I fortunately own an early 1968 D35, and it’s the one thing I’d run into a burning house for. My favourite thing about it aesthetically is the slightly rounded off headstock. If, for whatever reason I were able to place a custom order through Martin, the most important things I’d specify would be headstock shape and the neck carve from my 68, with the addition of a truss rod and herringbone trim
For all his wealth, fame and success, the fact that Eric is so genuinely interested in studying the details of the guitars tells you so much about him…a craftsman cherishes his tools (Pete Townshend being an honourable exception)!

It warms my heart to see Eric doing beautiful in life. He's enjoying those guitars here like any other man would. God, he has no idea how influential he has been in so many people's lives... I mean, he may imagine the magnitude of it but never know the whole of it. I didn't know that he played with two 100w amps with Cream and used the second only during solos! No wonder, people say they were *loud.* It's funny how he says that he longs to be remembered for that slight buzzy sound on acoustic that he makes, as if he hasn't done more than that. Also, after being a guitar player for about 65 years if he thinks that it's risky to deal with guitar action if you don't know what you're doing then imagine how vigilant we should be. He's the ideal indeed. Done so much and still behaves genuinely. Signs of the true greats. Thank you, Guitar Center and Eric Clapton!
Can't wait for the concert between Pittsburgh and Crossroads I spent that much for 6 tickets will be worth every penny to support Eric's Crossroads Antigua God bless 🙏
I have a custom made Martin OM -42 made from Madagascar Rose Wood. It’s a beautiful grain of wood with tonal qualities of Brazilian Rose Wood. The tone is amazing and gets better with age. The sound board is made from high elevation Alaskan Spruce , a desired wood accented with Abalone. Beautiful guitar.
#FancyPants #MartinD45 WoW!!! For #EricClapton Fans, the mainstay Martin 000-28EC comes in a Vintage Sun Burst finish that is reeeeeeally nice, compared to the natural antique finish. BTW Eric looked fantastic....He must be driving the heck out of his Ferrari's and having FUN. It would have been cool to reissue the #MTVUnplugged #Martin 000-42 that #EricClapton played on that legendary night in 1992.
I LOVE this video, thank you for posting!! Eric has long been my Number 1 and videos like this reaffirm it. I also still enjoy regularly watching his other Guitar Center videos on "Brownie", "Lucy" and his other Martin acoustics 🙂
So cool to hear that he didn’t even really know much about the different tone woods. Goes to show that actually playing and learning your instrument takes you way further than obsessing over Indian, Madagascar or Brazilian.
I was shocked. And I was even more shocked he didn't know any of the specs of the D-45 and 28 signature versions of his own guitar. This dude has played Martins for decades. He has a MTV Unplugged for christ sakes, yet he couldn't tell you 1 spec of the guitars he played. John Mayer on the other hand would obsess over every detail.
@@anthonysmithjr.7388 Absolutely. I was so excited at first and then listening to him, he has freaking dementia. I felt embarrassed for the gentleman to have to prod him along his own career with dates and models. Horrible. And you know what, he does not need a $12K D-45 gifted to him. Sad.
That sound you got at both the 28 and the 45 is solid, man. Love hearing the stories from Derek and the Dominoes times. Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs is a stellar thing. I guess you, like me, will also send off some love to Duane when you remember that album. Signed, J.
Long-time Guitar Center customer, Martin owner and Eric fan-I love all 3! So kool for Guitar Center to present Eric the best Martin there is, IMO. The D45 with its exotic woods and tone is perfect. Any other Martin more fancier than the D45 will just have extra abalone, bling, etc. There's a reason why Greg Lake, Neil Young, Dan Fogelberg, and many country artists chose the D45. I was at the first Crossroads Festival in 2004 in Dallas, Texas...Don't miss a Crossroads Festival if it comes near you!...Splendid video, Guitar Center! Thank you, Eric, for your time.
I think that way about the D-28 (anything fancier than a D-28 just has more bling). I prefer the dot markers instead of the block inlays, and in general prefer the simplicity of the D-28...it's just a preference, but the D-45 is too blingy for me.
@danielstoddart Makes good sense. Probably why Jimmy Page chose a D28. The thing about Martin, artists have to purchase their Martin. Martin does not have players endorse their guitars. However, they occasionally do give guitars as gifts. A few years ago, Chris Martin, owner & CEO, wanted a particular model and he wrote a check for it. I saw that in a Martin RUclips video.
@danielstoddart The woods are also different on a D45. Usually, D28s get the Indian Rosewood where D45s get the Brazilian Rosewood and the abalone. It's all about preference, really.
Yeah the Audio Is poor though but I got the same Impression Having said that as they say, with a new guitar, even ones of this standard, the worse it will ever sound is the first time you play it ! I think even more so with the top quality woods , your paying somewhat also for the way they will age , though there are no set rules of course, theres always an "emporers clothes " element as blind tests so often show but then come back and listern to that 45 in 4 or 5 years and then you'll start to hear the real difference The are meant to be keepers at that kind of price
The 28's sound was unimpressive. At this point, Eric's seen it all. He seems to have to conjure up some enthusiasm for instruments now. I'm 65 and been playing since I was 15. I find that I care less and less about the instrument and more about the players, technique and music. The instrument is just a tool and no matter what you give Eric it's going to sound good because he's good!
The audio quality on the video overall was pretty low. I wouldn’t judge the sound of the D-28 by that. I have an old D-28 and it still has the best tones of any of my other guitars, or any other guitar I’ve played.
@@timtibbitts1017 exact this is the point.... Martin's quality is good until '70,after is discontinue for all models. The Clapton' s original d28 sound good but this copy sound worst. The d45 sound lightly better but not as an old 45 not only for older wood but for quality of wood, quality of craftsman 's work and all building process. Only the price is similar😂
My grandfather has a 1946 D-18 and a 1966 D-35 that had to be sent back to Martin after taking a little damage to the body. Both sound absolutely beautiful but I prefer the sound of the D-35. He could make those things sing too! I believe they sound much better than any of the Martin guitars being produced today.

