There's female inquisitors with gear and resources rivaling custodes out there. The leader of the sisters of battle is literally a high lord of Terra, one of the most powerful being in the entire galaxy.

No, they aren't as elite as the Astartes or Custodes, but they're still leagues above the (mostly male) Imperial Guard, and they're a lot more numerous than Space Marines are. Sororitas actually operate in large armies mounting frontal assaults, rather than surgical strikes like the Astartes do.
Everyone knows Henry's favorite faction is Custodians. This is a direct assault on the lore to make him cave or walk. Some rainbow ( Tzeentch/ Slannesh) worshippers who have infested the staff are commencing operation But Light to destroy the brand. They hate everything everyone else loves.
This feels like when Marvel Comics made Star-Lord bi to spite Chris Pratt, to cater to the Twitter hate mob (redundant, amirite?). Token female Custodian, but nerf Custodians and no new models? Personal attack on Cavill indeed.

Amazon demands woke show but think of Reacher and other shows. They are not all full on "woke". Or better, he could be the only one preventing the show from being terrible by gatekeeping it from the irrational people at Amazon and fighting back, making sure everything is cohesive and true to lore wether they like it or not since this done by a fan (him) for the fans, long time fans and new ones like me. That isn't necessarily a bad thing for GW, but it could be they are losing out on sales because they can't meet the lower price demand too.

I have too agree, the first red flag was when they went after the fan art and animated videos they made like Astartes, which in my opinion was better than the movies GW put their name behind, and how GW did those fans who put in a hell of an effort wrong. To date the only one that comes even remotely close is the Blood Angels animated series in being true to the look of WH40K. The acting in that one is a different matter, How are you going to take a Blood Angel and have him be worried about his future when all of the Space Marine chapters are much less emotional by design than an average being. Their analytical, battle hardened tacticians and warriors not some weak minded cowards that worry about what the future holds they deal in the here and now.

I think the cavil, Amazon, gw conflict sounds feasible in and of itself. It's the bit where it's directly connected to putting it in the codex and lore retcon that doesn't make as much sense. I think it's a case of two likely correct events, i.e. cavil Amazon stuff and GW doing the codex thing. That assumption here (that is the Hallmark of conspiracy theory type stuff) is the issue. Two dots that aren't necessarily connected.
After what was done with the Fallout Tv series and the Halo Tv series, I DON'T want to see a Warhammer 40,000 Tv series. I can just keep my Damnaitus and Astarties and GW can just F*** OFF!
Instead of expanding the lore of already existing factions such as sisters of silence, battle etc, female imperial guard, eldar and so on, or introducing a new female faction within the lore, they are going to ruin the IP to please less than 1% of players and fans. Have these companies not learnt anything from Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Bud Light etc and how their IPs were destroyed by the DEI BS.
Just a one time thing and no new sculpts? Ya, I doubt that. Tourist or not, the PR nightmare that would result from them pulling a move like this would be obscenely bad.

@DrTheRich they won't do that, they would have to wait for 11th edition, it's very, very rare for a faction to get new models outside of their codex drop time frame with the sole exception being kill teams. Now I doubt they will bring out a custodes kill team, they seem to be using kill team to either refresh units that desperately need it, add fluffy units, or add new units to factions that are using really old sculpts.

@@DrTheRich it's possible but I doubt GW will do that, consider the expense that goes into each of those plastic molds, not to mention if they do decide to make a commerative model it would probably go right to legends unless the character is designed perfectly to fit in with the current rules for the custodes.
The only reasons I can think about them putting it in the codex is that they could try to gage the community reception, if it's accepted amazon wins, if not GW can bring it to amazon saying hey this is not popular so we shouldn't go through with it. Also I question the editing GW does on its books so it might be a rouge employee.
@NameIsDoc it's possible they wanted to put it in something that would fundamentally get more views than in say a white dwarf article, some warcom article, some comic or other media, by putting it in a codex they can to an extent guarantee the widest net cast to get the necessary feedback to present to Amazon and perhaps investors. Codices themselves are not necessarily set in stone, newer ones tend to retcon or change older lore sometimes, and with the way they wrote the story they could easily swap the character into a sister of silence and call it a day. I still think we need to adopt a wait and see approach, especially if these leaks are to be believed.

