Beato i love yo but itis jou mis a gud drumer
Love you
Love you and i will see us today
Love you and i will see us
I don't suppose Classical Gas or Sisters by Steve Vai would count?
My favorite thing about this dude is that he gets to the point and doesn’t have a bunch of crap fluff talk making the videos unnecessarily long. Good on ya
And he has white hair like ted danson
Mathew thats more important than the video
That is definitely a plus and he plays so clean.
Well said.
YES. OMG, when you open a video to see a list or find some instructions for something and get 15 minutes of what you were thinking about when you first decided to begin collecting them or something...
Ah yes the song Hotel Wisconsin by the Owls, my favorite
Brilliant
Lol 😂
I laughed way too hard and for way too long at that!
You’re cute
L O L !
Much respect to Nancy WIlson's playing. "Not even going to attempt it" is high praise indeed!
That being said, I was hoping to see her a little higher up the list than #13, but good list just the same.
I agree, I think she should’ve been at least in the top ten
@@gregdeweese2784 If her's is the only intro I can't play, she has to be my number one pick. Otherwise I'm disrespecting her by slotting her behind someone whose intro I can play.
@@fredstuckmann It's a list of "best". Not "most difficult to play".
@@camarofan7254 Point taken.
"Fleetwood Mac - Never Going back again" deserved an honorable mention at the very least. The entire song is pure genius.
And Landslide
I was going to post the same thing and saw your comment. 100% correct.
Though I agree with the sentiment, never going back again doesn't really have an intro, which is what this video is about. The pattern in NGBA is repeated through the song.
Be better pick than the number one in my opinion
Definitely! That’s the song I’m currently learning and the complexity alone deserves to be on the list
"Coming in at number 14, I don't even dare play it."
High praise for the technical skills of Nancy Wilson. Beautiful, talented, and still rockin' it.
so painfully underrated guitar player .
Don't get why Crazy On You is so low on the list though. Definitely way too underrated guitar player, especially for her playing style.
And funny, her performance in that video is a mess! She really is good though.
I recently saw a video interview with Nancy about crazy on you. She said that she would often "Change things up" so as not to get boring.
Even Eddie Van Halen admired her skill as an acoustic guitarist. She in fact gave him his first acoustic guitar and he called her the next day to play what he had come up with over the phone. The woman can indeed play.
If Rick doesn't introduce every song with "Coming in at..." his studio will spontaneously explode.
Lol
Why did you say that, now I can't unhear it.
KC Kasem throw back.
It wouldn’t be spontaneous if it was caused by a specific thing. Just saying.
@@williambryan5188 Agreed. Good catch. Where were you when I needed an editor!?!
"I'd Love to Change the World" by Ten Years After.
Alvin Lee simply SHINES on this entire track including his magnificent guitar solo!
Rick, I’m not a musician but I’ve been listening to music for manyyears. I Just want to say you’re playing sounds flawless. Appreciate what you do.
Excelente selección, yo añadiría Romeo & Juliet de Diré Straits
For a guy who claims he’s not a guitar player you sure are one hell of a guitar player. I could listen to your playing for hours.
Rick is a guitar player. He has been for years.
If I could play half as well as Rick....😜😄🤗
Rick is an awesome guitarist.
I agree, he is 👌 🆒️!!
When has he ever said hes not a guitar player???
Dust in the Wind by Kansas...one of the most beautiful melodies ever
João Correia I know the guy who wrote that. Kerry is a great great writer.
"And not another minute will your $ buy "
yeah but the list is objective.
70s were so legendary, so many beautifully composed songs.
The 12-string intro to Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi is so iconic, I'm surprised it didn't even get an honorable mention, but it's already hard enough to narrow it down to just 20 songs!
I waited for him to put this one on the list. I came down here just to see someone mention this song.
Oooh yes! That is a classic!!
@@Marcos-we5cwme too!
That guy is stucked in 60s and 70s 😏
Oh yes
Contributors like Rick Beato enrich RUclips immensely.
