I've bought a Martin 000-15m which i have installed an electroacoustic pickup 2 years ago and i love it, and last December i bought a Martin D-18 and now i have to say I'm good for life. These guitars are sublime , the D -18 is a quality fantastic guitar and I'm in love with the tone and finish and this one i will not install anything in , i keep it full acoustic
I own a 2016 D-18, and it's a beautiful guitar. Light in weight, with a crystal clear punchy tone and volume aplenty. It's nice to see that the C.F. Martin company is offering these as a stock (i.e. not custom shop) version with what is essentially a pre-WW II specification - forward shifted 'X' bracing, ebony fingerboard and bridge, abalone position dots, imitation tortoiseshell pickguard and binding, plus open tuners. The 1 3/4" wide (at the nut) neck is comfortable to play - another nod to the pre-war era , but with the benefit of a truss rod. The D-18 has a bridge with the drop-in type saddle, far better in my view than the glued-in 'long saddle' design as used until around the mid-1960s. Changing the saddle height couldn't be easier, and it's better supported by the surrounding wood. Long may Martin continue to offer the D-18 built this way - it's exactly what a D-18 should be.
I have a 2017 D18 retro. Not sure if you got dead string on yours or what but mine seems like it has way more sustain and just louder and brighter. Awesome playing though 👏🏻
Wow ... Once again a flat top Fri with a Martin .... Amazing I been lucky enuff to actually play a d18 a newer one .. But still it was at Daddyos music in Stillwater okla .... Badass guitar ..
I don't know , I'm not crazy about the sound , I mean it sounds ok , but not Martin like , perhaps I'm just used to the rosewood neck and the ebony definitely sounds different , less bright less jangle , it's nice but not what one comes to expect from Martin , well played tho , thanks Michael , and Jen.
I always thought ebony was brighter than rosewood. It could be the bracing that creates a less jangly sound. Either way I have a 2019 that I think sounds fantastic.
I have a 2017 Martin D21 special. Really great instrument with the rosewood body and scalloped bracing. But I always prefer a mahogany bodied guitar. Like my 1993 Hummingbird or my 2016 Furch Little Jane
I agree. I never understood the big deal with that. Most of the guitars they feature are out of many people's price range anyway. At least they are out of mine 🤷♂️

thanx 4 that favzep chime : ) Theres an awezone nice studio ‘real to reel’ Tesla version featuring lotta guitars; kinda was shocked when heard firstimed with that gtr solo extent; appears 2be a Gibson of the week44💛 a model I almost gasolined back10; was already on hold, got a tokai 57ish goldtop later. ... def had that LP craze yeahs, yet Martin territorys something I keep for later still. always tended to fix myself on one type/ model/ form for an extended period and play/ed ‘all’ on it; to fully ‘get’ the thing/ the vibe of a particular type of guitar. 🎸😐 ma craze.
Sounds like a bit of a dud! I have a 2020 model and it is has a much fuller sound with brighter mids that really fill the room. This one sounds quite ‘muffled’.
I think it could be the strings and they are playing in a loud open room. If you were to put new strings and a studio mic in front of it I think we’d get a better idea of the actual tone. I also don’t think there is much tone between an ebony and rosewood neck. Ebony doesn’t make them any more mellow.
Doesn't anyone play music with a melody line anymore? I would have loved to hear an old fiddle tune. It is hard to evaluate the sound of an instrument when it is being flogged away at using rhythmic chords. You might just as well been playing a late 60's all plywood Yamaha. I have just about decided to buy a new Martin D18 Standard anyway, but the only part of this Demo that was helpful to me was early on when you were fooling around with those nice Jazz Chords. Really, Cattle in the Cane or Leather Britches would have showed of the capabilities of this instrument better than just pounding away with chords. Probably, my love of Bluegrass Flatpicking has prejudiced me and has skewed my tastes, but some melodic lines and vocal support would have demonstrated this instrument's capabilities better than flogging away with chords. How for instance will it cut through the rest of the band , will the mandolin or banjo overwhelm it? Come on, we're not all 15 year old want to be rock and rollers. I had a 20 year old used Martin D18 back in 1956 When I was 16, wish I had held on to it. I still Jam with Bluegrass Friends at age 80, looks like a new Martin D18 Standard will be just the thing for that purpose.
Am I the only one who thinks it sounds dead? Mine has a waaaaaay bigger projection and low-mids..maybe is the recording or the way Lemmo plays, but for me It sounds a bit "plastic"
Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, but I like that you announced what this guitar was priced at during the intro.
@ape kaspank but the prices are listed on the website anyway. It’s just nice to hear it in the video rather than going to search for it on the site.
me too !
Not me. I appreciated them being straightforward.
Not only do I love Guitar of the Day, but I learn a few new licks! Great job Mike!
My fav! Love the mahogany sides. Best balanced acoustic guitar for mic to the sound hole recording.

I have a 2016 D-18 and I love it. Exciting when the guitar on the stand next to you is the GOTD!!!
Same, well, mine is 2018. But I love it it!
Just like my 2016 d-18. Your right Martin does a good job. Mine was absolutely flawless.
The only acoustic guitar you need
love flat top fridays
Guitar sounds fantastic. Something tells me that once in my hands the sparkle would fade!
Gonna catch a train, far as I can. I ain't ever comin' back. Killer guit.
Great demo of a Martin D-18 in itself. Thanks!
Really enjoy watching Guitar of the Day
Thank You for showing & playing all the great guitars! ✌️
Good job to the guy who smacked the back of the guitar right after the 6 minute mark. top shelf is the cheap ones right?
Sounds so sweet & pretty too 😘 Took a trip to the factory in Nazareth years back. Think my husband still has a T shirt somewhere.
THANK YOU...Lemmo 🙏🏽
My thoughts exactly
outstanding guitar playing!