There shouldn't even BE any custodes in the first 40k show/movie, no audience beyond the audiance 40k has now would even know what they are or accept their OP bullshit nerfplz abilities.
The annoying thing is this could have been explained away as a genetic abnormality (like ogryns) that allowed it to happen and she was the only one. Perhaps she had to wear her helmet a lot (you could even work in prejudice there if you're inclined to). You could uglify her like the current trend is by making her old. You could have your character mini in the game. Too many people believe that Cavil would be able to single-handedly force Amazon to give him an exemption for their ESG/DEI/Bridge guidelines. Almost as bad, far too less of people are willing to entertainment the faintest possibility that this whole controversy started from Amazon at the BEHEST of Henry Cavil. You don't need a bazillion characters like Guard, nor a ton of CGI like the Astartes would probably force you to use because Astartes are about the size of MCU Thanos. It's something other than the damn poster boys for once (one place where nonstandard representation would actually be appreciated) but not so far off the Imperium reservation that publishers start missing their protagonist-centric security blanket. The only major ptoblem I can foresee is that, by skipping all the iconic stuff, you start feeling like early seasons of Agents of SHIELD where it feels like NCIS as written by someone who once made eye contact with a comic book store. So I guess the security blanket exists for a reason.

I suspect it was done in the codex first to soften us up. If he knew about this at all, there's no way Cavill didn't expect it to cause a firestorm with the fans. His show would be DOA if it was our first introduction to a female Custodes.
It doesn't matter if GW caved to demands of Blackrock/Vanguard or Amazon. No difference in intent. If the company will betray fans due to corporate demands and the universe has no consistent history or lore then there really is no universe, is there? It can just be thrown out and rewritten on a whim because some corpo suit with no knowledge of the world and no commitment to the lore demands it. GW has one shot to course correct this or the sad reality is the 40k universe dies a slow but diverse and inclusive death.
It is a shame to see what happend with the suff I loved, when I was younger I enjoyed Sar Wars before they killed off the already existing Lore. Sooo I looked for a new Story that captured my interest and found 40K I was shaptical at first but the more I looked into it the more I thought I could "Would" not happend to the new franchise I was so damn exited for.... Im a trained storyteller to a professional level. I smell fiction, cleverly woven to match with known facts and common suspiscions, hence telling people what they want to hear (on some level at least, everyone loves drama). 🌹 Poor Warhammer. As if the Sisters of Silence/Battle, the female Assassins, the Imperial Guard female soldiers and the Eldar/Tau female warriors aren't enough. We fans must respond to this intolerable corruption like this: Waaagh! There are so many amazing strong female characters in Warhammer that everyone likes because they are beautiful and well written. This other stuff is just giving the dog the bone and then everything else follows.
With how corporatised GW no doubt is, writing a female custodies would most likely take months of approvals to get on the page. So it wouldn’t make a lot of sense if it was just a last minute addition just to please Amazon executives
the codex would have been finalized and sent printers months ago (probably well before the end of last year) so ya, this was not a last minute thing, it would have been floating for between four to six months if not longer.
There’s alot of things that can be corroborated by news and factors that have happened and may happen. It’s hard to tell, the thing about Amazon being THAT involved may be accurate if the budget is high for the 40k show, as they tend to have more executive involvement with higher budget shows and productions; I.e. Rings of Power.
I would argue a codex would be the best way to imolement the lore and discard it afterwards. You replace codexes every 3-ish years. White Dwarf doesnt have enough eyeballs and can easily be dismissed. A novel is too permanent. This was basically their best bet---if this is true. I guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks.

