I’ve never been as shocked by human behavior as I was at my RTC. I was throughly convinced she hated us all with much animosity and it was marrow deep. Then she up and cries when we graduated and suddenly became a normal person.
That was almost 30 yrs ago and no one has surprised me like that since…
Thank you for your service!

I remember our division getting ITE'd and our 3rd RDC said we got a 3.5 but after, he said we got a 4.8 😂. The reason why he made us do ITE was because he was just tricking us into thinking we failed. The relief we all had when RDC1 and 3 smiled at us and said that they were just messing around. Those RDC's had to have a little fun with us to lessen the stress and lay back a little.
My division got a 3.2 on static so Senior Chief gave us the full card. They put a list of names for those who would be in the center of the compartment during the ITE on the board and the fishbowl and I just so happened to be on there.
My DIV got ITE'd but I was SIQ from dental pulling my teeth, lucky day.
I’m in the process of commissioning in the Air Force now, but I went through Navy Boot Camp Dec 2018-Feb 2019. The low temps that hit during that time made my experience even more unforgettable. 😂
I did as well. The winter is no joke.
agreed
I'm thinking of doing the same, how is that process? Asking because very few sailors transition to AF officer
Hahahaha you were miserable?
Winter was cake
Bruh honestly the room with the division flags as a set up actually kinda fire btw I love your videos reminds me abt my time in bootcamp. In other words a great channel to watch while the ship is in the yards and while living on the barge
Very interesting perspective on boot camp. Thanks for sharing!
Went through in 2000. We had what is called "make it rain" as a ITE. Of course back then we spent a lot of time outside on the Grinder. Looking back my RDCs did their best to go hard in the paint. I thank my RDCs for the work they put in. Div 482 August 29 2000.
Oh man ITE that takes me back, pushing the racks outboard to go to abandon ship all just because someone smudged the blackboard
I wish my bootcamp experience was as hard. Graduated in 2021, I felt as it was easy, by the end I felt like I didn’t it accomplishe anything and just normal task
Hooyah!
This channel is a godsend 🗿🙏🏽
Honestly only thing I hated about going through boot has to be the temperature changes of fall. I imagine spring was similar. But constantly having to roll or unroll the sleeves as soon as the temperature decided to be schizophrenic. Quickly roll up and pack your coat. That was fun to do multiple times in one day. Aside from that I found it to be cake. Just do what you're told and be very aware of when an RDC can see you and can't see you and it's an easy day.
Awesome thanks again for your service.
I worked with Chief Kells back about 10 years ago, in VFA 146. He was AM2 Kells back then, and he was an awesome dude. I have no idea how he is as a Chief, but I suspect he would make a really good one. Usually in an airwing squadron, the Airframers kind of treat AEs and ATs like nerds, and they are the tough mechanic dudes. Kells was always laid back and treated everyone like a brother, and I really appreciated that.
Getting Covid at bootcamp was not fun. I was there in navy bootcamp 3 months. I almost graduated but mentally couldn’t handle it. I did some things I thought I could never do. That Mile and a half was no joke. The rdc mid pt test I actually did my best. I respect those who graduated and done great things in the fleet. Being with young kids was tough in divisions. Changing divisions is rough because stenciling is not fun for the recruit joining and the recruits. Winter was brutal in Wisconsin for the two week quarantine. I’m glad they let you take some of the navy swag home with ya. Glad to have made some friends in bootcamp while I was there.
This video gives some great insight into the RDCs we all know our(recruit) prospective but we don’t know theirs. I’ve been interested in being an RDC more specifically FQA and after seeing this it shows you don’t have to be the RPOC or MA of your div to do it and do it well!
I just graduated bootcamp and my lead rdc was Chief Dovola she left mid push because she got orders but she was a great rdc and be the hell out of us
I’m about to go in US Navy Basic Training I appreciate you making this video thank you! Outstanding!
Just remember to not take it personal, and always believe you can and you will...whatever that may be. Its all mental. You got this! I hated boot because my brother div wasnt too quick to the draw a lot of times and made boot kind of hard (i was div 117 and shared baracks with 118) but looking back, it was a lot of fun and great memories.
