Great video, Thanks for sharing.... keep up the good work.
Thanks for watching!
I don’t remember many of the commercials as a kid, but the one that immediately comes to mind that made me want to be a Marine was the chess one. I loved that. That and always seeing them with Sabres & dress blues, I thought they were the most well dressed bad asses on earth. I ultimately went into the Air Force because the recruiter wasn’t blowing up my phone damn near every day. That along with a lot of family members & friends saying it’s great opportunity(which it was).
Great video man!
I think I was set on the Navy sense I watched Top Gun as a kid. One really motivational video I do remember that was shown at the end of battle stations when I went through boot camp was: Operation Enduring Freedom - The Opening Chapter if you ever see that one here on RUclips. Great video Chief!
You are the hope lol
The tiktok ads / propaganda is better than most ads
I was the legendary tenis shoe po
Nice!
Head PO always had priority for hygiene.
Wow! Super easy these days. 50 years ago meeting the physical goals (running, push-ups, etc.) was something 99% of recruits could do before joining. Youngsters these days must be a bunch of overweight gaming potatoes.
This is fantastic information! I wish I had information like this before I went to Boot Camp in the Marine Corps. The only information I had was from watching old John Wayne movies. So when I went to Boot Camp, everything was new weird and difficult. It took me a couple weeks before I understood what was going on. Mr. RDC you are giving a great service to a future navy people I always watch your videos. I hope the Navy pays you for these informative videos. Thank you.
Can you have a leadership role if you’re apart of the 900 division?
Yes!
@@askardc thank you so much . I ship out in August & all your videos have been so helpful ! 💕
Before swim qual how do they know that you can't swim Or do they kind of ask you before that or do you go in and then they see ?
They will talk to you beforehand
What if you take like pills for periods before you head out to boot camp and that shows up
As long as they are legal, you will be fine. As in what you buy from a CVS, local pharmacy, prescribed to you etc.
I miss all this stuff. Thanks for the video.
I can’t wait to make you look like a fool!
@pitchithard I was on the USS Benfold DDG 65 in 1996. Looks and sounds like I do know what I am talking about. Times were different back then , I have documents that says otherwise.l
Anytime they mix women with the men you know it’s much easier.
It amazes me.the amount of recruits that join the navy and they are unable to swim....It's the navy!!!!! Why join if you can't swim..that's stupid
To be fair, when I went through it I wasn’t the strongest swimmer. It took me 2 tries before I passed the initial swim and moved on to prone and abandoned ship. There are many people that come from urban areas that have never been in a pool. The biggest thing that they motivated us with was the fact that this shouldn’t be a tool of fear, but survival, as if you find yourself in a survival at sea scenario, something has went completely wrong. You swim to survive, not cuz it’s fun. USS Indianapolis is the name of the building the pool is located. I’d suggest you Look into it.
The funny part about the Indianapolis incident is that many of the survivors of the attack never swam until the incident! Can you believe that?
good job! thanks for sharing.
AAR stated early that we see our RDCs from when we wake up. When I went through basic, our lead told us we had to be up and ready on the toe line by the time they entered in the morning. Was this the case for everyone?
That was my experience going through bootcamp over a decade ago as well. However, during my time as a RDC, we had an instruction that only 10 or so (exact instruction changed a few times) recruits were allowed to be out of their racks at once between taps and reveille.
Mail PO was the best job no doubt
Thanks for explaining the RPOC because I saw one of the basic training graduation videos & wonder why there’d be a petty officer doing basic training.
Glad it was helpful!
Did you ever train NSI candidates?
To midshipman? No. I have had many come through that went through ROTC and similar programs. My 2nd push RCPO was one.
That first picture of an RDC was one of my RDC's in bootcamp.