They wanted to keep Cavill and they know how he is about lore and they GENUINELY thought that if they had it officially put into Warhammer Lore that Cavill would stay on with the show. And GW thought they could make the change quietly without anyone noticing... and then their social media manager spoke up. I don't think it would work on Cavill in the first place. I guess inquisitor Greyfax doesn't mean shit then, total and absolute fucking bad ass who was so sure of her convictions she even thought that killing Guilliman would be for the better. Ephrael Stern, was a better fighter than many drukhari when she fought in the slave pits of Commorragh. Adjutant Cyria Tyrio, was cool enough to be respected by the black fucking templars. The Sisters of Battle are probably the most well respected human force the Imperium has, Astartes respect them, the Guard love them, even the inquistion isn't as fanatical in it's worship of the Emperor as the sisters are, but i guess that's not cool enough
okay, a few thoughts- Don't discount a combination here- Amazon's track records, GW's usual incompetences when it's not malice, and the investment firms. apparently the #1 firm with stake in GW is similar to blackrock and vanguard in focus if what ive been told is true. so if those companies are your concern that puts total push of them to... what? 20%? combine that with Amazons track record and GW apparently appearing the fool in their dealings from what i know and i could honestly see this, except I know so little about Cavill that I don't know anything of where he stands. due to his cred, im sure he's being watched closely, and either was already talked to or is being talked to now. I do wonder what he thinks about all of this. An interesting rumor indeed...
Codexes contain small tidbits of lore contained within very short stories. This was a two-page story, I believe. Usually it's to point to an interesting point that builds the feel of the army's lore, and the point of the story seemed less to be about the Custodes being female and more about what the Custodes was doing and how far one would be willing to go. The decision to make the Custodes female could be any reason, including the ones discussed here, and that maybe they were trying to hint that they could exist. I personally don't specifically care. But the way they reacted on their social media was absolutely what made this blow up.
I won't spend another penny with GW. I'm sick to death of this woke sh*t. I was actually going to get Custodes and Grey Knights armies this Edition. No chance now.
If they wanted a powerful woman in the show it should have been a sister of silence, sister of battle, perpetual, Solar Auxilia, inquisitor (and or psyker), lucificer black, one of the assassin orders (Callidus comes to mind, but a vindicare could also be nice being an excellent shot), could even have an aeldari depending on the storyline (Roboute Guilliman or rogue trader story could work with this), they could also be a rogue trader or a tech priest. A woman tech priest with some sort of power armor or mech suit that leaves the suit, but still has integrated weapons would work perfectly. None of these things outright rewrite or change the lore and all function properly.
With so much being said, and even making mainstream news, GW will have to say something. They might want to be quiet, straddle things, but clearly they can't ignore all this.

Now THIS would be a tragedy! I don't mind the femstodes that much, but if they drove Henry Cavill away from the show, it would be a travesty and GW would have a lot to answer for.
Having been into 40k from the late 90s. I think it is fair to say GW's😮 attitude to their customers would make cigarette companies uncomfortable! The Amazon line smells like BS! GW is counting the fact we care too much to walk away. But Lucasfilm and paramount went down that road and it is not working out too well!
I would think that putting it in the codex would be about making it "official" before they do it for the show. Amazon shows take a lot of well-deserved flak for all of their DEI nonsense, but GW inserting Femstodes "officially" well before the show comes out would deflect that criticism from the show, at least in theory. If it is in the codex yet GW has no plans to produce any miniatures or novels (and they don't think anyone really wants Femstodes anyway), they could let it wither and die on the vine later. The obvious problem with this-and why it's important the "leak" says important people were out of the loop-is that 40K fans obviously take the lore very seriously. Whoever acquiesced to Amazon's demand, per this leak, would be someone severely out of touch with the actual fans... probably some corporate type. And there are certainly pinkos within GW who would "yes man" the decision because they have been wanting to push pinko crap anyway. Not hard to see how something like this could spiral out of control.

