    Hey Aaron, back from vacation. Lot of work but it's a labor of love. We went to Jacksonville Beach, FL. It was surprisingly nice. Great shave and top tier lather as always.That fat handle intimidates my stubby paws. I took a can of shave foam to make life easier and it's amazing how quickly it dries out making the blade tug on your face. OK my man, have a great day/week/life.

      Hi Doug! I always appreciate your time and support on my content! It really means a lot that you enjoy the videos man! Very happy to hear you had a nice time down in Jacksonville Beach! Never been there, but I’m sure it’s a lot of fun. I’m blown away by this Murphy and McNeil soap base and lather richness. It’s really great stuff. Not sure why I like the fat handles so much, but I guess I feel like the weight of it aids in the shave/pressure application. You’re a brave man by busting out the foam. Thank you for letting me know it went, so that I don’t have to do it myself 😂. You have a great week as well my friend, always appreciate your kind words.

    I have GTB in Silk Tallow formula, excellent performance and very dense lather.
    When you open the tub, powerful gunpowder hits you on the face.
    The only minor is that the soap seems very little, not 4oz.

      @DoubleAshaves  Год назад

      Thanks so much for watching man! Always appreciate you stopping by! I’m glad to hear you got the GTB in silk tallow. You know, I’ve been wondering how that soap base is. I only have the old formula. Sounds like one I gotta try out, thanks for the recommendation. Yeah, the gunpowder note is a dominant one, I agree. But I enjoy that. I think it’s a really well blended barbershop scent, and actually does a good job of smelling like an old western barber. I love that stuff. Hope you have a great weekend!

      @@DoubleAshavesMy pleasure !
      It's a totally different soap, it has nothing to do with the old formula, it is more rich.
      The loading and lathering is different too; You must load with dripping wet brush for 40 seconds, then add tons of water, this beast can hold huge amounts. I'm telling you I was impressed.

      @@T-R.e.x Dang man!! Thanks for the heads up on the silk tallow base! As a big Chiseled Face fan, that sounds like something I gotta give a whirl. Really glad you used that base, cause I don't think I've seen really anyone use it in a video. I guess everyone is using all the newest stuff and forgetting about Chiseled Face :(. That scent "loyal" he has sounds awesome. That would be the one I get when I try out the silk tallow formula. Thanks again for your recommendation my friend!

    Interesting preferences from your better half! My wife tends to enjoy the old fashioned manly cologne type scents and Barbershops, luckily that matches some of my preferences. Nothing wrong with some brush diversification and like you said Badgers (or even Boars) might suit your lathering style better than soft synthetics, have tried any synthetic G4 or other G series brushes?

    • @DoubleAshaves
      @DoubleAshaves  Год назад +1

      Hello Lawrie! I always appreciate your feedback and continued support, my friend! Thanks so much for watching. Yeah, my fiancée's preferences are definitely on the unusual side. But like you said, luckily her preferences match mine, as I gravitate toward more unusual type scents (besides midnight stag, can't stand that stuff LOL). Glad she doesn't like only florals and stuff like that. Would hate to be stuck having to wear those all the time. Awesome that your wife likes the barbershops! Hard to go wrong with any of them, they are all amazing in my opinion. There's a reason every artisan makes their own version. I enjoyed this badger brush a lot, and am now thinking the badgers may suit my lathering style a bit better. Haven't tried those, but will look into that G4 stuff. Thanks for the recommendation, and enjoy the weekend!

      @@DoubleAshaves BTW when a synthetic knot is wet it always has a "hole-out" wet look as they hold water between the fibers making them stick together. Whereas animal hairs hold water on and in the hairs, so a different "wet" experience.🤔

      @@unclelshaves Thanks Lawrie, yeah that's a good point. I guess that's just normal for synthetics. Mine all still perform great, so I guess I can't complain too much :). Thanks again for the tips, my friend!

