Great tutorial! I’m a newbie to wet shaving and I’ve been using an old brush, coffee cup and tube of Cremo shaving cream. I just received a Rockwell 6C for Christmas and I ordered some soap, a bowl and new brush. I look forward to trying this technique and perfecting my shaves!💈🪒🤝

With this method you use, you skip the big air bubbles phase.
It's insane how much density AND volume does you lather have, even with a small amount of soap.
Your technique is really up there.

PS One small advice if I'm allowed. Use a black bowl next time so the lather will be more distinct 👍👌

Great tutorial Aaron. Pretty much what I do. I also use unscented Cube 2.0 to load the brush in the bowl I melted the Cube in, then take the brush to a different bowl where I have small amount of scented soap pressed in. This way I use 70-80% of CK6 glycerin soap (Cube 2.0) and 20% of Artisan soap. Scent strengths is about the same, but the cost is a lot less. 8oz of Cube 2.0 soap is $10 and it lasts forever, almost like triple milled soap. Since I shave both head and face daily, this is the most economical way to still enjoy quality soaps and scents without using cheapest mass-produced stuff out there. This way I can get 10-15 shaves out of a 1/4oz sample. Even though the Cube is a pre-shave soap, the lather is identical to CK6 soaps from PAA at 25% cost.

Not sure if you ever got "keepsake fruitcake" from PAA, but I think he puts pieces of the cube into that soap (so it looks like an actual fruitcake). @@DoubleAshaves 95% of all my soaps are samples (about 190 of them) so I make them last by adding unscented soaps that are affordable. Besides the Cubes, I also bought eight unscented Murphy 5.5oz tubs for $8 each on crazy sale last summer. It would cost a fortune for me to own large tub of all my samples. I live minimalistic life on the road in a tiny RV. I get to enjoy most artisan soaps without large shave den.
I will say i completely agree with your method when i first started i always wanted to go fast but then id end up with a terrible lather but once i started going slow it started getting good lathers

Great tutorial, Aaron. I'm still a beginner. My main problem is getting all the soap dissolved . I always have 3-4 clumps that end up being pushed around the bowl. Lol

Thank you Aaron for demonstrating your lathering technique, awesome commentary, looks very similar to the one I normally use for soft soaps except I do measure my soap and water quantities, even though I measure my water I keep adding slowly until I see the lather structure I like. I used to use about half a teaspoon but I have cut my soap portions back a bit lately. Another thing I have been doing lately with dry out soap is to massage wet fingers over the soap in the bowl, this also helps stick the soap down. Have an awesome Christmas 🤟🎅🤟

Awesome tutorial, Aaron! I like the way that you put the soap in the center of the bowl mostly...it makes sense to me because a lot of the brush lathering can focus over the center region. I usually spend too much time trying to spread the soap all over the buttom when I do it, so I'm gonnna try your method tomorrow when I shave! That lather you patiently created looked like yogurt'y, luscious goodness and I bet it was slick and cushion'y to the max🤘 Thanks for sharing your method! Take care bro🤙

I know you also like aggressive blades ( which I also like ) , currently I'm using the bolzano superinox blades and I must say that I'm really in love with them. Nice tutorial. I've had great results with this method --
-- Spread pea-sized amount of soap or triple milled soaps in bottom third of a cheap plastic, barely textured salsa bowl. (Hemispheric bowls seem to work more consistently.)
-- Using a barely damp 26-28mm synthetic brush (the larger the knot the better), swirl brush until light paste forms
-- Lean base of brush knot on edge of bowl and extract any soap that has accumulated within the knot and place it in center of bowl.
-- Without adding water (at this point) re-work soap, then re-extract pasty soap from knot and place in center of bowl.
-- Add small amount of water and re-work soap, then re-extract lather from knot and place in center of bowl.
-- Repeat above step until desired lather consistency is achieved.
-- You might want to add additional water to the lather on last passes for extra slickness.
It seems plenty of lather can be made for a shave with a pea-size amount of soap, if one consistently removes any soap/lather that get stuck in the knot. Larger synthetic knots allow for more activity on the soap. I don't know how well a badger knot would fare with extracting lather from the knot, but my old synthetic brushes have held up very, very well.

Nice lather. You use about 5 times the amount of soap I use. I measure 1/16 tsp of soap per 1/2 Tbsp of distilled water.
Thanks so much for watching Robert! Yeah, I definitely like to use a lot of soap (I also don't mind that since I have so much darn soap in my den). For whatever reason I always get my preferred results with more soap but there's no right or wrong way to do it. After all you can get a great shave with pretty much any type of lather. I have now reduced my soap down to 1/32 tsp to 1.25 tsp of distilled water. I use the Pereira Shave Bowl and agitate for 75 seconds with a slightly damp synthetic brush.
@@robertross8565Do you have hard, or well water? I have well water, it’s somewhat hard. My soap maker suggested I use a little citric acid. I have some now, but yet to use it, as I’m using bottled water atm.

Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm happy you enjoyed! I mean, there isn't really a right and wrong way if you generate a good lather. Personally I don't like adding a bunch of water to my soap containers because over time it may get mildewy and affect the scent of the soap. Also if I go to sell the soap later down the road I don't want the whole tub to be filled with water. Again this is just my personal take. Hope you have a great day!
I never done a yet shave before, im about to though. It shouldn't take you ten minutes to lather up. After seeing many videos most people don't add enough water because they squeeze it out. So just let it drip and lather from the soap then the bowl.

I think one of the things to point out is at one point you have plenty of lather for a 3-pass shave and a face wash after, and there is still plenty of product still stuck to the bottom of the bowl. Just proves you don’t need to use as much as you did. You could have made the same lather with half the product.
Thanks for watching. Yes, that’s probably true. I stated at the start of the video that you don’t need to use as much soap as I did. I’m just showing my personal method here. In my experience I frankly don’t get as good of a lather with a small amount of soap. But that’s just personal preference. As with most things in this hobby, your mileage may vary. How do you store the brush, Can you reuse the laher?
I don’t recommend having the lather sit for a while and re using it later. It breaks down after a few hours. But my wife commonly uses my lather half an hour after I shave and it’s fine.
Do any Pucks or hard soaps will work? You can mix and match old soaps? to fit in any mug or cup that you like to use. like Mitchells' Wool Fat? Cut the bar soap up, put in a mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, microwave for a minute or so? if it foams up, stop ? let cool you just went to congeal' place in the sun, until soap hardens use dry brush more water i use Dove soaps there cheap and good save your money spend it on your wife don't listen to the shave mafia. wheelchair Larry Merry Christmas

Thanks for watching! You certainly don’t have to take this long to build the lather. You can lather it like this for a minute or two, while adding water and get a good shave with that.

Thanks for watching. Yeah I just meant when you tub lather soaps, hair and blood can enter the soap, which to me sounds kinda gross. I also don’t like tub lathering because I enjoy sending samples of soaps to people, and I don’t want to send them samples that have had water, hair, blood introduced to them. I prefer to keep my soaps dry and just scoop it into the bowl to lather.

You need a good lather for a great shave! I used to keep my lather watery because I wrongfully believed it would create a slicker shave; boy, was I wrong! Great video!
