Nathaniel Murphy @ZeppelinBarnatra is one of my favorite guitar players around today, so when I got to stop by @chicagomusicexchange I had to hear him play one of the most unique guitars I've ever heard, a 1964 Gibson Dove B-Bender.
Thanks to @MichaelWWestbrook for filming! Follow him via the link.

Thanks so much to Rhett and the guys. Was a pleasure and an honor to play and hang out. I’m also blown away by the lovely comments from you all. Thanks so much folks
I just subscribed to your channel. That was awesome.
Listening to you with that Dove reminded me of my dad. He played for around 60 years & would often just sit in his music room playing different songs, guitars, arrangements for the pure joy of it. Thank you!
Awesome player man. Followed you on Insta for a good while now. Also awesome surname 😉
Legend
Your rendition of Kashmere.? 🤯
Stunning!
I lost my husband in1987 to a cardiac arrest but he played to me every night. He went to HS in Madrid and he began playing there. I swear he could do almost anything with a Guitar and had a Les Paul. Loved this video and I was in that shop in Chicago. Thanks guys. I’m 78 now and miss this.
what a great memory you have.
Loving, fond memories - the best there is. They remain with us forever.
All the best to you Patricia.
Thanks everyone. Those guys were and are great!!!
Patricia,
He's built your new house. And he's waiting for you there. Sitting on the porch with his guitar. To play you some beautiful new stuff he's learned.
Everything happens for a reason. And when you get there, he'll be right there waiting. So don't be sad. He doesn't want to look down and see you sad. So smile for him. Smile because you know you'll see him again! I love you Patricia. And that love will get you home to your husband.

Beautifully written and so happy to receive your message. Thank you beyond my words.
Wow, that acoustic of Kashmir was just astounding.
Check out Marcin. Acoustic master. His version of Kashmir is really unbelievable.
Man it truly blew me away! Took me a minute to figure out the mechanics because I dropped in the video during that song. What a bitchin guitar and an amazing arrangement!
Yes, loved that.
Wow. What a talent.
The guitarist of Led Zep would be so impressed.
I’m in a rough place right now. Won’t go into it but hearing Nathaniel play those tunes got me feeling alive today and brought healing. It’s an honour to watch mastery like that.
Just saw your post and felt compelled to let you know you are not alone. Just wanted you to know.
Hang in there Curtisunit and you too Debra Martin
Thanks for the nod! Hope you have a Merry Christmas!
Hope you’re better mate. Glad the music helped 🙏
Same. This session felt like home. A summer long gone. Just hanging out with your best buddy and trying to pick these tunes together
I am such a huge fan of Nathaniel's. That was the coolest arrangement of Kashmir I have ever heard!
Jaw dropping.
How is Nathaniel not HUGE on RUclips already?
the Percussion IS insane
I swear I heard a looper. Just amazing 🤩
that playing blew my mind i knew he was good but holy shit. i feel like a beginner all over lol
"In My Life" and "Kashmir" as I've never heard it before on acoustic guitar...nor ever will again. Simply beautiful, man.
Anyone know who the English guy is? Does he have his own channel?
@@collintinwauld4931 His name is Nathaniel Murphy and type his name in the RUclips search box...it'll pop up with all types of vids covering all types of music. He's very gifted.
Yeah a little pedal steel behind the acoustic wold be way cool on "In my life"
Also, "Kashmir" just listened to that bit...jeezus how much is going on here? Only need cymbals between his legs! Gifted
@@brainscott8198 cheers for that Brian. 👍
Nathaniel, your version of Kashmir makes my soul fly. You should be playing on the world stage. I'm not a country guy, but your "country" rendition of "In My Life" is incredible. Thank you.
You should take a look at Michael Shulman's version.
In my life is country?😂
It always depends on the musician.
rythm part of the song?i didn´t remenber it by being kashmir ,i have the kashmir album but the song with that name came in other record didn´t it?i know the rythm it´s been used on jamiroquai song from godzilam movie where he fakes to dance on top of the backrest of a cinema´s chairs
Heard (and seen footage) Beatles playing around w/ a little bit of Country.
Magical Kashmir version starts at 12:40 this guy's skills are phenomenal.
Oh my sweet Lord, that Dove and Nathaniel Murphy's playing and arrangements are, well, like a religious experience, they're so heavenly.
I bet even Jimmy Page would be blown away by that version of Kashmir. OMG.
Mind blowing
I'd love to witness his reaction. Jimmy loves a B Bender too. He's had them installed in Les Pauls..
he'd love it. I love it. Awesome gadget. I'm surprised Page didn't have one.
no doubt Lennon would be blown away by In My Life as well
Jimmy page 😅?
I love how humble Nathaniel is after playing such an amazing version of Kashmir.
What’s a Kashmir?
It's the song Kashmir from Led Zeppelin
Playing the rhythm, the melody, some base note knocks, AND some percussion all at one time and with just his two hands and a guitar - incredible!
Lets take a moment to appreciate that Nathaniel does both tunes perfectly in one shot…
Yes, agreed. A rare sight indeed. There's many thousands of hours of practice behind that playing and possibly hundreds on those pieces of music. What a gift and a great commitment to the craft.
Yeah.. that is pretty incredible when you think about it. Also just off the cuff, like.. ‘let’s just do this right now’ and flawless. Been following this guy on Insta for a long time. He’s in a class of his own.
@@JulesFox lllllll
And the can of dip in Michael's pocket.
And after he says "I've made a fool of myself" lol that slayed me when he said that!
I'm 70 and have been playing guitar in bar bands since age 15. Enjoyed watching these youngsters having fun. Thanks.
This guy needs a well produced instrumental album. I’d listen non stop for months.
Those versions of "In My Life" and "Kashmir" were absolutely insane on the Acoustic B-Bender!
Glorious! It sounded like he played every instrument in the song! My late brother left his Les Paul to my youngest son and it is beautiful and wonderful to listen to!
@@lindahandley5267 Totally takes next level skills to play like this. Dude is amazing.
@@sn4rl277 For sure. What a gift to be able to create such a beautiful sound. You sure have to be dedicated and practice a lot to get to that level and develop your own signature style. I love the look on a guitarist's face when they zone out. 😊

