Great overview - helpful
Thanks for watching Tim! Happy you enjoyed the video! Stirling is amazing soap, my favorite to this day. Have a great week!
Hey my friend, it's been too long! Great video! :)
Hey Marcus! Thanks so much! Appreciate you man. I took a short break from my socials to focus on a few things. But I plan on making more content soon. All is well :)! And hoping the same for you guys!
@@DoubleAshaves Let's have a call soon and catch up! :)
Man you did that ice shave like a boss!! I love menthol lol I e got to try that soap. I usually shave with cold water but I’ve never thought about using ice water. Imma give it a try.
Thanks for watching Eric. Thanks for the kind words! I would say if you love menthol, definitely give this a go. It’s a lot of fun! I haven’t tried this since I made this video, so I’m over due for another round. Have a good week.
Just Purchased Glastonbury, Varen, Port-au-Prince, Coniferous and Hipster…What soap base do they use?
Great choices robert! Glad to hear you got some Stirling soaps! Coniferous is one of my all time favorites that they have done! Haven’t smelled the others. Stirling soaps use a tallow base for their soap. And I think they a have a few made with sheep tallow. Great soap base! Enjoy!
Dollar tree also sells shave soap pucks and shaving brushes. I picked up a brush but not the puck. I really wanna try their razor but with better blades though. Good video man.
Thanks for watching Eric. Thanks for the heads up, I did not know dollar tree sold their own pucks and brushes! Very neat. I tried this razor with a feather and it worked pretty well. Obviously not a fantastic shave but definitely serviceable. Thanks for the kind words and hope you have a great week!
Just received My sample pack today…WOW every scent is simply Amazing! Carpathia and Boonana are right up My alley. Carmilla is apparently discontinued and I will keep it on radar
Thanks for watching robert! Very happy to hear you enjoy southern witchcrafts! Their dark scents are just amazing, they are one of my favorite artisans out there. I just smelled boonana recently and agree it’s great! Happy shaving my friend! Enjoy!
As a new wet shaver after having a large beard for many years this is lather goals. I thought i was getting pretty good lather but man after watching your tutorial I was wrong lol thank you for the video
Thanks for watching man! I’ll be honest and say that a shave lather doesn’t have to be this perfect to get a good shave. I just always enjoyed experimenting with my shave soap and getting the most out of what it can generate. I would say as long as you’re using enough soap, it should perform well.
How would you describe the difference with stirling sandalwood and vanilla sandalwood? And how the scent compares with proraso, tobs, or AoS sandalwood?
Thanks so much for watching. I’ve actually never tried Stirling sandalwood, but plan to at some point. Their samples are pretty cheap and a good size if you wanna snag one. Have a great week!
I'd love to see a stirling eggnog scent
Thanks for watching John! Dude, that would be awesome. Good call. I know PAA has a good one called “space nog”. But a Stirling one would be great. Have a good weekend!
I found funny the obvious tongue in cheek scent description and how people found it off putting. It's one of my favourites soaps and sad to hear it will be gone, but given the amount of soaps already in the den, don't think I would ever get to finish even this one. R41 is my favorite for sure and have used it on a daily basis for a while
Thanks so much for watching! Totally agree, this is actually one of my favorite scents. I can see how it can be polarizing, but man I just really love the creative direction Stirling took with this one. Killer fall scent. You’re a brave man for using r41 daily. I like to use mine after I need to mow down a lot of growth. Have a good weekend!
Please shave your head 😢
Thanks for watching man! I like my hair too much to get rid of it. Maybe one day? But not anytime soon. Hope you have a great week ahead.
I also love Samhain from them. To me, it's the best Halloween season scent.
Thanks for watching Eric! Yeah, Samhain is a wonderful scent. Happy you enjoy it! I also love hallows from barrister and Mann. That’s another great Halloween scent if you haven’t smelled it. Have a great weekend.
Sir… your videos are so good. So genuine and authentic. I’m excited for me shave later today because of YOU - you remind me how ritualistic and special shaving is. Thank you so very much. Looking forward to the next video already, and have a great weekend my friend.
Hi Kaden! Wow, thank you so much for your very kind words! That really means a lot, and encourages me to continue making content. Very much appreciate that and I’m happy you are enjoying my videos! Keep on shaving on brother! This is a wonderful hobby indeed. Hope you have a great weekend as well!
Your mild razor (VdH) ESPECIALLY with Feather blade, makes a good pairing. Known sharp blade in mild razor!!