@@SDGirl05Thank you I appreciate it
Any updates???@@Zack_Cestaro
Can you do a video on best places to live for incoming RDCs? Great video by the way.
Needed this channel
Went to bootcamp this year, it depends on your rdc’s and how they train their recruits. Some are chill and do their part but some take it too far that the rdcs in my bro division sent so many to the hospital, it was sad but it is what it is
I like your decorations, chief.
I've done a lot of work in Chicago and I'm from Texas, can confirm it's miserably cold.
I’m from the green side (many years ago l) and this was really interesting to watch.
My RDCs were extraordinary but extremely harsh on us, but they made us into proper sailors and shit we even got Battle E for it. My 2nd and 3rd RDC (both second class Petty Officers) heavily inspire me to this day, my 2nd RDC was on the Bonhomme Richard when it went down in a fire. My 1st RDC was a Senior Chief who was cool asf and always told us sea stories.
I went through Boot Camp in April 05-June 05. I remember the RDC’s saying the remember their recruits. Of course I thought it was complete BS. About a year and a half later the command I was at sent a group each week to observe a division. I got to go during Battlestations which was dope. This was before the new Battlestations with the ship. It was when you had to run around the entire base all night. Anyways one of the proctors for Battlestations was one of my RDC’s. He absolutely remembered me. I made rate and he was surprised I did it so fast. When I told him I was an IT he just laughed. All you had to do back then was get your name right and you made 3rd class as an IT. I was the Port Watch Section leader in Boot Camp. I was voluntold but I’m glad I got that position. If you had a leadership role you did not have to serve watch.
Thank you for your service!
No watch? Really?
@@diego-eu7gq that is correct. Chief told us to not put recruits with leadership positions on the watch bill. The only watch I served was the first night after graduation.
This is crazy. I was in Company 936 in 1976! We were Carson's Cavalcade, a Triple Threat company. I was in the Drum and Bugle Corps. Our CC was QMC Robert D. Carson...good guy. In those days we had 1 CC and a blue roper assistant that was a fresh boot camp graduate that was either undes or waiting for school orders.
Just got out of Bootcamp and it wasn’t bad just annoying during the time lots of hurry up and wait and shining shoes lol
Was there there from April to June and even then it was pretty chilly.
Went to Great Mistakes January 2018. Holy smokes it was COLD!!!! I'm from Texas and half the flight was leaving the state, but once a week into boot camp hit, so did blizzard after blizzard. Those on duty were voluntold to shovel snow too! My word of advice, stick together with your fellow recruits. Even if they are annoying and immature, you are all on the same team and should see each other like siblings. If you all cover each others' tracks, you will be known as the smart division and not the strong division. You'll see what that means when you get there.
I remember my rdcs. Chief Demafelix. HM1 Trottman, and BM2 Gowdy. Scary group. Especially our second RDC. He was FMF in Iraq. Scary dude
On my FEP drill inspection my division got a 4.9. Our Chief said drill flag was his number one priority. If we lost that flag it would be a bad day. When we got back to the compartment he put us on the toe line as if we were about to undergo ITE and we were worried we had a bad score. He said to grab our phone cards and he gave us a phone call for an hour. It was the best feeling ever to see my Chief happy that day. This was in 2020.
I graduated boot on 11aug23 division 208. Not that stressful, so yeah. They were real relaxed on us.
In the 90's Most Divisions had two RDC's. As far as, the cold we were extremely lucky as it was the warmest at RTC in 36 yrs. It actually was colder walking Chi town at night for liberty. In reference to the inspectors we loss color company status because 2 recruits were caught talking on their way back from medical. But believe or not we were it'd harder because some recruit turned in a cigarette found under the M-16 Gun racks. Somehow I think that was a plant or intentional but it was only 2 hours of constant calisthenics while wearing all uniforms. Talk about: "Singing in the rain" 😅 All in all, a cool experience. Loved being out on the water. Go Navy.
I feel like everyone remembers their ship date and their RDCs
I wish that was true. Only remember one of my RDC's names as it was a short name. Also peeling back almost 19 years of cobwebs.
Interesting perspective to watch and awesome iob with your explanations.
By the way, I love the layout in your background with the gaming stuff. I'm more of a Fallout/MGS/The Division fan myself, but Legend of Zelda is okay.