@@timhitt9541 3 lamps a file cabinet and a big glass window..
@@scotsman6712 underrated reply.
The fact that Universal Music Group *will* take this clearly educational video down if it dares mention the name of their copyrighted material shows that our laws have gone insane.
You mean they'll enforce copyrights on masters they let burn!? Karma train is coming for UMG
It's not even our copyright laws (which are insane in their own way). This is RUclips's method of enforcement of their rules, which is a whole other clusterfuck.
It's just an abuse of the system. He could actually play part of it, but if UMG flags it, RUclips will take it down until it can be ruled "fair use," which it undoubtedly would be ruled. However, I don't blame Rick for not wanting to go through all of that. So, in a way, you can blame RUclips.
leafbelly what happened to innocent until proven guilty. It seems like they have it the other way around.
@@lukeschannel2983 it's because the sheer volume of content on RUclips prevents actual intelligent analysis of the context of every piece of use. So instead they use a computer algorithm to just find instances of copyrighted audio or video and auto flag. Basically, they're using a better-safe-than-sorry technique so they don't get sued by the record labels and individual users don't have as much muscle to push them around and actually get the laws enforced as they should be.
I almost got a tear in my eye. I miss those days so much. I envy you brother. I was just a punk kid for almost all those tunes. You are awesome. Thank you brother
Man, honorable mention to Blackbird by the Beatles, such a great intro!!!!
"I' don't even dare play it" ultimate compliment to Nancy
A sadly under-appreciated guitarist. She is truly amazing.
And yet it was so far down the list.
@@EphemeralTao
Her vocals are also underrated in my opinion.
Her harmonies on with Ann on songs like Dog and Butterfly are just beautiful. 😍
Have to agree! Nancy is, and always was, an incredible guitarist, vocals that were really better than Ann's, not to mention she is a beautiful lady.
Uhm...I actually find that riff is easier to play than some of the others...but is pretty much at the top in terms of being awesome. The hardest lick IMO was Roundabout, and Beato had to splice takes in the video to make the transition sound right, which is the trickiest part of the thing, and the part I have yet to get right myself - lol. The other hard one for me is Salisbury Hill, but maybe now I've seen Rick do it I might have better luck. Thanks Rick!
Man I miss the 70’s. Definitely good years for music.
Yep the 60’s and 70’s. I’ll go ahead and say it. “Today’s music is NOTHING compared to the 70’s. What we have now is a digital wasteland, for the last 20 years or so. Listen to virtually all of the music now; there really are no music instruments in most of it, and really no vocals to speak of. No harmonizing, none of that. We did not know how good we had it back in the 60s and 70s, and how rich that period was.”
The best, people believed in music more..bowie explained it perfectly in one of his interviews
Looks like we need a PART TWO for this list :) Especially for "From the Beginning" by ELP. You already have Steve Howe represented, but man...that intro to "And You and I" is absolutely sublime--and when the rhythm kicks in...that part taught me how to move that position around :)
First song I thought of when seeing what wasn't on this list was "From the Beginning". Could hear that acoustic intro a thousand times and it wouldn't be enough! Steve Howe is not of this earth! Badassery! 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Mood for a day
Roundabout was a sure thing to be there
Yes, agree, From The Beginning by the great Greg Lake 🌷 is the biggest missing one here !
Hell yes!
This guy does a great job breaking down the rock music of my youth, 60's,70's, he plays multiple instruments and I really enjoy these videos, much appreciated.
"Wish you were here" still tears me up, it came on the radio several times when I had a hour and a half drive to see if my father had passed away in the night...he had.
I cannot listen to it anymore . After my brother passed , I heard it n just lost it. Game over
@@JWilks-lk7thso sorry for your loss, man.
Dustin Myers Lost my dad 2 years ago. Not easy. Condolences.
Music is so very evocative - of the exquisitely beautiful moments in our lives, and the tragedies. Best wishes to you from a fellow traveller.
