NU-40K is dead in our local area. we have a large group that still plays 5th ed core rules 40K and we are having a blast (and saving a ton of money). but you are right, there are a ton of other games out there you could be playing. the other hotness in our local game scene is MCP, heavy gear, classic battle tech, flames of war, infinity, victory at sea, as for dead games from time to time we still play-DUST 1947, warmachine MKIII, B5 wars, WHFB, epic 40K, battle fleet gothic and the like.

I used to work for VELUX, the European window company. I quit bcs of financial reasons. Anyway a year later I see a factory manager gloating on LinkedIn about his completed Unconscious Bias training. I asked him under the comments regarding the training. I asked him, why did he need this training? He told me that it was very good bcs it "opened his eyes" to his unknown biases (origin, religion, cultural background) regarding the process of hiring and promotion. To which I replied with "Why? dont you want the BEST PERSON for the job?" For DAYS I didnt get any reply and then he gave me this generic face saving comment like "but of course". And then I wrote: So why did you need this training again, when you had the right idea all along? You see a CV, a woman with 2 years of experience and barely qualified and a man with 6 years of experience and all the necessary qualification, who will you hire?" He never replied, ever since. DEI is DIE...I never miss a chance to put these idiots on the line.

It bothers me immensely that I when I finally decide to get a story written, there will be publishers ready and waiting to get me started, but my much more talented friends will have to keep searching for takers just because I have chromosomes/body parts they don’t. It would be like picking a grey racehorse even though he’s slower because “there’s too many bays.” I don’t want what is essentially social justice charity, I want to know that my work stands on its own merits.

The 40k setting is supposed to be a horrible place to live. I don't think they understand forcing "diversity™" is not going to send the same message they're intending.

Just imagine wanting a simple job at GW, something like factory work just to be lectured and have to go through mandatory re think training. It’s not good enough anymore that the individual is just capable and have the required qualifications, no now it’s required that you think like everyone else too.

Disregarding GW's politics they're game system is just bad in my humble opinion. Battletech (which is my game of choice) gets called rules heavy but with a few exceptions the rules feel fair. I've yet to play a game of Battletech that I've felt the outcome was BS. Can't say the same for 40k.

We might need to watch Clockwork Orange if you wonder how those unconscious bias training struggle sessions look like.