Thanks! Did you hear they green lit Division 3? Also, are you gonna get the remakes they are releasing for the MGS series?
I have heard about those updates. I'm currently replaying Fallout New Vegas on my PC. I played the Ultimate Edition on the PS3 along with all the DLCs in order.
With the MGS remakes, im looking into those. But it would be dope if they remade the OG Metal Gears on the MSX into modern platforms.
LoZ is okay? Ok.
@diego-eu7gq it's alright. I just never really got into it big. Just my opinion 🤷
I go to meps this Monday
My son went through RTC in late 2020 #045. I went to RTC San Diego #902 BM1 Franklin graduated Mar'84.
Things were different. We wore dungarees, white hats, leggings, and marched with non-firing M1's.
It isn't the yelling and the cussing that gets me. That will never change. What gets me is not telling potential recruits to expect. Why knock around those that cannot deal with knowing how they will really be treated and what will be expected from them. We are talking about something that will affect them for the rest of their lives, no matter how things turn out. Why start the process with a lie?
Think about it. You folks have it alot easier with your internet access to see what boot camp is about. Pre-internet was the kicker. You had to rely on a friend or a friend of a friend. Maybe a brother or father. So consider yourself very fortunate.
@man4YAWEH454 I know exactly how that felt. I enlisted in 1983 without internet access or a friend or relative that could tell me the truth. Honestly, I went in unprepared for the experience.
i had 4 rdcs in my division 413 and it was actually intimidating because at every other division i looked at they had 2-3 we had 4 almost felt like we were like "bad company" and we needed extra special attention
RDC is one of the hardest “shore duty” you can take. You have to really screw up to not make the next rank but it’s “blood money.” They are basically in boot camp for 3 years except they get to go home at night.
chief blaize and abh1 sears were the best!...especially when they found out about it being my 2nd attempt at bootcamp lol
What do you mean second attempt? What happen the first time if you don't mind me asking?
One of the things I've always wondered if you all of you get any time off after you graduate a division? After so many weeks of 14hr days & even down to 10-12hr days, I'd hope you get a week off before picking up a new division.
I like how PO Dyer said that people try to avoid them & they immediately transition to her laying into a recruit.
Yes and no. I once had a whole month and a half off in between pushes. Then i have also had 1 week off. I have heard of stories where they graduate a division on a Friday and pick up on a Monday. Really depends but usually it is worked so that you have at least a week off.
RTC is no joke. Constant rotation, 24/7 watch. Initiative & sacrifice
Graduated Sep 1st div 242
YNC1 Bolden
DC1 Gonzalez
AWS2 Walsh
Loved my boot camp experience would do it all over again! 💪
Not bad, I graduate a week before you with division 230. There were definitely fun and bad moments during boot camp and I would never forget it.
@Black_Swordsman76 oh nice I was Division 240 so I was a week after 😭😭
I was 226 😤
Would you recommend joining the military? I’m looking into either the Marines Army or Air Force and I’m 26. Thinking I need some structure and stability in my life.
Hmmm bootcamp was fun in the sun in San Diego, shout out HT1 and BT1 for teaching me a new vocabulary and making me strong. not a wog
Whats the better backing for ribbons as a RDC? magnetic or the traditional pins
Oh look! It's the extra member from Daft Punk we didn't know existed. 😧
I have a question. I will be attending graduation in mid May at Great Lakes, will it be cold around that time?
Tell Chief Roberts we are gonna make him proud
I was there in 2018
I graduated right before the temp dropped to -27 lol
When did you go through basic? I was in div 320 in 2012
18:53 I think the term you were looking for is demilled. Appreciate all these videos though.
Great Lakes RTC looks nothing like it did when I was there July 99’ holy cow it’s different
Reving in PT gear. These days that can be an RDCI.
you got some great content and i fully respect you as an RDC, i just graduated around 3 weeks ago and just everything you guys go through is amazing, the amount i've learned from my RDC's is probably some of the best lessons anyone could ever get and it is certainly an experience even for you guys to be there along side with us the whole time, just everything you RDC's do is exactly what motivated me even more to push through those 10 weeks.