@@432b86ed Great. I like this instrumental versions. Going To California was nice!
Yeah he really kills Kashmir. Awesome rendition of a very hard song to play - even without the percussion attributes he added.
If you like that,,, you may like Kent Nishimora.... He will amaze you
@@rjb10101 wow my brain cant realize how he can play Bass Drums Guitar and Vocals with 2 hands lol. awesome
The best rendition of Led Zeppelin on acoustic guitar I have ever heard unbelievable. And you could hear the voice parts in there, too. That was so sweet.
I find it amazing how each person plays his interpretation of these guitars. Thanks gentlemen.
59 years fo playing guitar. When I heard this my eyeballs fell out. Beautiful!

Dude...your version of Kashmir around 13:00 is incredible. What a gift you have
Thank you for pointing that timestamp out. I bounced around the video a bit and would have prolly missed it.
isn't a weird tuning does he play it in standard?
It's just flat out nuts... killer at absolute worst. I wish I had 1/100 of that talent...OK, 1/1,000.
No no. This isnt his version of Kashmir. Marcin, a polish guitar prodigy blew the lid off of this here on youtube years ago. Look him up.
@@percyvolnar8010 Those are not exactly the same versions between the two men. But because he used that guitar you think he owns the song now.
No, that is the one thing it certainly is, his own version. That goes for both of them. I suspect what you meant to say is " it is a version of Marcin.s version" And maybe it is true, but we would need to ask him what inspired him, was it Marcin who inspired him, or was it the guitar, the original artist, or a combination of two or more of the three.
Best guitar store video I've watched.
They often refer to this playing as "a gift". It's more hard work, dedication to perfection, and love of music & instruments. Someone record this talented humble musician. His personality is icing on the cake.
Nathanial’s talent is breathtaking. Such an amazing musician.
just happened onto this video by luck and was pleasantly surprised. The dude playing Kashmir on the acoustic was phenomenal! Always great to hear someone playing a Zeppelin tune, good.
It feels like a privilege to be able to hear someone that good playing... Internet is amazing thing. Thank you for filming it. :)
Totally!! 🍻✌️
Thank you guys…I love music so much…and it’s so good to see a group like this play such great sounds…keep strumming
I love Rhett’s expression after Nathaniel finishes playing “In My Life”. That smile says, “Did you really just casually drop that on me like that?”. Great video, Rhett. Really enjoyed this one! 🥰
Much appreciation for Rhett’s ability to make this connection happen. Love his genuine care for all things guitar. And Nathaniel is just an other-worldly talent disguised as a normal bloke from Manchester. Unbelievable!
Indeed! And very generous of Rhett to give such un-edited air time to others on channel.
This is the truely lovely side of YT.
I would have never expected a B-bender to sound so natural in an acoustic. I love that little pedal thing he was playing. Very nice.
WA--WA!

Nathaniel, your rendition of Kashmir sends my soul soaring. You belong on the grandest stages of the world. Despite not being a country music enthusiast, your rendition of "In My Life" is nothing short of extraordinary. Thank you for your incredible talent. 🔥🔥🔥
This is one of the most profound guitar moments of my life. I have heard virtuosity and genius and a person is never really the same afterwards.
I couldn't help but literally applaud after that version of "In My Life," at Nathan, who's on my laptop in my living room. So dang good.
Ive rewatched that part about 30x now
I know. I've never heard anyone make an acoustic sound like a pedal steel guitar before.
Ha! I did the same thing!!!
Most white person comment ever but was an amazing performance