The day after my father passed away Time by Pink Floyd came on the radio, Pink Floyd were our favourite band... I played Wish You Were Here at his funeral, but Time really got to me because he died from alcohol abuse, he went from being clean just to wasting his life away... Time stops for no one, always say goodbye.
More than 50% of the people in comments are confusing best intro with best song.
They are confusing it aren’t they...but it’s hard to have a great intro without a great song, socwe can forgive them. 🤣🤣🤣
or disregarding how Rick described the type of intro he meant, not just a same chorded leadin.
Nah, there are a ton of great melodic intros that people have listed that would work well this top list. It's all subjective though so no biggy.
Mccartney I guess had no talent for this at? C'mon man!
Great clip. Sweet Home Alabama, or was that outside your criteria? Not whining. Just asking. Thanks. Also, what about a possible double-hook intro, like Wish You Were Here?
I am surprised that The Doobie Brothers didn't make the list with Black Water, such a great intro and solos.
Yeah, one of the Coolest intros I've enjoyed jammin.' 👍
one of the best , and iconic song to this day
@@Thadmotor1044 Big 1044 on that one.
Yep, just said the same thing. So many of their intros make their songs immediately recognized as Doobie Brothers.
@@CWBella Like your style. 👍s Up.
It makes me so happy to have someone with Rick's skills, knowledge etc. to put Stairway at #1. I'm a veteran of College Radio and have had to put up with a lot from people who are *not musicians*.
Lawyers. Leave Rick alone. This is how we learn and inspire.
Exactly
Why would anyone seek legal retribution for someone actually performing copyrighted music (and not just playing a recording of it)? [Edit: I've now seen the clip of a recording. Still it's educational.]
Yes, let people pay tribute and learn. But, don’t blame the lawyers, they’re just the firearm. Someone else is pulling the trigger and someone else makes the laws.
@@DJDisalwaysright boom! Yep, gotta look deeper. It's about destroying art. Inch by inch, century after century.
If Rick is playing this intro, think about the publicity to go and stream the song. Artists should be proud to have their intros featured. 12.5mm views. You can't buy that kind of publicity.
When I think of great acoustic openings I immediately think Dust in the Wind
So did I.
Same. I’d take Dust In The Wind over Free Fallin’.
Both instantly recognizable but Dust is just a better guitar part IMO.
Bad English - Time stood still ... is magical.
Right? How could Dust In The Wind not even make an honorable mention? C'mon RICK!
Great compilation! Yes, #1 was obvious before the video began, but so many other great classics in there. Loved seeing Boston represented twice. Subscribed!
From the begining (ELP)
And you and I (Yes)
Two great intros for two great songs

@Liberty AboveAllElse no, I was one of the very few people who can play guitar that time in school
@Liberty AboveAllElse It feels good to hear that kind of childhood memories from you. I had the same experience back in school. Playing guitar after classes or breaktime was kind a like our routine 😄
There's one song missing, but really it isn't the greatest acoustic intro in the world, it's just a Tribute
Which is it?
@@Royal-df2lh it was the best song in the world

Rick, I’m at best a novice guitarist having picked up my first guitar at 46. I always wanted to, just never had the time (or money!). Finally, I had enough of both and dove in.
I tell ya, I just love picking it up and trying to figure out new things.
Where you fit in is as one of my inspirations to do so.
You see, I watch a lot of RUclips. I hate commercials, and prefer to get down to it.
There’s something about your demeanor and passion about music that exists in me (just not as much talent and experience).
But, again, I heard your overall message, ‘Music is awesome’ it’s okay to ‘love it!’
I just felt like I should tell you your content is always as much refreshing as it is inspiring.
I’m not asking you post everyday, just when ya’ feel it, brother!!
With age, we both know, quantity just dilutes the important stuff.
My man!
Sincerely,
Troy Wills, MA, BSN
(I went to nursing school late in life too, guitar was implemented to make sure every day kept some fun in the ‘10 min here, 15 min there’ I had to spare between classes!!)
