Wouldn't trade my original j-45 for it. They look and sound great. Good video. J-45 is a great guitar no matter the finish. Love the shorter scale length.
Just checked out the whole faded line on Gibson’s site. Love the idea. As long as they execute it in such a way that it looks high end it should do great. When they do a satin finish on their standard line it should look more custom shop VOS and less Generation series. They pull that off and they’ll have some takers.
Gotta agree with Chris here. In the past I really liked gloss finished guitars as they looked cool. As I have learned more about the acoustic guitar, Satin finished ones are a plus for the guitarist as it makes the instrument more resonant and the more it opens up the tone gets better. Another plus I think is that it gets "worn" out giving that faded look, more like a battle scar from continuous wear and tear. Nice playing as always with Chris, really like that Bluegrass and Blues run.
That J45 sounds awesome. Nice to see Chris run the guitar through its paces. The faded top looks interesting but I am still beholding to the traditional sunburst top. I just associate the traditional sunburst with that classic J45 look. But that's just me.
I know this is not a comparison video, but this is your latest video and I’ve binged so many of them! You guys do a really great job! One thing that would really help your viewers discern the differences between the different sounds of the guitars would be too A/B the sounds without the intros, and the ringing, sustained outro between the demonstrations. The brain forgets the difference in sound in his little as three seconds. So to have the strumming back to back and the picking back to back, and the sustained back to back, would make a world of difference in your viewers hearing the subtle differences. Keep up the awesome work.
Chris, I don’t think a satin finish offers more resonance than nitro. The resonance and sustain of a guitar Chris comes from playing it consistently so that it opens up. The gloss nitro shows the beauty of the wood better as well. Gloss nitro does breathe. I own 2 Martin guitars and one is a satin finish and my OO-18 is nitro gloss. Based on my knowledge and experience, I’m not convinced satin resonate’s better at all. Just my opinion. To each his own, I just don’t like to speculate. Great video and thanks.
Today at the local store I played a new J35 faded and the finish looks more like an open pore than a regular satin finish, especially on the back and sides, very cool. Also it was very responsive and sounded amazing.
Beautiful looking and sounding guitar. I have several guitars by different brands which I love for different reasons. I think of my Taylor AD17 Blacktop as my four seasons guitar because of the full satin finish which is more comfortable against my forearm after a time of playing even during summer. I recently spoke to a person who said he wears an old cut up sock on his forearm while playing at home to avoid moisture on his guitar. My Gibson Songwriter and Martin D-18, I think, sound the best, however, I like satin necks a little more as well.
I agree with Nakean Wickliff .I aso think a song would help with the sound.Since it was used on so many songs in the seventies. When you do the back to back comparisons. You guys do a great job and I enjoy watching your videos.
Good video, guys. When Cooper plays, I get a sense of what the guitar CAN do. When Chris plays, I can tell what the guitar WOULD sound like when I play it. On a good day, anyway. I wouldn't kick this guitar out of my collection, and I used to have a J50 and a J45 back in my youth, but these days, I'm a Taylor fanboy. And I'd love that new 512ce...
Sounds like a J-45, a bit more woody. Huge step up from the G45 or J-45 Studio and at about $400 less than the gloss J-45 Standard... Hard case, LR Baggs pickup and Bone nut and saddle... Checks all the boxes. If I were buying a new J-45, the 50's faded is the one I'd go with.
Just bought one. Those reasons that you listed were a big motivator, but I played several gloss j45s, and a hummingbird, and I preferred the tone from the faded 50s.
I tell you what this the first time I’m really thinking about buying this I’m a bug fan of everything Ephiphone and Gibson…but this one seems like heaven to play. That sound is just so all rounded Do you guys think maybe doing a review of the excellente Ephiphone there are not a lot of in depth reviews of that guitar I just bought it and I think it is a gem of a guitar.
With you would do the 30’s faded j35, and pin down exactly hat brace pattern was used in it, Still unclear about this, Gibsons web sight it seems they are all the same in faded. Yet some say it’s the wider brace pattern as used in the used the ej? And the previous j35.
My Gibbons nitro is sticky. Not all nitro is. My Martin is smooth. Also, Gibsons used to check. Now the use altered nitro so it does not. Then you pay for fake checking and aging if you like😊 beautiful sound and playing
they look and sound awesome......my problem is the price.....I paid $1500 with case for my 2016 J35 all gloss......these are $2199 street......$700 price increase in 6 years plus mine is gloss! I do like satin finishes but it is less work....so why so much? companies are taking advantage of inflation.....I have been a lifelong Gibson fan......64 years but charge me maybe $1700 for one of these.........
People say with thinner fineshes the guitars sounds woody. Tell me the old guitars from decades ago do not sound woody. That is what an acoustic guitar is about.
@@tobytootimes7639 I do watch these videos and enjoy them generally, but I just watched this again and man… I don’t think the vast majority of buyers at this price range are completely ignorant about these things.
Please please please play something else on your demos this is not a Bluegrass Festival not every guitar is meant to be played in Kentucky Backwater speakeasies please play some blues or some rock kind of stuff something other than the same thing over and over again I just turn off the demos I don't even listen to it anymore I like your videos I'm interested in the guitars I would buy guitars from you but I'm just tired of the same thing that you guys play over and over
@@wolfgang4078Sounds like a Germany problem not a Gibson problem. They are obviously about $400 less in the US because it takes less work and uses less materials and can probably get them out faster. If it was just a marketing trick, they would be the same price or even more ! Just checked and they are also cheaper than the standard in the UK !
Played one today and wasn't impressed at all and I love Gibson acoustics.Dont buy this with out playing first. On the other hand they had a standard and it was amazing.
Purchased a guitar from these guys. These guys took care of me and went above and beyond! I highly recommend doing business with them.
Sounds great, and this burst is much better looking than the standard J-45 burst… I actually like this one!
Wouldn't trade my original j-45 for it. They look and sound great. Good video. J-45 is a great guitar no matter the finish. Love the shorter scale length.
Love how much I learn from your guitar demos/reviews. If I’m ever in Texas Alamo Music is on my list of places to visit. Thanks to both of you
That’s one reason I love Larrivee guitars. They sound fantastic and very natural. Glad to see some offerings from Gibson with satin finish.

