- This D16 helps you channel some D-28 vibe and saves some cash. Spruce top, rosewood back and sides, matte finish, Fishman electronics.
I like these guitars quite a bit and think they represent a good value for a US made guitar. Two thumbs up from me.

Warmth. Right from the first chord. I want me a Standard Series someday.. but they have one of these in Guitar Center and if I had the coin I would rescue it.
Great demo as always, Ian. Have you had the chance to play a D-16E Mahogany yet? Played both recently and couldn't decide which one I liked best. I think these make an excellent stage guitar
How does this compare tone-wise with an OM-21 or -28?
is that an ebony fretboard? Aren't they using richlight on these anymore?
They have a ebony fretboard
They are ebony, but for sustainability efforts, they are no longer only selecting black ebony sections of the tree for the fretboards.

The special 16 has a different rosette
what brace pattern?
Scalloped and forward shifted X brace. Same bracing as HD28