Thanks so much for watching! Agreed! Mild razors with a sharp blade is a solid way to go. I really enjoy using feathers in my Merkur 34c or Edwin jagger de -89. Works well for me if I don’t have too much growth. Hope all is well and enjoy your week!
Not to sound like I'm trying to get brownie Points, But I have love Van Der Hagen it was the 1st soap and brush I brought at Walgreens and still have that set, I have the Razors both of them and shave sets, I really don't why people cut them down, There are good and not all us are the same, each of us have a different skin tone so what work go for one may not work for others, and the Razor is 17.99 at Walmarts, awesome shave as always though have a good weekend
Hey Shannon, thanks so much for watching! Always appreciate your support and feedback. Happy to hear you started out with Van der hagen products. I also had the soap and I agree it was great. Smelled awesome too. And you’re right, what gear works for one may not be suitable for another person. That’s the beauty of wetshaving is we all have different skin and preferences. I enjoy this razor even though it’s a bit mild for me nowadays. You have a great weekend as well!
Stirling is awesome. I started with proraso green and it smelled so good to me I nver wanted to branch out. Much better shave with this. This seems less processed and more natural too. I have ten samples. Can't wait to try pumpkin spice, hot apple cider and black cherry lol.
@@bluetoast8584 thanks so much for watching! Very happy to hear you’re been enjoying Stirling. They’ve always been my top soap. Definitely natural, and some of their soaps (like bay rum and coniferous) are scented with all essential oils which is awesome too. Nice choices, especially hot apple cider. I’ve been using the bath soap and it is CRAZY good. One of their best. Keep on shaving on brother and have a good week.
I am also a returnee to DE Safety shaving, at the age of 81! Got the SAD syndrome & have spent my daughters inheritance on all things shaving. However, using a soap (I have both cream & soap) it seems to take forever to get a good bowl lather. In your case the soap was showing, stuck to the bowl for most of this video. And, ok we all all a bit nerdy with shaving, but over 10 minutes to make a lather! I have other things to do with my life. What about using the brush direct in the soap dish, then transfer to the bowl? I agree about contamination, but what do you think?
Thanks so much for watching! I’m happy to hear you made the return to traditional wet shaving! It’s truly a wonderful hobby with a great community of people. Yeah, using a soap can take longer. But can be done quickly if you add more lots of water at the start instead of what I did which was slowly add water. I just did that for educational purposes so people can see how the process works. It’s also more aimed at hobbyist who enjoy spending time shaving. But yes this method wouldn’t be that efficient if you’re running late to work. But like I said, if you start with a really wet brush instead of a damp one like I did, you will save time. I like to give people soap samples from my tubs, which is a big reason I like to scoop. Also adding water to the tub can reduce the soaps scent over time.
Great shave, Aaron. Never tried Jordans, but it’s on my list now. Thank you. This was the easiest August in Southeast PA. I can remember and I’ve been living here over 60 years. September is beautiful so far…
Hi Jack. Thanks so much for watching! I appreciate the support and kind words. I was very pleased with my shave with Jordan’s, it’s great soap. Very happy with how September is turning out in our area. I was at the mushroom festival in Kennett yesterday and it was gorgeous. Hope you have a great weekend!
Hey Aaron super shave worked really well for you! Likewise far to much soap to much need to stop buying over and over again but extremely difficult 😂 you enjoy your Sunday all the best to you whatever your plans are thanks again 🙂🙌
Thanks so much for watching Michael! I appreciate the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the video. I hear you on that one. When a good looking soap drops it’s tough not to pull the trigger. But now I’m just appreciating what I have and not focusing on what I don’t have. Hope you enjoy your Sunday as well! Stay cool 😎!
Hi. Nice lather. I have never seen olive oil in any shave soap but why not. Like you're saying probably good for your skin. Have a good Friday
@@borbelyhaz321 thanks so much for watching as well as your continued support man. Yeah, funny you don’t see olive oil much. Another commenter said olive oil breaks down soap if you’re inexperienced in soap making. So I guess Jordan’s really knows that they’re doing. Great soap. You have a good weekend as well!
I’m doing a Jordan’s review today or tomorrow, nice Shave bro, stay safe!
@@gentbehindascent hey Josh, thanks so much for watching bro. Appreciate the kind words. Looking forward to your Jordan’s video! You have a good weekend!