Head PO was an official title when i went through bootcamp in 2022. I got to wear a 3rd class collar device, though i was inelligible for promotion as i was already an E3
With the new time in service for e4, is it still possible to get ranked up from E1 or 2 to E2 or 3 in boot camp? I know they’ve temporarily suspended MAP quotas for E3 to 34 for non ATF and PACT sailors. Also I was effectively the backup head PO and enjoyed it, despite how disgusting people are. Gave me an excuse to get away from everyone and just focus on the task at hand. Bring the education PO was one of my highlights of boot camp since it was great to host dumb game show style competitions so other recruits could learn the material for the various tests, rank and recognition, and the general orders + sailor attributes.
yes, i went in as E2, came out as E3 when i took master at arms position
@@bdrlittleman Did this occur after July 1, 2024? Navadmin 168/23 changed the time in service to promote, which is why I’m wondering if the promotion advice still applies

Good luck man, I wish you well and don't give up no matter what, 10 weeks is nothing. 😃
Boot camps a joke the entire 10 week process is a joke one day in the fleet or at buds is harder than the entire 10 week process of basic. You’ll enjoy it man.

Hope the new recruits get more respect when they get out than I did. Pretty much everyone cuts you down and degrades your service to make them selves feel good . Good luck and enjoy your time it’s rewarding and an adventure you won’t forget.

Hi RDC’s salute 🫡. My anniversary of my enlistment date is coming up…July 5 1995!
Take off that Mask!
I simply wear it to create a barrier between the channel and work.
Cigarettes and/or dip. Even if you don't smoke or chew, bring them with you. Because the ship store is going to run out eventually, and those are your bargaining chips. And hey, if you do smoke or chew, you have a reserve just in case the store runs out. I also liked bringing a big hard drive rather than a flash drive since I was in a shop full of ITs, so we all brought our own laptops, but I held most of our TV shows, anime, movies, etc, so if we wanted to watch something in the shop, we had the "Tower of Heaven" as we called it. If you can manage it, a sleeping bag and a pillow. I'm not a big fan of the linen and blankets the ship gives out, so I just set up my rack, put the linens on, laid out my sleeping bag then slept inside of it. Lastly, a light that you can stick onto surfaces for your locker and your coffin rack, if you can manage it, get one that can be a red light or one that can change brightness.
I would really appreciate a response, I plan on doing a lot of meditation somewhere a lot on a ship, and I like to burn incense while I meditate is that hypothetically possible on deployments?
I wouldn't count on that. They may allow it on the smoke deck, but that likely wont be a very quiet place, and depending on your job, you may stay more busy than others. You may be able to use non burning air fresheners in certain spaces as long as it doesn't bother anyone, but open flames or embers are generally speaking going to be not too ideal. If there was some sort of a leak of flammable substance, you probably don't want to become the first detector of that leak, it may distract you from your meditation. On a side note, when I was on a ship on my first deployment, privacy was a rarity unfortunately. The closest I would come to such a thing was in my coffin rack or on aft lookout. Aft lookout may be lonely, but its also a place you want to be vigilant on. Not only are you the rear security of the ship, but you're the last hope for any of your shipmates who may have fallen overboard. Luckily that was never put to the test for me, but regardless of the time, none of my shipmates were going to get left behind and I was constantly scanning for just that, it would be an awful way to go, getting left behind in the middle of the ocean in the darkness of night.
@@14arma I appreciate the response, and I will definitely get a smokeless sent. I’m going for MA rate, so I know I’ll be busier than others. That’s why depending on the context of my situation if I’m good there’s nothing wrong with stepping aside 5 mins to keep myself mentally centered and focused. It’s long term so I know I gotta stay cool n effective at all times. Scared and excited but that’s normal, all I can do is my best.
Depending on your duties, your station, and your routines, it could be possible. Hard to tell. If in the morning, during lunch, and after work is enough for your routine, then it should be fine. But in the middle of performing duties, standing watch, or even using actual incense with burning smoke, that would be a problem. Difficult to answer without knowing the full facts of the situation, but if people can go on smoke breaks, i do not see whey you couldn't do the same.
