- The Iris AB was introduced in 2020, and is inspired by the Gibson J-185. It has a "Small Jumbo" body shape, Sitka Spruce top, Honduran Mahogany back and sides, Rosewood fretboard, 25" scale.
I have only gotten a chance to play with our first batch of guitars from Iris for a week or so - but I am very impressed by the tone, aesthetic, and craftsmanship for the money. I'm definitely a fan of the Small Jumbo - it's a great "sleeper" body style that doesn't get used enough. They tend to be comfortable to play, but still retain a lot of that GoodGood Jumbo thing... Looking forward to more!

Excellent review. Perfect playing really brings out the complete tonal spectrum. Nicely done! I have one, with a K&K, coming this week. I have nine very nice acoustics, but I have a feeling that this one will become my "go-to"!
This is one of the few videos that has made me want to buy the demonstrated guitar. I hadn’t realized how versatile the small jumbo size is. With mahogany B/S and a 25” scale, this is no mere J-185 knockoff.
Oh man, I love what the Iris crew is doing! I was a week away from a deposit on their OG model back in 2020 before I stumbled upon a used Larrivee 000-50 traditional locally that I couldn’t pass up. Maybe one day I’ll snag an Iris…

Have to get accustomed to the headstock, but the guitar!!! Makes me believe the J-185 body shape much better suited to Sitka/Honduran over maple b&sides. By far.