Jerry Cantrell creates amazing riffs. Super talented guitarist!
Can we just give this guy the credit... this is his list. He’s super talented.
Make your own video.
everything he, and everyone else said here is so cool! and not even all of it is mentioned! a lot of these i can recognize with the tempo, or the first 2, 3 tones, notes! (listen to them for 40+ years!)
So we can’t discuss, disagree, or give our opinions? We can only agree or make our own video? Does conflict upset you too much to grow?
@@eclipsewrecker As I said this is his list. It has nothing to do with your or my “growth”. His talent is an entity unto itself.
@@jamiekunz3761 so why are you even commenting? Stop jockin this dude.

Man I feel the "Wish You Were Here" intro in my soul dude.
Nancy Wilson is one of the greatest guitarists period. So glad you had her on here!
100%
Always loved the intro to "I believe in father christmas," Greg Lake
Glad you included Nancy Wilson. Was surprised by the choice of Paul Simon, but that album was one of my favorites of the 60s, so bravo.
Appreciate you switched to the black guitar for Chris Cornell, what a nice gesture. God bless him.
Rick, I don't know you from Adam, just found this post by accident, but boy, did you make my day. Not only great choices, but the look of pure joy on your face talking about them made my week. For that dear Sir, I salute you.
Adam Neely?
This is just magical Rick, thank you so much. I love these videos
Alice In Chains #16 is one of the best intros in general and had such a positive touch in it!!! When Layne belts out „Yeah hey I want to travel south this year!“ gets directly into my soul so deep that I don’t know if I should be so happy or just cry out of happiness ❤️!!!
Yeah great song, play this when driving with my sons.

Awesome selection of artists Rick! I came back 3 years later and I'm listening to all of your videos again. I really loved listening to you play those acoustic intro's. I could listen to you play all night! You rock!
Seasons by chris Cornell is one of my favorite songs ever, thank you for mentioning it. SO fun to play
The intro to California Dreamin' by the Mamas and the Papas has always been really haunting and interesting compared to the rest of the song!
Tommy Tedesco
The vocal harmonies on that are pretty nuts though
The Mamas And The Papas are widely acclaimed for their stunning vocals, as they should be. I feel that John Phillips’s songwriting, guitar playing, and most especially his arranging are vastly underrated.
Finally, Nancy Wilson gets the recognition she so richly deserves.
Saw her live a year ago. Amazing.
Nancy is simply awesome.
Yes, but not because she is a woman, because she earned it.
Should have been at #1 based on the fact that Rick didn't even want to try it!
Lick was composed by Roger Fisher and it is super easy to play
I find myself smiling throughout your list videos. The impact of rock on our lives, dominated by the 60s & especially the 70s.
The people that aren’t letting you play their music are missing out. There are a lot of songs on here I never even heard of and now I am a fan of those songs and streaming them.
I'm not a musician, just a music listener and I LOVE this channel.
"California Dreamin" by The Mamas and The Papas deserves at least an honorable mention. The introduction is immediately recognizable when heard.
Not only that but those harmonies!!!!!!❤️
CRAZY ON YOU!!🙌🏾🔥 Nancy is amazing❤
As soon as you said you wouldn't dare play #14, I knew exactly what song it was going to be!
Anybody else out there that could have sat through Ricks, "TOP 1,000 ACOUSTIC GUITAR INTROS OF ALL TIME" Ha! What a treat this was!! As always, thanx Rick!
Yup would have sat and listened all day. ;)
It had to have been nearly impossible to come up with your final 20 selections! Great list Rick.
Count me in on that!
A Rottie yep
Even then people would have songs they thought should be there. I was hoping for Tesla's What you give.
some people don’t realize the fact that this is HIS top 20 and that he can put what he wants in it
@Rowan Melton So you really expected some kind of a scientific objective list? How the fuck would that even possible to measure in any way? It's self-evident if you're not an idiot that it's his list, what else would it be.