I leave tomorrow for basic training Hoya
Important item(s) to have: cruise box. If you talk with the LS's early, especially ones within your det, they could hook you up with the collapsible gray cruise box or a short red footlocker. Load it up with all your essentials (toilet paper, shampoos, snacks, coffee, etc.) onto a pallet with everyone else's cruise box, it'll be stowed away in a particular area that you can access to from time to time without having to take a trip to the ship store. Initially it's a heavy investment for your supplies, but it'll pay off in the long run - Especially if you're sent out in a contested area with ZERO port stops. Any extra space left, you can also help out your fellow shipmates (particularly protein powder since it's a large jug). Exercise restraint and conserve your resources for the long haul. Wet wipes: Although it'll be frowned upon since you can't flush it down the toilet. It is, however, useful to have a pack to wipe down your hotspots when water is secured for maintenance. Ziploc bags: 1 gallon ziploc bags (without the slider) is useful in containing and keeping your clothing, undergarments, and even items completely dry. It doubles as a small vacuum storage bag. Just ranger roll your clothes, stuff'em in, and squeeze out as much air out before sealing it closed. Use the Homebase brand as it's easier on your budget and works just as well as the popular name brands. You'll be surprised how much more items you can squeeze inside your seabag. Shower caddy: I got a small one that has suction cups to carry shampoo, body wash, and wash cloth. Since some showers don't have a shelf to hold your bottles, sticking the caddy to the bulkhead is better than having your bottles sit on the floor 🤢 JBL Xtreme 3: Music can set the mood for the rest of the shop. It performs well, much easier to carry than the JBL partybox, and you can also wirelessly link other JBL speakers together to create surround sound. If bluetooth is secured, it has an aux jack input to plug your phone into. Toilet paper: Never liked the single ply tp to begin with. Stock up on your go-to brand, remove the cardboard tube, and squeeze it flat for compact storage. You can fit 1 in a 1 quart ziploc bag for your daily use or 2 in a 1 gallon ziploc for bulk storage. Walker's Razor slim ear muffs: Useful if you get the opportunity to do a gun shoot, work in a noisy environment, or don't like wearing the ear foam plugs. Uses 2 AAA batteries for the noise canceling feature. Bought mine at a discount at an outdoors box retailer. Streamlight Sidewinder: You can buy the multi color (white, blue, red, and IR) or you can opt for the sidewinder boot that has a sliding red filter. Red for low light conditions for traversing after taps Travel storage bags: Particularly the medium-size ones for civilian clothes (you don't need a lot anyway). Some brands also have a mini vacuum to buy separately to help compress items quicker. I also keep a large one to store my dirty laundry. Better to keep the funk contained than having it seep out like a curse from your rack.

about to go underway? stay safe!
so informative and helpful. Excellent video!! What's the best care package you received? What are some ideas of things to include in a care package. Also I'm curious how the FPO works? Keep up the good work.
Glad to help! Best care package I received was one with a bunch of different hot sauces my family sent me. Most people, including myself, go on diets and workout like crazy. And condiments usually run out quickly on deployment. A good hot sauce goes a long way. As far as FPO, its just a way for mail services to reach the ship no matter where it is.
And I was awakening spiritually and I worked, I would go to gym and exercise, and it lead me back to Great Lakes., mentally. I am keeping myself grounded at this moment.
Hope your day is well , did you eat?💖. being apart of 2 different companies, we took a lot of pictures, we were in our dress whites. I do have a picture of myself in uniform where I don’t smile, that picture is in black and white. My brother companies were 352 and 374. I’m staying off Facebook too for awhile. I know I’ve been getting hacked. So it feels safer here. Anyways, I know you have a busy schedule, chat with you later🩷
Good morning. Part of a key to success is…consistency!/Communication. I 🫡 salute you. True story (2018) a navy helicopter/aircraft found me at an old job (krogers grocery). I wanted to let you know that. And another navy helicopter found me at waffle house 2nd job. Moving forward.
I married a Navy man in 1995 , Great Lakes. Divorced in 2020. We are still good friends.
My enlistment date was July 5th, 1995. ⚓️. I stood watch. My job back then was mechanical repairman/Engineer. My discharge was July 31st, 1996. In my present and as a civilian, I am in food service and I am certified, servsafe ,and I’ve been thinking about new career in food service and new location. I’ve always kept my military demeanor about myself. I try to encourage and stay positive. Self respect, self love and self discipline.
This what I looked like in my sailor uniform. I’ll leave it up for awhile. 😄