Were you TG 41?
@@joelprovine7543 I don’t remember my training group number but I was in division 277
Graduation date was sep 22
We owe it to our RDC’s to give it 110% at all times.
graduated 09Nov23 div 354!!!
How do RDC's handle/treat prior service recruits?
What most people don’t understand if that nothing if personal. Yeah you may do something to piss them off, but it’s still not personal. You may get special attention from it, but it’s to serve a point.
They are doing it to prepare people for hostile environments. It’s the same with any basic, boot, recruit, police academy, fire academy. It’s to mentally show people that you will be in environments you CANT control. People in a real world environment or situation will yell at you and cuss at you and it WILL be personal to that person.
So they try to stimulate your mind so you don’t shut down, when you can’t shut down, or you may DIE! It’s that simple.
If you break down in a controlled, training environment and you can’t handle the stress and want things to stop when they actually can, you will think that if your getting shot at, or assaulted, or having to be in an environment you can’t control, the other side won’t stop because you tell them to or want them to.
Running into gunfire or a fire or a hostile environment is not fun, you have to be prepared for it. Getting shot at is not fun, shooting at someone or taking a life is not easy, been there done that, training prepares you for it.
Being questioned about random things and having to answer is to show you can think and multitask under pressure. It’s not like playing a game where you can pause it and look up something. You have to know how to handle yourself.
That’s why I don’t agree with the military going softer and having these stress cards and crap. The enemy is not going to care or sympathize with someone, they will kill them. If you need stress management in the military, don’t join the military, you become a hazard and a danger to others that need you. It’s the same with any job. If you need two people to do something, and one bails, your the one having to do it all. It’s easy when you work in a store and can take the time to handle something, but if your in a life or death situation, and someone freezes up or bails, if your LIFE on the line.
That’s what training does, it tries to throw as much at you in a controlled environment to show you can push through the stress. It doesn’t matter if you are male or females. I know females that will throw down better than men, it all depends on your mental strength.
So I was wondering because I saw a Marine drill instructor video where they were training Marines to be Drill Instructor. Did you have to relearn how to drill and march all over again and do all the normal things recruits do like making their racks correctly, folding and stowing, cleaning the head and all that? Because I saw the Marine video and they basically had them like go through a mini boot camp all over again
in the army they do
can confirm, RDC C school is like boot camp, even harder physically.
I’m wondering how the scores for the division affect the RDC’s?
I heard from the great vine that if you get a waiver for some (in my case vision; Poor Vision) but correctable once you get to bootcamp you have to go through that process again and they can deny you there for the same thing that you already received a waiver for. How true is that and should I be worried about it? I ship on Dec 14th IM SUPER EXCITED! HM
you’ll be fine don’t worry
Love the mask, I don’t know if you mentioned your rate but I am curious to what it is
Going to make a few videos, when it stops raining, about rates. I will reveal it sometime then
why do some recruits have a perched eagle on their chest?
I really like your mask
thank you. but probably gonna switch it up. It really hurts my nose
I'm shipping out Nov 2nd and have been watching you videos back to back they have really helped alot! I had a question. Since I'll be at basic during holidays do they rush us to finish before Christmas or do we just get the day off or would it just he like any other day?
I went there Thanksgiving week in 2002 and you're there through the holidays doing your normal 10 weeks, you get something called "Holiday Routine" where you just hang in the barracks and just relax and have some fellowship with your fellow recruits in the morning and you get a special meal for chow at dinner time, but other than that it's business as usual
Ship out November 1st
Bro don’t do it it’s not worth it trust me
Hey man I just graduated yesterday. I wasn’t there for a big holiday so I can’t really answer that question for you. But a piece of advice I can give is the first 3 weeks are going to be hard. Your going to want to get out if you have close family I promise your going to miss them. But once you get to week 4 it’s going to get easier I promise. Just go at it with an open mind just make yourself a routine and stick with it. If you tell yourself you hate it it’s going to be a long 10 weeks once I got to around week 6 I started to enjoy my time there and what we were doing and it just got faster before I even knew it I graduated and I promise that day is going to be amazing. For now enjoy your time before you go. And I wish you the best of luck I’ll see you out in the fleet Soon 🫡
@@boi9476It was and still is worth it for me.