@@MrJuuberi Actually there could be a scientific objective list. See, the mind can only process so many vibrations at a time therefor some of the most simple melodies can release the most dopamine compared to someone trying to cram a bunch of notes together. So yes, it's completely measurable to someone who has the time. I don't expect someone who uses the word idiot to understand, maybe you should read a neurology book sometime.
@Rowan Melton Then maybe that's why he said "In this video I'm going to countdown 'MY top 20 of acoustic guitar intros of all time'..."
Alex Defatte the genius behind “the importance of saying no,” which confuses the medulla oblongata’s function in the brain and the basics behind our body’s’ defense mechanisms, before tying them haphazardly to the very voluntary decisions like “saying no”. You’re underestimating how the brain can understand music by a long shot. There’s a point where notes are indistinguishable, but that point certainly isn’t reached by this one guitar on one track. Shits dumb. But to end on a brighter note, you really should do another cover of that “angel” song you worked on a while back. I know this is way off track, but that was way better than that “I’d die for you” or whatever it’s called song. “Angel” deserves way more appreciation. Also, you should really get to recording separate audio tracks together through GarageBand, Ableton, or whatever daw in order to make your stuff shine. You have really good ideas sometimes, but it’s just unbearable to hear them through a shitty mic and single guitar. Working with a daw and actually sitting down and producing something could let you tweak your sounds and make everything from your vocals to your drums sound 10x better. I hope I can hear a fully mastered version of angel one day.
Thing is is I can't disagree with it. Not a lot of good acoustic intro with today's noise called music.
Great list, as usual!
I vote for Crazy on You #1
It’s so cool seeing how much Rick loves and acknowledges AIC.
I love that Rick is not stuck in a musical time warp and he recognizes and pays tribute to music of multiple genres and eras
Indeed. He plays both kinds of music: 60s AOR _and_ 70s AOR.

The Animals guitarist, Hilton Valentine probably came up with the MOST iconic riff in the mid-1960's to the song "The House Of The Rising Sun." That guitar part made many kids in the 60's pick up and learn guitar. Hilton Valentine passed away in January 2021.
NO!!! MY DREAM OF MEETING HIM IS CRUSHED!!!! 😭😭😭😭😭
rawblues - I totally agree with you.
Not 100% familiar with the history of the tune, but did he write it himself or did it already exist from a prior version? I know there have been a thousand interpretations of the song over the years but I’m not aware of the actual originality of The Animals version.
But it's not played on an acoustic. It's played on clean electric.
@@kamyar9782 ah okay, thanks.

The acoustic intro to "California Dreamin'" evokes a wanderlust in me.

Great list! I have Stairway to Heaven as my ringtone. People always turn and look when my phone starts playing that tune. It is very recognizable ❤
Glad to see Jim Croce represented on the list. His music is such great acoustic fun.
He was He so was one of the greats
'Lover's Cross' is my all-time favorite of Jim's. Just perfection.
And so meaningless
Was coming to say the same. Love Croce.
I've always rank Jim Croce untimely passing ( barely in his prime ) to be one of the greatest musical loss EVER...Imagine what great masterpieces he could've come up with if he had lived into a ripe old age?
I think “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas definitely should have been in here
It's a little simplistic. Not a criticism as it served the song well. Maybe it's one of the 20 best known.
Me too... Maybe he just forgotit !
And styx (boat on the river) too
He cant play it
I was expecting this song and disappointed it didn’t even get an HM. I love the story of how this song came into being, Livgren was trying to teach himself fingerpicking style when his wife mentioned she really liked the tune and it grew from there.