If this leak is true, than Amazon wanting a permanent woke lore change makes sense due to what happened with their "The Rings of Power' show, where that show got a massive backlash from the fans due it's unfaithfulness to the lore. Because they don't want that to happen with their WH40K show, so they went to makers of the lore and directly asked for their woke lore changes to be made cannon.
They could've done it a million ways, even a flat edict from the Emperor with no explanation and still fit with lore, but they choose instead to retcon and gaslight. If it's Amazon, they just firebombed their own show attacking the franchise.
Ok this is gonna be a long one but I gotta discuss this with people to see if I’m crazy or not. Now for some background, massive fan of warhammer 40K, but fairly new, I plan on buying either a sisters of battle army, kriegsmen or Cadian Kasrkins so I can actually play the game but I’m broke. With that out of the way, I have an issue with female custodes because of the main reasons most are: 1) going against set lore where they are clearly stated to be all male and 2) games workshop trying to play it off as they were always there. I’ve always had an eye for the sisters of silence, and that’s what angers/saddens me the most, is that they could’ve given us new models and lore that I know people have been asking for, they’ve been asking for it for quite a while now, and I want some new lore and models for them because I would love to have a SoS army, but they didn’t do that, they went in a route that felt very lazy and unnecessary. Of course points from the other side I have seen is that they aren’t custodes and they don’t work together often with custodes, I’m not so sure about that I need to look into it more, but the point still stands, they are still the female equivalent for being bodyguards for the emperor/OG witch hunters, with from what I have read they don’t do that a lot however I could be wrong. Now I have no issue with having LGBTQ+, people of color, etc etc in stuff, long as it makes sense, and as long as they are well written, in warhammer I can’t see low class citizens being able to enjoy same sex relationships, who else is going to produce soldiers for the imperium, same with high class nobles, like the ones the custodes are born from. However middle class I would say like commanders or soldiers I feel could get a pass on this, and there’s of course slaanesh and their forces which are I would consider “trans representation” I suppose, I don’t know. My issue is with “representation” I don’t get it, why can’t we just have relatable characters? I can relate and enjoy a female character in a game, movie, show etc, even if I’m a man myself, I can relate and enjoy a person of color even if I’m not ethically the same as them. Anyways that’s my stance, had to get it out and wondering if I’m crazy or not for thinking this way. Anyways CADIA STANDS!

I have too agree, the first red flag was when they went after the fan art and animated videos they made like Astartes, which in my opinion was better than the movies GW put their name behind, and how GW did those fans who put in a hell of an effort wrong. To date the only one that comes even remotely close is the Blood Angels animated series in being true to the look of WH40K. The acting in that one is a different matter, How are you going to take a Blood Angel and have him be worried about his future when all of the Space Marine chapters are much less emotional by design than an average being. Their analytical, battle hardened tacticians and warriors not some weak minded cowards that worry about what the future holds they deal in the here and now.

I think the cavil, Amazon, gw conflict sounds feasible in and of itself. It's the bit where it's directly connected to putting it in the codex and lore retcon that doesn't make as much sense. I think it's a case of two likely correct events, i.e. cavil Amazon stuff and GW doing the codex thing. That assumption here (that is the Hallmark of conspiracy theory type stuff) is the issue. Instead of expanding the lore of already existing factions such as sisters of silence, battle etc, female imperial guard, eldar and so on, or introducing a new female faction within the lore, they are going to ruin the IP to please less than 1% of players and fans. @DrTheRich they won't do that, they would have to wait for 11th edition, it's very, very rare for a faction to get new models outside of their codex drop time frame with the sole exception being kill teams. Now I doubt they will bring out a custodes kill team, they seem to be using kill team to either refresh units that desperately need it, add fluffy units, or add new units to factions that are using really old sculpts.

@@DrTheRich it's possible but I doubt GW will do that, consider the expense that goes into each of those plastic molds, not to mention if they do decide to make a commerative model it would probably go right to legends unless the character is designed perfectly to fit in with the current rules for the custodes.
The only reasons I can think about them putting it in the codex is that they could try to gage the community reception, if it's accepted amazon wins, if not GW can bring it to amazon saying hey this is not popular so we shouldn't go through with it. Also I question the editing GW does on its books so it might be a rouge employee.
That's the best case scenario because then if they do remove it and fans return than we signal to GW who butters their bread and who they answer too.
Then they should have done it in something that can be non cannonized the codex is a big deal

@NameIsDoc it's possible they wanted to put it in something that would fundamentally get more views than in say a white dwarf article, some warcom article, some comic or other media, by putting it in a codex they can to an extent guarantee the widest net cast to get the necessary feedback to present to Amazon and perhaps investors. Codices themselves are not necessarily set in stone, newer ones tend to retcon or change older lore sometimes, and with the way they wrote the story they could easily swap the character into a sister of silence and call it a day. I still think we need to adopt a wait and see approach, especially if these leaks are to be believed.

