    Played this in my house last night and the neigbors threw a brick through my window to hear it better.

    I tested a bunch of left handed Martins at our local music shop up here in Anchorage Alaska.
    I had the means, fortunately, to purchase any guitar I wanted. I tested a D-18, D-28, HD-28, D-35, D-45, and a D-28 modern Deluxe.
    After a day playing between each guitar, I chose the D-18 for the sound I heard out of that particular instrument.

    I traveled to Japan and came back with a 2022 D18. I have not picked up my other guitars very much since. I got it for a god price of $1775. Mint. If any one is headed that way.

    Man..... I have an HD-28, J-45, and a D-18. The one that makes me smile the most is the D-18. Something about its simplicity and crystal clear tone.

    That is the quintessential Martin sound. How a dread should sound

    This is one of the best sounding D18 I heard in RUclips. Sounds better that other guitars tested on that channel.

    I bought a D-28 recently, but that was mainly because of the fact that I wanted something very different from the J-45 I already had. I love the sound of my D-28, but I also played the D-18 and I think I actually preferred the sound of the 18.
    O man, I thought buying electrics was difficult. Buying acoustics is much harder and much more addictive.
    Glad you're back, Ian.

    • @ryancarlisle2931
      @ryancarlisle2931 2 года назад +2

      I agree about preferring the sound of the D-18. The D-18 inquires Mahogany where as the D-28 does not, the mahogany tends to provide a deeper resolution sound; I won't even consider a Martin unless it is Mahogany like the D-16gt or D18 etc., I won't consider an acoustic unless it's a Martin, period. haha. :-) A higher priced guitar is not always better. The D-28 felt and sounded somewhat bland to my ear compared to the D-18 in the past. Yes, one golden acoustic stands far and beyond from others compared to electrics. It's difficult to find the acoustic one requires when one knows what sound and tone they are going for. Super good to be particular and picky on your choice of acoustic. Cheers.

      @@ryancarlisle2931 I completely agree. I went and played all the martins one day and ended up getting a d-18. I mostly play bluegrass music and there’s no other guitar that even comes close to the tone of the d-18.

    I got my D-18 (built in 2021) a few months ago, and although it is a little too big for me (small woman ^^) I love it so much! 🥰 Every time I play it, it brings tears in my eyes, the sound is amazing! ❤❤❤

      Martin's seem to do that; the resonating deeper warmer sounds and tones. They can derive the sounds of all feelings. :-). You must be playing pretty stuff to derive tears, it happens to me as well when I play, or even singing; choke up sometimes. Music should do that to our hearts. This is lovely, thank you. Treat her well. :-) Change them strings often ;-). I recommend Elixir's Phosphor Bronze strings....:-) Keep the same gauge the guitar comes with. :-) Martin's are the true acoustic guitars out there, there is nothing else like them. I loved the Elixir strings on my Martin D-16 GT (Not to be confused with your D-18). :-) Take care.

      Ive been playing for forty two tears and in 2016 I finally purchased my first D18. It is the only guitar I will take on stage with me. All the others seem like poor imitations of what an acoustic should sound like.

    Excellent demo once again! I’m hesitating between a J45/J50 and a D18. The D18 sounds and feels great, but it lacks a bit of rock’n’roll attitude. The Gibsons look and sound great, but the build quality doesn’t seem to match Martin’s. Aaaargh, so hard! 😀

    • @mariodriessen9740
      @mariodriessen9740 2 года назад

      Are you Dutch by any chance?
      I own a J-45 and a D-28. I love both, but if I would lose every single guitar I have, the first guitar I’d buy would be a D-18.
      When I bought my J-45 I was really happy and I couldn’t find any flaws, but the new Martins take quality to another level. They both feel completely different as well. On paper the D-18, factory equipped with .013’s and a longer scale length off course, should be harder to play than the J-45 (shorter scale length and a set of .012/.053). But they both feel amazing. The best thing you can do is finding a store where they have a couple of both and then play them for a while. All of them.

    I have a 2018 d-18e.... This definitely sounds different somehow. Very smooth sounding. Is this just my ear, or did they make some changes for 2022?

    • @trevorkendrick7028
      @trevorkendrick7028 2 года назад

      I’m pretty sure they made changes to the bracing patterns in this years model that gives it the different tone. I remember reading that they changed back to the scalloped pattern, but I’m also not a Martin expert so I could be wrong here.
