Come to think of it, two OGs for the price of one! Great guitar, wonderful player. Good to see you back, Ian...
Thanks Lyndon. I'm going to try tvideos. back into making more vids.

Guitars sound great......in your hands🎸👍 Nice Martin . Glad you're getting some in your shop.
Yeah its been tough getting guitars in but things are starting to change. Hope all is well!
@@ianmeadows6351 All's well here and hope the same for you and family Ian.

Haha thanks Jesse - I world for a job, I wish they were all mine! My one lifetime keeper is my 2013 southern jumbo. We've been through a lot together.
I have a fondness for the sound mahogany. Thanks.
Thanks for checking it out john

Ian, which do you prefer, a D-18, or a Guild D-40?
More licks of the day!
I'm gonna get on it!
Thinking of trading a custom shop telecaster for a d18 . Every body should have a tele , but every body needs a d18 . YeYeh.
🔥
D18 or hd28? So hard to decide on which I like best!
👍
Look at that striped ebony Martin is using now or has skipped dyeing.
They seem to have been running through a batch of striped ebony since the end of the summer. Some of them look like they have mud on them.
What strings please ?12 or 13?
What happened to the Vandersteens?
They found a new home!

I agree. I have heard a couple of the 2022 models in videos and these latest D18s seem to lack some oomph compared to my 2020 model.

Any chance of this against the Texan USA. Same woods and scale. What do you think .?
would be curious to hear that 💯
no guitar sounds better than a D-18.