The annoying thing is this could have been explained away as a genetic abnormality (like ogryns) that allowed it to happen and she was the only one. Perhaps she had to wear her helmet a lot (you could even work in prejudice there if you're inclined to). You could uglify her like the current trend is by making her old. Why _not_ a Sisters series? You don't need a bazillion characters like Guard, nor a ton of CGI like the Astartes would probably force you to use because Astartes are about the size of MCU Thanos. It's something other than the damn poster boys for once (one place where nonstandard representation would actually be appreciated) but not so far off the Imperium reservation that publishers start missing their protagonist-centric security blanket. The only major ptoblem I can foresee is that, by skipping all the iconic stuff, you start feeling like early seasons of Agents of SHIELD where it feels like NCIS as written by someone who once made eye contact with a comic book store. So I guess the security blanket exists for a reason.

I suspect it was done in the codex first to soften us up. If he knew about this at all, there's no way Cavill didn't expect it to cause a firestorm with the fans. His show would be DOA if it was our first introduction to a female Custodes.

It doesn't matter if GW caved to demands of Blackrock/Vanguard or Amazon. No difference in intent. If the company will betray fans due to corporate demands and the universe has no consistent history or lore then there really is no universe, is there? It can just be thrown out and rewritten on a whim because some corpo suit with no knowledge of the world and no commitment to the lore demands it. GW has one shot to course correct this or the sad reality is the 40k universe dies a slow but diverse and inclusive death.

There’s alot of things that can be corroborated by news and factors that have happened and may happen. It’s hard to tell, the thing about Amazon being THAT involved may be accurate if the budget is high for the 40k show, as they tend to have more executive involvement with higher budget shows and productions; I.e. Rings of Power.
I would argue a codex would be the best way to imolement the lore and discard it afterwards. You replace codexes every 3-ish years. White Dwarf doesnt have enough eyeballs and can easily be dismissed. A novel is too permanent. This was basically their best bet---if this is true. I guess we'll find out in a couple of weeks.
Speaking to the upcoming actual Codex... I suggest that people rip out the page(s) mentioning female Custodes and then mail those pages to GW HQ.
I think... if I had to guess... They wanted to keep Cavill and they know how he is about lore and they GENUINELY thought that if they had it officially put into Warhammer Lore that Cavill would stay on with the show. And GW thought they could make the change quietly without anyone noticing... and then their social media manager spoke up.

apparently the #1 firm with stake in GW is similar to blackrock and vanguard in focus if what ive been told is true. so if those companies are your concern that puts total push of them to... what? 20%? combine that with Amazons track record and GW apparently appearing the fool in their dealings from what i know and i could honestly see this, except I know so little about Cavill that I don't know anything of where he stands. due to his cred, im sure he's being watched closely, and either was already talked to or is being talked to now. I do wonder what he thinks about all of this.

Codexes contain small tidbits of lore contained within very short stories. This was a two-page story, I believe. Usually it's to point to an interesting point that builds the feel of the army's lore, and the point of the story seemed less to be about the Custodes being female and more about what the Custodes was doing and how far one would be willing to go. The decision to make the Custodes female could be any reason, including the ones discussed here, and that maybe they were trying to hint that they could exist. I personally don't specifically care. But the way they reacted on their social media was absolutely what made this blow up.
I won't spend another penny with GW. I'm sick to death of this woke sh*t.