Great to see you again Aaron, I couldn't do just weekly shave let alone longer, the beard already annoys me after 2 days and would prefer to shave every day except I don't quite get enough growth. I consider my largish "collection" of soaps (and other gear) part of my "hobby" so don't consider it a waste as such, a man needs a hobby, I'm only restricted by the tightening of our budget which has slowed my hobby down to a trickle. "Blueberry Muffin" sounds great for a fall & kitchen shave, olive oil can be a lather killer unless the Artisan knows how to use it properly. Take care brother👌🤠👌
@@unclelshaves hello Lawrie! Thank you kindly for tuning in, as well as your kind words and feedback. Always appreciate you. I hear you. I know a lot of people say their beard gets scratchy too. Mine doesn’t for some reason, but I like looking professional (and not like a mountain man), so that’ll be my motivation to shave more often. Totally agree about the hobby aspect. You’re so right, men love their hobbies and need one for a healthy mindset in my opinion. As much as I want to keep supporting artisans with my dollar, like yourself my collection has slowed very much. So I appreciate Jordan’s for helping me out with content. Seems like he knows how to use olive oil properly 😎! Have a great weekend my friend.
Hey Aaron, We will never use up all of our soap, no matter how much we try! I really like Jordan’s soap. I have Apple Pie and Lemon. Both wonderful. Halfway through my epic journey. Be home soon. Best regards, Glenn
@@theluxuryshavinghobbyist hey Glenn, thanks so much for tuning in my friend! Yep, ain’t that the truth. We all have a lifetime and a half supply of soap. But it makes us happy, so who cares! You’re not kidding, Jordan’s is great stuff. I’ll have to watch your video on it soon. Really pleased with his soap. Happy to see you’re having a great time and hanging with Tobin. Can’t wait to hear more! Looks like a wonderful trip. You guys enjoy the weekend!
Thank you for introducing Jordan's to your audience! I hadn't heard of them, but you know I like a good vegan soap. I'll have to give them a try at some point 👍 Glad it's starting to turn Fall where you are; tomorrow it's going to be 111 here in Mesa. Have a good rest of your week!
@@DesertShaveDen hey Joseph, thanks so much for watching and the kind words man! Of course, it’s nice giving the little guys some attention. Especially when it’s an artisan I’ve had great interactions with. Happy to support them. Good luck with that Arizona heat 😎. You have a great week as well!

@@garys_shave hey Gary! Thanks so much for watching and your kind words! I appreciate that a lot 🔥😎! Cheers right back to you. Enjoy your weekend!
Why don’t you shave 🪒 against the grain Aaron? If you’re not gonna shave for a week or two might as well! 🤷
@@abdulthomas6821 thanks for watching Abdul! Haha yeah I’m not sure. I fall into weird shave habits sometimes. My current one seems to be to clear all the hair with one pass. But like you said, it’s not very efficient unless you’re using a super aggressive razor. But the more time shaving, the better. So i need to start getting back to my usual with and against pass routine. Have a great weekend!
Great shave Aaron. This does look like a good Fall scent. Fall is nice in Pennsylvania. Looking forward to the change of season. Have a great weekend. Take care.
@@leeprice9649 hi Lee! Thanks so much for watching, I always appreciate your time and continued support on my content. Fall is indeed nice in PA! Leaves just started to change. Nice weather ahead! You have a great weekend too and stay safe!
The only "problem" with your videos, is that it's not clear which soap is good and which is not, because all the lathers you build are amazing!!! 😍🤩😍 So much patience when hydrating it 👌👍 And not a single flake. This is real shave content for me. I could sent you some samples from Greek Artisan soaps to try but you are in the US😢😢
@@T-R.e.x thanks so much for watching my friend! Always appreciate your support and feedback. As well as the kind words. I’m glad we both take our lathers seriously, and that you appreciate the lather building process. 😎! This Jordan’s soap is great stuff. Really impressed with it and I’m happy to do my part to put him on the map. Thanks so much for the offer to try the Greek soaps! Yes, I’m in the states :(. But I’m sure at some point I will try one out. I’m happy you are enjoying my videos! Hope you have a good weekend!

Great video 👍
@@ChadShaves Hi Chad, thanks so much for watching! I’m very happy to hear you enjoyed the video! Hope all is well over there! Have a good weekend.
You’ll never be able to use up all of your soap. I was only doing 15 brush swirls that makes more than enough soap for several passes, but now I do 20. I’ll never be able to use all the soap I’ve purchased. Have you tried the Timeless Aluminum Slant razor? Just got mine today. It’s wonderful.