First time watching they did a guitar that I have the same make, model and year of. Can't play as well as Lemmo though 🤷♂️
Me too 😊

Just purchased a 2020 D18 one word “wow”
I HAVE to own a D-18 before I die….I need that sound in my life….👍🏻🇨🇦🥸
Aha sneaking in a little Mr. Fantasy lol....sounds awesome nice job!!!🎸🎸🎸🎶🎶🎶
Great idea to announce the price of the guitar.
Lovely
Probably gonna have to get one
The tone, Oh the tone...OH the TONE....
It's what drew me into buying my 2016 D-18!
Brian "Blind Lemmo" Jefferson! Love you man!
Lucky you! Here in Germany I have to pay 3.000 €, that is 3.480 $ for a D-18. I bought a 2018 2 weeks ago and I´m happy with it.
you should play like that once a week for the show . it got my wife to stop and listen ... it was that good wow !
Wow ... Once again a flat top Fri with a Martin .... Amazing
I been lucky enuff to actually play a d18 a newer one .. But still it was at Daddyos music in Stillwater okla .... Badass guitar ..
Very nice play
2017 Martin did a re-imagined with the d-18 and D-28. That D18 is a great guitar.👍
The D-18 was reimagined in 2012
@@rewerbm again in 2017 Matt.
@@karenrattray5232 The D-18 was not changed again in 2017. The other models in the standard series were ex. D-28
What are the chords he is playing from 2:50 to 4:01?
Nothing wrong with a more recent guitar! Particularly from Martin! They get nothing wrong! However! Gotta do a Maton!
Or Santa Cruz
did it ever occur to you, that he simply doesnt have a Maton to demo? prolly not.however!
@@denniskramer9657 does it ever occur to you that getting mad over a comment is making mountains over molehills? It's ok though! You do you!
Maton is one guitar brand I have always wanted to try, i think the sound incredible! Would love to see one at Norms
Good job Jen 👍 I think you should give all the prices it would be interesting
Awesome ❤
Totally expecting the guy at 6:00 to drop that guitar
Very nice guitar Sir...
Impressive finger stretching on the demo!! Nice playing Lemmo.

Probably just needs some new strings.
Please do an old mossman.
anyone else had to watch Chris Cornell perform "Thank You- Led Zeppelin" after hearing Michael play it or just me?
Very nice Michael
Is there a difference between the D18 reimagined and the D18 modern deluxe? Or does the D28 only have the reimagined series?
Yes, the MD is lighter because of some different materials and a lot more expensive. Not worth it IMO.
I have a 2017 Martin D21 special. Really great instrument with the rosewood body and scalloped bracing. But I always prefer a mahogany bodied guitar. Like my 1993 Hummingbird or my 2016 Furch Little Jane
Nice guitar.
Martin 🙌🏼😍
Lemmo. Martin. Instant 👍.
You guys rock
Get a life
nice playin lemmooo
I want it.
Please always give price
Definitely a Martin for me. Sounds so clear n melodic. For me it’s sounds better than a Gibson 👍🏻🎸🌷❤️
BINGO ....Steven Stills would make that guitar weep
You can’t beat that Martin tone
What strings do you guys string these D18s with?
Martin puts on 2.0 Lifespan Treated Medium Phosphorus Bronze strings, I think. I assume they're still on here.
I use the Lifespan strings when I want them to last longer, but the good old EJ17 D’Addario set works. They just go dead quicker.
You two are a riot!
that is the blusie/jazz sound awesome
Like my drs2 but mine is brighter (the very ❤🎉first model)
I wish you would tell use the price of the guitar on every episode of guitar of the day.
I agree. I never understood the big deal with that. Most of the guitars they feature are out of many people's price range anyway. At least they are out of mine 🤷♂️
Hey Lemo love you playing .. Now learn some bluegrass licks for the acoustic guitars us hill billy's

What’s the song ??
Thank You by Led Zep
@@sankeysinner8367 and the first one ?
@@johnnyvespa2345 “Friend of the Devil” ( some sort of variant of that, I think)
Also, never noticed how much “Can’t You See” by Marshall Tucker has a bit of that “Thank You” vibe until hearing this demo.
LOL I literally thought that's what it was I started singing to it. It's definitely very close
❤
I bought a 1974 Martin D-18 with blue plastic form fit case for $350 bucks from a guy going through a bad divorce.
Kick a guy while he's down will ya! LOL
I have a 2017 D-18 that I bought new from Sweetwater. Different case than what's shown here so not sure y'all's is original :/
It's the correct case. What did yours come with?
thanks for the zeppelin.
Which song was zepp
@@LiamTheCarver the last song was a bit of thank you from zeppelin ii.
Great Playing as always...that guitar sounds a bit muffled to me not a big room sound!
maybe its the new bracing of the 17er model?
For some reason sounds a bit dead on recording, probably the strings or the mic, because I know how a d18 should sound like.
Sounds like my Hondo H18
This the D-18V model?
I'D BUY THAT MARTIN BOX

Time for a string change....
Michael as "Lemmo" in Norman Harris's "Buy or Die ... well, at least listen."

Much prefer a guitar like a j45. Still awesome though
Same thing woods wise, just j45 is short scale.
2017 martin is that the year it was made ? .......Norm says that's the price 20,017
2,195.

I think it's to do with the really thick plectrum he is using! Horrible sound
Agree, sounds like my £150 acoustic
My 1959 D-18 has a better sound. Impressive playing for sure.
I love and own Martin's but have to say the Yamaha FG5 Red Label sounds so much better.
😂
Oh, how "rare" and never seen before, you are really getting worse, you need to reinvent yourself, this is getting booring.