This guy is a monster player, been noticing his arrangements and chord melody's for a while...🤘😎
I so agree with you!
I remember writing him off as just another dude, then listened to him again hours later and fell in love.
That B-bender sounds amazing! Nathaniel's playing of In my Life and Kashmir made my jaw drop. Simply beautiful playing, what a treat to listen to. Thanks for posting this Rhett.
That Kashmir rendition was freakin awesome man. That's the shit I'm talking bout! Different tunings, mechanical and electrical aids keeping us all inspired! Just like the playing of others. We all contribute to the art and passion. An endless journey of learning, sharing and creating. Straight from the heart. Thanks for your inputs brother. Blessings!
Thanks guys, this was so fun to watch. You're all great players jeez.
Man-oh-man that guy's playing really shined brightly on that acoustic! He really has carved out a niche for himself on that instrument! It's amazing when you think of the kind of talented musicians that exist all over this world ...and you never know when or where you'll find them!!
"It's amazing when you think of the kind of talented musicians that exist all over this world ...and you never know when or where you'll find them!!" That's a hard fact I realized years ago. The really best musicians are unknown and have never had much exposure.
the last I heard anything similar to that, was as a kid and the player was late middle age hillbilly picker, he bent the strings around wildly. I to this day don't know how he did it without any trick devices. must have had fingers of stone, with feel of a baby.
@@marcos061059 Hey! In HISTORY, i agree completly. Today - THAT's the reason why i am HERE! To search LIVE, UNDERRATED, SURPRISING MEETINGS, UNARRANGED JAM's; RARE RECORDS!

Btw. Ben Lacy / Cashmere - live in Nashville
I cried when he played the Beatles. What a beautiful guitar and melody. Wow!!
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you all playing so beautifully together and really enjoying the time together too
I could sit there and listen to guys jamming like that for hours. My Dad would have loved to be there listening to them.
WOW!! Nathaniel is an amazing player!!!! That’s not enough to even touch the surface of describing his talent!!! I’ve been playing for around 45 years and have never been this blown away by another guitarist!!! Nathaniel, you made my day!!! Cheers!!!
Take a look at "Kashmir" from Ben Lacy - live in Nashville. Nathaniel plays on a level, far away. Ben - no words...(unreachable, should not be used, but you must TRY, TRY, TRY and TRY!)
Curious if you've had an opportunity to hear
Tommy Emmanuel,
Phil Keaggy,
Doyle Dykes,
Fingerstyle champion Steven King,
"Ben Lacey plays for phil" ?
When Nathaniel is playing by am constantly smiling and sometimes cracking up at just the sheer absurdity of his brilliant statements.
Even accomplished Guitar players are fascinated when a real "officianodo" takes to the strings!
My sainted mother was an accomplished Pianist in her youth. People would stop to listen when she sat down at the keyboard. She was a Chopin fan and, in my memories, I can still hear her playing.
Amazing Kashmir cover. I like the tapping percussion he weaved into the mix. Great timing.
Tapping isn't new, but there's not usually alotta melody. This guy's got 3 lines going. & percusion with a flawless melody thru out. Great show mate !

First of all I have never seen a B bender on an acoustic guitar, second, DAMN!! That guy is just amazing! Now I am off to search Nathaniel Murphy! How cool.
I think that was about the MOST fun I've ever had watching a few masters dink around, learn something new, play some vintage craft and better yet - share it with us lowly serfs who play guitar and admire the players. While we play guitar, these guys are guitar players and for those who don't know the difference, finding out would be a huge step upward in your library of understanding and appreciation of the art. That was most excellent. I could only imagine an entire afternoon of this dreamscape and will often reflect on this very moment as i humble myself again. Thank you fellas ! A heartfelt thanks !
So well said. This one really grabbed my undivided attention, and was a real treat to watch & listen. To me, this is truly what makes the world go ‘round. Tip of a the hat, to them.
A magical moment, for sure....Thanks for sharing this.
Really enjoyed listening to everyone play. Talent!!
I'm still gathering my jaw off of the floor. The work on the SG, and then just into outer space on that acoustic B bender. The man can jam! Some people get put off by great players... it's one in the morning and I want to wake the neighbours up!! That was super inspiring.
I feel EXACTLY the same! I suddenly just wanted to share this with everyone one I know RIGHT NOW! haha
Those people that don't like to hear the words , guy was a great guitar player.or girl, are those freaking jealous types I've dealt with my whole life and all i eevt wanted to do was my best and inspire someone else maybe and if I noticed someone on the same level talent wise as myself I would get real pleased because I knew that I could finally challenge myself to the fullest and see just how good I actually was. Loved it and had nothing but respect and love for other "naturals"

This was absolutely a blast to watch and damn fun. Everyone plays great and Nathaniel is a legit artist. Cheers!
Thanks, virtuoso guys, for letting us share your joy in great luthiers’ art. Especially the end, with the acoustic guitar you all loved. Me, too - We used to call them Hummingbirds. People like you (and Renaissance composers long before us), are why I “graduated” to the guitar, when time constraints made me put aside my fiddle, for lack of practice. At 73, my fingers are now too stiff to perform, but I still keep my old Silvertone in tune, and occasionally pull it out for a few chords, riffs, and memories.
(I’ve been watching a lotta Stochelo, and Rosenberg Trio, lately, just for some calm in the storm…)
Man what a treat, I have a huge smile, thank you for sharing the sublime playing!!!
Humble, Brilliant, and sheer joy to listen to...what a great combo,