I didn't know that he played with two 100w amps with Cream and used the second only during solos! No wonder, people say they were *loud.*
It's funny how he says that he longs to be remembered for that slight buzzy sound on acoustic that he makes, as if he hasn't done more than that.
It would have been cool to reissue the #MTVUnplugged #Martin 000-42 that #EricClapton played on that legendary night in 1992.
it's good to see our forever legend mr. clapton is still great at blues......
Pittsburgh Sep 8, will be the first time to see the Great EC live!!
Eric has always been a big influence on my guitar playing!🤘
Thanks for sharing, Eric’s my favorite for many years. What a great guitar that must be.
We love the Clapton, we love the Martin's.
So good
"If music be the food of love? Play on." EC ❤🕊
My old man saw him in Ramsey UK mid sixties and was spellbound. Didn't even join his mates for a beer at the bar!
This was absolutely amazing video
Thank you for this
Clapton is a legend
I LOVE this video, thank you for posting!!
Eric has long been my Number 1 and videos like this reaffirm it.
I also still enjoy regularly watching his other Guitar Center videos on "Brownie", "Lucy" and his other Martin acoustics 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it - so did we!
@@anthonysmithjr.7388 totally
@@anthonysmithjr.7388 Absolutely. I was so excited at first and then listening to him, he has freaking dementia. I felt embarrassed for the gentleman to have to prod him along his own career with dates and models. Horrible. And you know what, he does not need a $12K D-45 gifted to him. Sad.
Eric's jean jacket has all those metal buttons on it.scratching those nice guitars
He looks great love his no bs attitude . Just chats and strums his very valuable toy
A great guitar👍 I wish some one would gift me a Martin👍🎸👏
That sound you got at both the 28 and the 45 is solid, man. Love hearing the stories from Derek and the Dominoes times. Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs is a stellar thing. I guess you, like me, will also send off some love to Duane when you remember that album.
Signed,
J.
Wow. He actually looks for the fret buzz.
GOAT.

Eric didn’t seem too thrilled with the first Martin lol. He looks great though, God Bless Eric a true legend ❤ 🎶
Too much bass response.
The D45 sounds much more ballanced.
But I' m a mahagony guy anyway.
Use to play a Martin 000-18 and a D-18 GE.
Yeah the Audio Is poor though but I got the same Impression
Having said that as they say, with a new guitar, even ones of this standard, the worse it will ever sound is the first time you play it !
Like a fine wine... he just gets better with age!
That was enjoyable. Could listen to Clapton talk music and guitars all day
It's probably the nicest acoustic I've ever seen. Imagine getting given that for free!
Eric has nothing to prove please , its a pleasure just to watch him and listen to him and his comments
That guy with the guitar seems to know what he's doing. Sounds pretty damn good.😁
so guttered I won't be able to go the crossroads show this year,,,, seriously hope Eric does another one
seriously guitar center? Yall couldnt have set up a few decent mics for this?
It’s sound horrid
legendary artist. poop mic..
Spoiled brat
Right😂
Guitar center sucks for everything
The 28's sound was unimpressive. At this point, Eric's seen it all. He seems to have to conjure up some enthusiasm for instruments now. I'm 65 and been playing since I was 15. I find that I care less and less about the instrument and more about the players, technique and music. The instrument is just a tool and no matter what you give Eric it's going to sound good because he's good!
The audio quality on the video overall was pretty low. I wouldn’t judge the sound of the D-28 by that. I have an old D-28 and it still has the best tones of any of my other guitars, or any other guitar I’ve played.
He's God😂
I thought I was the only one to hear all that string buzz when he was playing... sounded like a $50 China guitar.
Clapton foi are Show ...
Impressionante e Sensacional....😮😮😮😮🙏🙏🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷😊😊