So much brighter and present! I also prefer the burst on this as opposed to the standard model. A serious contender for me!😊

Yep, the ole “run through the paces” comment
I’m with ya man. I love a satin finish. Glossy is too finger printy

Love the j 45 more now. Saving up for mine
That 45 sounds wonderful! Nice playing.
Thanks Chris and Cooper! I like the voice of this guitar. I like the paid-in-full Gibson J-45 I bought from you earlier! Thanks
It was good to hear some blues played on that thing. I'd like to hear more blues on your acoustic demos as I'll be in the market soon.

No one does a burst as good as gibson.
I really think you should check out the burst finishes on the Collings guitars. I think those look great also.

Hi, the top of the classic guitars are polished with french polish. The sound improves it

It looks great. Sigma has done several Gibson copies with that type of finish. Looks much better than the non-faded version.

I have a one of these j45 50s faded the only negative i would say is they chip very easy due to the thinner finish.
dude..... this guitar speaks to me

Love satin finish on acoustic electrics. Will Gibson be coming out with a satin finish 50's LG2 ?
Nice to hear a guitar that sounds like it looks like it will... If that makes sense

Looks like an "Inspired by Epiphone" ! The finish option seems to really improve the sound though, not as dead as the standard. Good Job Gibson!
That and using a bone nut and saddle help.
I am really curious to listen to this beauty plugged too, cause if it sounds awesome just like natural... You guys could capture plugged sounding too!
Is this one comfortable to hold? I had a HD28, loved the sound but had to sell cuz it was so big to hold for long.

How’s the neck feel?
what song is he demoing?
nice guitar ‼️
Hope they make LG 2 faded ....
Sounds incredible. Too bad I already have more guitars than I need.
Looks great
소리 참 좋습니다
Why can't they have a satin or dull pickguard? Just ruins the look. Sound is good either way!
Very interesting observation. I think you are absolutely right Mark.
Dig Gibson review with Yamaha Tee
Side by side comparison, you will wish you had bought the nitro one
To me, Faded I see cheap. If you’re spending this much, they can put a gloss on it.
nice sound but please learn some different songs!
Lack some nitro snap but cool.
2/3 into the video before we hear the guitar. You guys ramble way too long
Why do you go over so many things as if you're talking to first time buyers and why didn't Copper do the demo??
Probably because there are more people than just you potentially buying guitars.
Chris needs some airtime too

Sorry, it`s a marketing trick, they ( Gibson) save money and sell them for the same price as a glossy one. The faded looks poor to me.
He said in the video these are about $400 less than the standard because of the satin finish.