I do at least 100 swirls 😅
Great shave Aaron. Hadn’t heard of Jordans. They picked the right guy to review their soap. First Van der Hagen I’ve seen in use. Fall is in the air in Charlotte as well. Summer has been tough. Until the next episode!
@@jamesagnew6512 thanks for watching James! Yeah good point. I also like using a bunch of soap since I have so much of it. I’ve also found that a large amount of soap is the secret to a great lather. I think too many folks under load the brush to save soap, and as a result they aren’t getting the best lather out of their soap. I haven’t tried that timeless but I’ll check it out. Glad you’re enjoying it, thanks for putting it on my radar. Have a great weekend!
@@T-R.e.x me too man, last time I did a tub load I did like 70 swirls lol. I prefer how my lathers turn out when I use large amounts of soap.
@@autumn1231 hey Doug, thanks so much for watching my friend! Always appreciate you stopping by. Thank you! Jordan’s is great soap. I’m very happy with it. Great soap base and fun scents. Happy to support him. The Van der hagen is so mild compared to what I’m used to, but I got a comfortable shave with it. Summer in PA was brutal as well. Glad it’s over with. Hope you have a great weekend.
How much water should be on my face when I apply this lather to my face? How many times should I add water droplets during Lathering?
Thanks for watching. I would say a normal amount of water on the face would be good. Like if you put your hands under the faucet and got your face wet before lathering. Then wet your face again at the start of the second pass and same with third. The more water the better. I wouldn’t apply my lather to a dry face. Although it could probably work, I still wouldn’t be comfortable doing it.
@@DoubleAshaves As long as the Lather maintains a yogurt-like texture without air bubbles, the more water the better, right?
@@yc-ju9us yeah exactly 👌👌
@@DoubleAshaves Thank you!
Great shave and great video. That lather was beautiful man. That's the face lather I've been trying to achieve.
Hi Mike, thanks so much for watching! I appreciate the kind and encouraging words. Nowadays I use a pretty decent amount of soap, which seems to me to be the biggest factor in getting a good lather. Lots of soap and slow water additions. Hope you have a great weekend!
@DoubleAshaves your welcome, and I'll have to try that one of these time. And I hope you have a good weekend as well.
😮 How did I lose that??? With this method you use, you skip the big air bubbles phase. It's insane how much density AND volume does you lather have, even with a small amount of soap. Your technique is really up there. Congratulations 👏🎉 PS One small advice if I'm allowed. Use a black bowl next time so the lather will be more distinct 👍👌
Thanks so much for watching my friend! Always appreciate you stopping by! I’m happy you enjoy my method! Yeah, I think the reason I skipped the air bubbles phase is because I started with very little water in the brush. Adding small amounts of water slowly is provides me the best results. Black bowl is a great idea! Thanks for that!! Hope all is well and have a great weekend!
@@DoubleAshaves yeah! I mean something like this (ceramic) ruclips.net/video/CxuInjvtckY/видео.htmlsi=6QnTjdHMbeVEQCzp
M&M soap is really top notch. Love the Nantahala
@@slippyg thanks for watching! Yeah, m&m is easily one of my top artisans. Love what they do. Have heard good things about nantahala. Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll pick up a sample soon. Have a great week.
Nice video and shave DoubleA ! Can't go wrong with PAA, one of my favourite brand 😊
Thanks so much for watching!! Appreciate that! I’m happy you enjoyed the video! Totally agree about PAA. They definitely make our hobby much more fun and interesting with all of their creations. Hope you have a great weekend!
Nice shave Aaron, single pass buffing enthusiast here.
Thank you for watching brother! This was quite the satisfying shave. Have a good weekend!
@@DoubleAshaves thanks, you too
The Peter’s Method is the Best! Rendered my bowl USELESS🤷🏼♂️🤣 I prefer it and like that, the energy of the brush is spent on the face versus in a bowl. Congrats on 1000.
Thanks so much for watching! Appreciate the kind words! Yeah, I did really have fun with Peter’s method here. It is very satisfying. I think it’s fun to switch things up from my usual bowl lathering. I can see why people prefer this method. I’ve never been a fan of adding water to soap tubs which is why I’m still on team bowl lather. I also like sending people soap samples. Just personal preference, but still definitely gonna be doing this method on my kill tubs. Hope you have a great weekend.