My second division had new rdc’s and it was 2 chiefs and they taught us some marching drills incorrectly and I spoke up and told them it was wrong.. I obviously was respectful but I was nervous ash bc I thought I offended them but they just asked me to demonstrate for the division. lol so don’t be afraid to speak up just be respectful lol
25:48 that face 😆
Are you wearing a mask because you're a current RDC or still serving? Would there be some kind of repercussions to posting something like this? Or is it just cause you don't want your identity out which I understand
Who I am is not important. Information is important. I just want to clarify what is misconstrued
Is that a legit link poster or did your division paint that?
No, got that in Japan. But those flags underneath are from a few of my divisions
How do i get your navy sweater!!! I just joined!!!!
if you are talking about the one i wear in this video, then i got it at navychief.com
The female chief in the beginning was my rdc. Bmc dovala she was cool
I was division 907 in great lakes from nov-dec 2012 and I have to say its so weird not seeing blueberries everywhere. Also, idk if its just because they have cameras on, but my div was WAY more intense then whats being shown.
Another thing, they call it "ITE" now but back then they called it "getting beat"
Yo I was there same timeframe , 049 .
I graduated from RTC in Feb 2023. This is just for cameras. We still use the ITE. Down RDC’s were tougher than others. The ambulance came countless times to Bootcamp…seeing a sailor at the end of the hallway on the floor with a chief…seen that at least twice. When you see that you know it’s not a good thing.
I’m not going to lie but I know that TATTOO on your fingers 😂 is This guy Batman 👀
Nowhere near as cool. HOLD FAST is a common Boatswains Mate tattoo. Not a BM, but all my friends on my first ship were when i re-enlisted and they got me this tattoo as a gift
just graduated yesterday
i was a 19 Delta. My drills told us out right.. i dont wanna be here but i am.. you will make my time worth it or ill make you hurt... are we clear!
my platoon did the lease PT over alll and we won what we wanted. just not pt we hated it..
shooting best
land nav night and day best
recon best
scouts lead the way
i went through a real botcamp in 1977 these kids are weak and if this is the navy today ,we are in sad trouble
Boot camp was a joke tbh the whole 10 weeks of it, they tell you what to do, and when to do it, I honestly miss basic compared to now. RDCs are great people, and most of them spoon feed you on everything you need to know.
I remember feeling bad for the idiot recruits that volunteered to do laundry...and got to collect everyone's shit-stained skivvies because the Navy made you wear netted PT shorts over them. May as well have given us butt floss.
At 37:53. Is that the way her uniform is supposed to look? Her buttons are screaming for dear life. Body shapes change, but in this instance, she shouldn't be judging anyone on appearance.....
This brings back memories. My RDC's were okay, they did a good job training us for the most part but the inflated egos were the worst part about them. I hated having to listen to our head RDC talk about how amazing he thinks he is all day, dude was smelling his own farts for way too long.
Chief said 88 recruits I thought he said idiot recruits
Please make the face this: o3o
I heard the hardest part of joining the navy was coming out to your parents
Oh low ASVAB score still stings huh?
@@Shylade yep thats it, that’s why I didn’t wanna be part of the village people

Is that you HM2?
It is not. Sorry to disappoint
Coins, hoodie, mentioning “used to be junior enlisted” guys a goat. Doesn’t sound like a bad one tho. Much respect cheip petty occifer
Don’t join I regret it almost everyday, the navy is hell on wheels because of the leadership
Are you out now? Bc there is nothing to regret when you are out and knowing every job you hold will never be as hard as the military was. Bc at least every other job you can quit at a moments notice without a court marshal.
why hide your face then rock a chief pride hoodie lol
E-6 and below wearing Khaki blasphemous!
I agree and hate the NSU should of kept the Johnny Cash uniform.
I’m guessing you want to protect your identity which is why you don’t show your face?
Why bother hiding your face but show identifying markers like tattoos on your hands?
Dang, nothing can prepare you for this. Absolutely NOTHING.
Stop pausing the video and explaining and let it play out dang
Wtf this guys a chief
I was in USS Hopper. Ship 3
I pushed out of that ship for a year
