I am fortunate enough to own this beautiful guitar. The 50’s version feels different than the Standard J45, and somehow sounds different too. It was strange when I played it for the first time. It felt as comfortable as a well worn, old leather baseball glove. It looks great and the mellow rich sound… Gibson created something very special.
It sounds so warm and sweet. Man since I played one, I can’t get it out of my mind
Such a warm and lovely sound. Oh my.
i have the same guitar. Purchased in early 2021. It sound very much the same as yours. Bright, righ and deep all at the same time. Enjoy that instrument!!!!!!!
My 50s J-45 Original was built within weeks of yours, and it sounds great however it’s played: strummed, fingerpicked, nails. I especially like it with a capo between 3rd and 6th fret. I prefer its Round neck shape to the SlimTaper on the Standard. However, I didn’t care for the strap tuners; I had them changed to Waverly individual 21:1 ratio, but kept the ivoroid buttons. That sealed the deal for me. Lastly, the LR Baggs pickup sounds great live through a Fishman LoudBox Mini - although I would only record with small diaphragm condenser mics.
Thanks for putting more J-45 into the world. You make it a better place.
warm sound
You always seem at home on a Gibson slope D, Ian. I try and copy some of your guitar moves, but it never has that Ian Meadows soulful vibe. Thanks my friend!
KSM32 is an all metal workhorse built like a tank :)
I also have this one. really good nice tune and looks good. Ian How about compare between Gibson SJ-200 Original Collection and SJ-200 Historic Collection 1957 Reissue?
I love spruce over mahogany but I have a few. Please tell me about the Baird.
can you compare this to more expensive j45's and southern jumbos, and the j45 standard?
It sounds great, especially for a new guitar. I wonder how consistent they are in terms of sound and quality...
A lot more than people like to give them credit for. Based on talk, you either get a masterpiece, or a piece of shit that should be thrown in the garbage. If anyone had a half a brain, you'd see that every demo with a quality player sounds amazing. That should be all you need to know its all bullshit, and Gibson makes a world class instrument.
You've done so many great J-45 demos. Which in your opinion would you say has the driest, deepest tone?
😎
Has the neck thickness become narrower than 2019 50's original?
