If it weren't for GW's narrow-minded thinking and if their IQ were even slightly above room temperature, then half the gaming industry would consist of Warhammer.
You can see the virtue signallers circling, posting the same 2 or 3 I'll informed arguments and getting the same number of likes per comment, the arguments being:
1) 40K lore changes all the time, they then cite something from the 80's when it was Rouge Trader,
2) It's a small change what does it matter, obvious counter, if it doesn't why make the change
3) This is a bit of an over reaction against GW from the fans for a minor thing, which makes it clear they know nothing and are just here for the controversy, anyone who has even the smallest bit of knowledge about GW would never White Knight for them.

Here's my conspiracy theory for you all, presented as a chain of likely events
1) The hobby is doing just fine. Steady growth. Male audience with a minority of female. No problem.
2) Activists worm their way into the board. Fortunately their plans aren't profitable.
3) Henry Cavill tries to show people that being a boardgame geek is cool, and you can be a geeky, cool and successful male. He's not what activists want.
4) Cavill shows interest in a 40k tv show, but only if it sticks to the lore 100%. If not, he's out. Contracts are signed.
5) TV show rumours and Cavill massively inflate the product interest. For the first time in decades, there is potential for new customers.
6) Activists want to spread their message to this new audience, but the contract prevents it. There can be no female marines or custodes because the lore says it's not possible.
7) The contract *doesn't* prevent the Lore being changed. WAMEN get injected with no consideration at all, so that they exist in time for the Tv show to be produced in their vision.
8) The TV show (which undoubtably will have Space Marines to draw in the audience, then move towards Custodes in future seasons) is now obliged to show powerful male superheroes get obliterated by strong independent WAMEN in season 2.
I'm predicting Cavill sticking around for his fans and his own passion for 1 season, then either bowing out or being killed off in season 2, when a single female custodes humiliates all space marines, closes the eye of terror, then single-handedly beats an Avatar with her newly discovered psyker powers that dwarf even the Emperor's abilities.
In fact, I bet the Emperor's patriarchy was the real villain after all. Xenos are misunderstood and oppressed by mankind... and it's time for a new inclusive era: The age of the Empress of Humanity.
They just need to do Eisenhorn, then Ravenor, then Bequin - Bequin is a strong female supporting role, who then could come back as Beta to be the protagonist of a later season. Simple. Space Marines and Custodes just aren't interesting topics for a series. It's not relatable. Inquisition stuff would have a sci-fi thriller atmosphere and could be GREAT.

I was wondering if any of the commenters on this video would bring this up! Cheers mate ~ yes, the Custodes are to a Space Marine what a Space Marine is to a Regular Joe or Jane member of the Imperial Guard. Part of the reason they were created was to have a guaranteed safeguard that'd be able to kill Space Marines (kind of like how the Custodes killed all of the Thunder Warriors when they had served their purpose). The process behind the creation of a Custodes is entirely different, and IIRC, I believe it's bespoke and individualized to the person becoming the Custodes, whereas the Space Marine's are more mass-produceable and (comparatively) cheaper to produce.
To the people Drinker is speaking to, they're not going to know that. He's not going to get into the lore details for this video about that. They're close enough that the average Joe Smoe is going to think that.

I used to have this mexican restaurant that I would eat at literally once or twice a week. It was legitimately my favorite place to eat. They were always busy, and their food was amazing.
Then they sold out to a bigger company and they started changing their dishes. Slowly at first, but it rapidly progressed until the restaurant was no longer the restaurant that we had all loved.
I stopped going as often, before stopping completely, the parking lot began to grow more and more empty as the changes continued to roll out. And eventually, people stopped going completely. And then they closed their doors.
Eventually, the people who originally sold the restaurant opened another one on the other side of town, and people flocked to it.
The moral of this story is... No matter how high and mighty you think you are, no matter how self-righteous or money hungry you may be, eventually, if you change something enough it becomes something different altogether, and people will stop having any interest in it. They will simply wait for someone else to do what you used to do, they will flock to it and it will thrive while you close down.
Just some food for thought.

This reminds me of the thought experiment/paradox with the ship of Odysseus. It dealt with how, being such a historic artifact it was constantly being repaired so it could be viewed by future generations, which meant having parts that rotted away occasionally replaced.
Over the hundreds of years since the time of Odysseus every single hull board, deck board, nail, rope, and sail had been replaced multiple times. The question is whether it was even the ship of Odysseus as none of the parts on it were original anymore.

Minor correction: It is Warhammer 40K and not Warhammer. Warhammer is the fantasy setting. Warhammer 40K is the Sci Fi one.

40k isn't purely science fiction, it includes anything from magic, to make belief, all the way back to science fiction.
If 40k is purely "SCIENCE FICTION" (a fictional setting about fictional scientific advancements), then the original warhammer has that too - unless you think dwarven machinery, or any machinery in Warhammer, is real.

Edit: The science-fiction IPs I listed above were niche in the US (where i live), but I loved them nonetheless. However, when they finally became 'mainstream', it seems the companies that owned/made them (mostly/completley) forgot what made them popular/iconic in the first place.

Females are not necessary to be space marines or custodes. Male Space Marines and Custodes have their genitalia removed, because it is also not necessary. All they need is muscle, limbs, and extra organs. The male body naturally have the advantage in muscle mass, enough said. That is why they are the Space Marines.
If a woman Space Marine existed, it would be more difficult to create and more costly. From the genital mutilation, increasing muscle growth, etc etc. Male already is winning in terms of efficiency and resources in that regard. You would just be making the woman into a man while it's already been/being genetically altered. What's the point? You realize Space Marines are basically clones of their respective Primarchs, right?
Sisters of Battles are not Space Marines, not even close. But they fit. They are literally ripped in half and used by Grey Knights, their blood is a protective layer against Daemons/Warp magic.

The Eisenhorn books are better. More story. Most Heresy books are too long, have too many characters and too little plot (there are a few gems though).

I do have an issue with the narrative that every female character seems to be better than the average male in the books/lore/etc. It also annoys me as someone who served to see a bunch of physically incapable nerds say "women can be soldiers too." I remember when they brought in the Sisters of Battle back in the 90s. They became quite niche in the next couple of decades but came back with a vengeance in 2019. They did it right with them too, they didn’t make them artificially physically stronger to be competitive (certainly not on a ridiculous scale). Instead they created effective game mechanics that recognised their physical differences to males and compensated by creating faith and miracle mechanics. These gave the faction some effective tactics and capability and made you think about how you were going to play them to make them work. It was nice to see they didn’t just Mary Sue them.
Also they were true to how females are always complaining about being cold. So made flamer weapons their go to... 😂

One quick correction, Custodes are NOT Space Marines. The two are entirely different. Space Marines are produced en masse, while Custodes were handcrafted by The Emperor himself.

Its amazing how good the resin prints are now, have a few myself and some of them are better than the originals (for context, not WH40K but FWW)
Worst part is, most 3D prints at this point are both better and cheaper than clipping all bits from a sprue and cleaning them.