If they wanted a powerful woman in the show it should have been a sister of silence, sister of battle, perpetual, Solar Auxilia, inquisitor (and or psyker), lucificer black, one of the assassin orders (Callidus comes to mind, but a vindicare could also be nice being an excellent shot), could even have an aeldari depending on the storyline (Roboute Guilliman or rogue trader story could work with this), they could also be a rogue trader or a tech priest. A woman tech priest with some sort of power armor or mech suit that leaves the suit, but still has integrated weapons would work perfectly. None of these things outright rewrite or change the lore and all function properly.
With so much being said, and even making mainstream news, GW will have to say something. They might want to be quiet, straddle things, but clearly they can't ignore all this.

Now THIS would be a tragedy! I don't mind the femstodes that much, but if they drove Henry Cavill away from the show, it would be a travesty and GW would have a lot to answer for.

Having been into 40k from the late 90s. I think it is fair to say GW's😮 attitude to their customers would make cigarette companies uncomfortable! The Amazon line smells like BS! GW is counting the fact we care too much to walk away.
But Lucasfilm and paramount went down that road and it is not working out too well!
I would think that putting it in the codex would be about making it "official" before they do it for the show. Amazon shows take a lot of well-deserved flak for all of their DEI nonsense, but GW inserting Femstodes "officially" well before the show comes out would deflect that criticism from the show, at least in theory. If it is in the codex yet GW has no plans to produce any miniatures or novels (and they don't think anyone really wants Femstodes anyway), they could let it wither and die on the vine later.
The obvious problem with this-and why it's important the "leak" says important people were out of the loop-is that 40K fans obviously take the lore very seriously. Whoever acquiesced to Amazon's demand, per this leak, would be someone severely out of touch with the actual fans... probably some corporate type. And there are certainly pinkos within GW who would "yes man" the decision because they have been wanting to push pinko crap anyway. Not hard to see how something like this could spiral out of control.

If this leak is true, than Amazon wanting a permanent woke lore change makes sense due to what happened with their "The Rings of Power' show, where that show got a massive backlash from the fans due it's unfaithfulness to the lore. Because they don't want that to happen with their WH40K show, so they went to makers of the lore and directly asked for their woke lore changes to be made cannon.

They could've done it a million ways, even a flat edict from the Emperor with no explanation and still fit with lore, but they choose instead to retcon and gaslight.

Ok this is gonna be a long one but I gotta discuss this with people to see if I’m crazy or not. Now for some background, massive fan of warhammer 40K, but fairly new, I plan on buying either a sisters of battle army, kriegsmen or Cadian Kasrkins so I can actually play the game but I’m broke.
With that out of the way, I have an issue with female custodes because of the main reasons most are: 1) going against set lore where they are clearly stated to be all male and 2) games workshop trying to play it off as they were always there. I’ve always had an eye for the sisters of silence, and that’s what angers/saddens me the most, is that they could’ve given us new models and lore that I know people have been asking for, they’ve been asking for it for quite a while now, and I want some new lore and models for them because I would love to have a SoS army, but they didn’t do that, they went in a route that felt very lazy and unnecessary. Of course points from the other side I have seen is that they aren’t custodes and they don’t work together often with custodes, I’m not so sure about that I need to look into it more, but the point still stands, they are still the female equivalent for being bodyguards for the emperor/OG witch hunters, with from what I have read they don’t do that a lot however I could be wrong. Now I have no issue with having LGBTQ+, people of color, etc etc in stuff, long as it makes sense, and as long as they are well written, in warhammer I can’t see low class citizens being able to enjoy same sex relationships, who else is going to produce soldiers for the imperium, same with high class nobles, like the ones the custodes are born from. However middle class I would say like commanders or soldiers I feel could get a pass on this, and there’s of course slaanesh and their forces which are I would consider “trans representation” I suppose, I don’t know. My issue is with “representation” I don’t get it, why can’t we just have relatable characters? I can relate and enjoy a female character in a game, movie, show etc, even if I’m a man myself, I can relate and enjoy a person of color even if I’m not ethically the same as them.
Anyways that’s my stance, had to get it out and wondering if I’m crazy or not for thinking this way. Anyways CADIA STANDS!