Awesome Shave as always Aaron Congrats on the subs, Stirling's red delicious would make me think of Red Licorice Have a great weekend
Hi Shannon, thanks so much for watching and commenting. Appreciate the kind words! Yeah, red delicious is a very sweet scent. To me it smells like a fruity kids shampoo. It’s an uplifting scent. Just not my favorite. I think their “hot apple cider” scent replaced it which I enjoy much more. Hope you have a great weekend.
Congrats on 1000 subs! I’ve considered picking up a Muhle R41 for a few years. I may get one soon. Looks like a very efficient razor🪒. Nice face lather. After watching you I definitely will try more water. Sterling and PAA soaps seem to like the water.
Thanks so much for watching! I appreciate that a lot! I would say if you’re used to aggressive razors, or even mid aggressive, the r41 is definitely worth a try. You can get just the head from maggards if you want to save some money. My suggestion for a good lather is lots of soap with slow water additions. My observation from watching videos over the years is that most people don’t use enough soap. But most lathers would work fine, this is just how I prefer mine. Hope you have a great weekend.
Hi Aaron, did you ever consider growing a goatee with mustache or just the mustache? You have the beard growth for it :) Will you grow one and see how it looks and then shave it?
Hi Chris, thanks so much for watching! I think it could be interesting for me to give a go at some point. I always preferred the look of myself clean shaven, but might switch things up in the future if the mood strikes. Thanks for the encouragement!! I think that could make for a fun video. Anyway, hope you have a great weekend!
man I see some guys kill tubs really quick meanwhile mine never seem to end... I want them to end so I can buy other soaps haha
@@seanstapelfeld Thanks for watching Sean! Yeah I hear you. That’s why lately I’ve been going the soap sample route instead of buying a whole tub that I know I’ll never get through. Most artisan soap makers (and maggard razors) luckily offer all their stuff in sample size. It’s helpful if you’re like me, constantly wanting to try out new scents. Hope you have a great rest of your week!
@@DoubleAshaves Thank you for that awesome idea! I will do this, probably suits me better because I am like you. Hunting new scents hehe
Congrats on the big milestone, Aaron! 🎉 💈 You deserve it 👍
Hey Joseph, thanks so much for that!! I appreciate it very much. Thanks for tuning in man. Looking forward to watching your video. Have a great rest of your week!
Congratulations Aaron! Cavendish is a classic for sure! Still have my 2011 Muhle R41 (I call Jaws for a reason). Take care brother!
Thanks so much tuning in Carlitos! Appreciate the kind words man! Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of people here mention that cavendish was their first PAA purchase, and even first shave soap in general. It’s a classic for sure, you can’t go wrong. That’s awesome to hear you’ve been in the hobby since back then. I would’ve loved to be around in those days. Crazy how big the market has gotten. You have a great rest of your week!
I will say i completely agree with your method when i first started i always wanted to go fast but then id end up with a terrible lather but once i started going slow it started getting good lathers
Thanks so much for watching! I’m happy to hear you have the same thoughts on it. Yeah, I figure if this is my hobby and my “me time”, I might as well have fun with it and take my time. I think enjoyment is way more important than speed. Happy shaves my friend and hope you have a great week!
Congrats on 1k subscribers! 🎉. Have a great day.
Thanks very much Mike! I appreciate that and your support on my videos. You have a great day as well!
Hi Aaron super 1 pass shave R41 is brilliant for me also normally a 1 pass for me does the job.Cavendish is really good as well not used mine for long time now hiding away with all my other soaps and creams in the den 😂 think a might now use it in my next shave.the Wilkinson sword blade is a good 1 also I use them often agree with my skin pretty well.have a great week 🙌🙂
Thanks so much for watching Michael! Happy to hear you also enjoy using the muhle r41. It’s truly a great razor. Yeah I can see how cavendish can get buried in the den since so many new soaps have been released since then. Mine got really buried too. But I love busting out the classics! You’re not kidding those Wilkinson swords are amazing. I think they are my new favorite blade. You have a great week as well!
Congratulations 🥳 great video 👍
Thanks so much Chad! I appreciate that! Very happy you enjoyed the video! Take care man!
Aaron, for your 2+ week growth you should consider the Henson AL-13 Medium (++) version. It is so efficient and so smooth especially with the Wilkinson Sword ⚔️ blade. If you try that combo, you should probably thank me after! 😂
Thanks so much for watching Abdul! I appreciate the recommendation. I’ve heard a lot of great things about Henson lately. I gotta look into that. Man you’re not kidding about the Wilkinson Sword blades. They are ridiculously good, I love shaving with them. Might be my new favorite blade. Thanks again for stopping by and hope you have a great rest of your week!