Rick...I must confess I'm an old guitarist and have been playing for years...I get this guy through check point at the airport and he's carrying a Gibson case and heading to Germany.... So I have to pull his guitar and check it through security and I'm like Wow ‼️ sweet guitar, wasn't the typing les Paul but smaller double horned custom..... Of course I close it back up and return it to the gentleman and he's like, yeah its a custom Rick Beatto build and they were sold out pretty fast and I didn't even know who he was talking about‼️
Thus the RUclips search and BAM ‼️ There you are showing some of the best improvised guitar licks from the Aristocrats and I'm hooked‼️‼️‼️
Well done sir, well done🙏
Man, the tonal quality on these guitars is superb!
I want to thank you, Rick, from the bottom of my heart, for renewing my love of music. For sure. He's doing things I can't do in this vid.
It's a lot harder than it looks believe me
He can play for sure!
Not only that, but ridiculously cleanly. He's setting a real high standard.
Great video. Good reminder to us that write songs how important these intros are. They can really make the song memorable and grab the listener from the onset.
Solisbury Hill and Cats in the Cradle-excellent choices.
His playing of Seasons was so good it gave me chills. That is by far my favorite Cornell song.
Same, I love that song so much.❤️
It's good to know that we have not forgotten Chris Cornell
The intro to Crazy On You has long been my favorite acoustic guitar riff. Rick may not have ranked it as his #1 pick, but I think it says something that it's the only one that he didn't even *try* to replicate.
Nancy Wilson is a guitar goddess.
Would have also like to have seen Fleetwood Mac's "Never Going Back Again" which is also pretty darn challenging.
Thats my number 1 for sure.
INDEED!
Exactly, he didn't even try...should have been #1
Usually with these countdown, there are some debates about #1, but you nailed it. Absolutely no question!
You should do a countdown of the most overplayed songs. Motel Colorado by The Sheagles would be #1! 👍😆👍
Great video! I love your work. 😎
Oh man! I so wanted to see you tackle Heart's Crazy On You intro!
He said these were HIS top 20 not yours. We could all list OUR favs but glad that he shared his. Fantastic job.
Exactly. People are not nitpicky.
Give a Little Bit by Supertramp was always instantly recognizable and memorable to me.
Agreed...! 👍🏽🎵
Absolutely, How about even in the quietest moments
Almost forgot...Zebra " who's behind the door "
Jimmy page is so talented.. I love the " rain song" intro also.
Thank you Mr. Beato for this free MasterClass! Absolutely sublime list. What I could really use, though, is a 12 hour video of you playing 12-string because you make that damn piece of wood SING
If this video doesn't increase the sales of 12-strings I don't know what will.
LeRagster learned on a 12 string. It’s all my old man had so I didn’t have much of a choice but I’m thankful for it.
@@jmathieson15 You deserve credit for learning the hard way and not taking half the strings off
@Breaking Brad lol.. nice - did you make the purchase? i was looking at a nice seagull a few days ago -
As I was watching, I was thinking, "I need to purchase a 12 string."
@Breaking Brad Great idea! 12-string sounds soooooo much better than 6-string. IMO
Don Henley just sent me an invoice for listening to you play that intro.
Hahahahahaha
@@TheGnob27 was written by Don Felder not Don Henley
@@maxbrown347 Felder wrote the Intro, the chord progression and basic melody. Henley wrote most of the lyrics with help from Frey. Henley/Frey fleshed out the arrangement. The song is credited to Felder/Frey/Henley.
And he just sent ME an invoice for reading your comment!
@@JohnDoe-zn5bn Haha, touche!
Superb playing Rick and one of your best videos 👏🏻
Excellent Rick, thank you so much! Shout out for Steve Hackett - Blood On The Rooftops.
So glad Over the Hills and Far Away was on the list. It’s the first thing that came to mind when I saw the title of the video.
Your videos are fantastic. Keep up the good work, sir.
I knew that was it the second he mentioned pull-offs :D they are tricky indeed!
Ryzer one of the best acoustic intros
I learned how to effectively play pulloffs playing OTHAFA
Yeah, it's a majestic intro. 😌
Some people just have the gift of music. And you sir, are one for them.
Thank you for sharing your amazing talent & musical wisdom with us