    Great list of fine soaps, Aaron. I find CF soaps have superlative tallow for slickness, hence comfort. I'll have to check out that Maggard razor head. If I may ask, what part of USA did you grow up in? As a Linguistics grad I'm always fascinated by accents. Cheers! 🇨🇦

      Thanks so much for watching Adrian! I appreciate your kind words, and continued support! Yeah, CF is great soap. I wish I saw more people using it nowadays. Everyone moves on to the newer stuff and forgets about the older guys like CF. It's a shame. Glad you're also a fan! I wasn't expecting much out of a 10 dollar razor head, but boy does it shave well. Price really is meaningless to me in this hobby. If it works for me, I stick to it. I lived in Connecticut until I was ten, and then ever since I've been living in Southeast Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. Hope you have a great weekend!

      @@DoubleAshaves Good day, Aaron. The Maggard head reminds me a bit of Yaqi Mellon, a copy of an American razor from the 1930's, if not mistaken. Thanks for sharing your linguistic history. Years ago we put together a tape recording of sorts with over 50 American accents. One would record over it and it would approximate provenance. I'm from Toronto but it maintained I was from new England states. Close enough in the grand scheme of north America. Those were the days of knowledge for knowledge sake. Now it's all about pragmatism. Thank goodness for the shaving hobby world. Be well and all the best to you and yours. Cheers! 🇨🇦

    Yo, enjoying your videos. Any chance you could do a bowl lathering tutorial (ideally with Stirling soaps) with regards to soap/water amount? Your lathers look insane, especially on the thumbnails of some of your other videos, although ironically some of your best looking lathers are from artisans other than Stirling.

    • @DoubleAshaves
      @DoubleAshaves  Год назад +1

      Hi Shaun, thanks so much for watching! I’m very glad to hear you’re enjoying the content! Hearing that always encourages me to continue making more videos. Yeah, I’ve thought about doing a lathering tutorial. At some point soon I probably will do a video on it. Thanks for the recommendation. Stirling
      Produces great lather, but I’ve noticed other artisans have soaps that “explode” in the bowl much more. I guess it all depends on the soap ingredients. In the meantime, I will reply to you again soon here with a brief summary of my lathering technique. Hope you have a great weekend!

    • @shaunhutchinson4707
      @shaunhutchinson4707 Год назад +1

      @@DoubleAshaves I appreciate that, that would be awesome. It's not so much volume im worried/struggling with, its more so the slickness. Like, once I get it so it has a nice sheen in the bowl and on the brush, it starts drying on my face after like 10 seconds. Next attempt I get it to that same sheen stage, and then add a bit more water and work it a bit more just to make sure, same issue. Same issue whether I use little or a lot of soap in the bowl, sometimes if I work the brush too hard too quick, it becomes too airy, thin and foamy and no matter how much working you do, you can't bring back any sort of thick dense consistency.
      I notice most people on RUclips load from the tub, but I would really like to avoid that as I shave every day and might not give it enough time to dry out thoroughly and could spoil the puck since I tend to use the same soap for weeks at a time.
      I mentioned Stirling as that's one of the more available brands over in the UK, and scents like Executive Man is what made me enjoy shaving again and the scent is what really makes it enjoyable for me, and while getting soap from America isn't a problem, getting the matching aftershave splash is due to the alcohol.

    • @DoubleAshaves
      @DoubleAshaves  Год назад

      Hey Shaun. Since it may be a bit before I can do my video, I’ll give you a quick rundown of my lathering technique.
      I usually scoop out a decent amount of soap (about the size of an American quarter coin) and mash it into the bottom of the bowl. Wet your brush, and then squeeze out all the water from it so it’s just damp. Start making swirls over the soap with your brush and work the lather. Every fifteen or so seconds, take a small amount of water in your palm and add it to the lather in the bowl. Keep doing this and working the lather until it gets fluffy and has a nice sheen to it. It should have the consistency of canned barbasol cream with a hydrated sheen to it. Hope this helps. If you try it, let me know how it goes.

    • @DoubleAshaves
      @DoubleAshaves  Год назад

      @@shaunhutchinson4707 hey Shaun, funny enough I replied to you with my lathering technique right as you replied to me. I wonder if your issue could be that you are over hydrating your lather, I wonder?
