    /This/ is the video I wanted to see. The other one was too basic for me personally. I also use Chromecast in multiple locations, but I've been looking for a Home Assistant solution that's separate from Google. I hate being tied to Google. Having 1 Chromecast or a few of them, but I can choose one for each zone however I want would be way better.

    • @fasthowto
      @fasthowto 4 дня назад

      You're only "tied to Google" in so much as you need to use the Google home app to configure them, after that they are locally addressable and don't rely on the cloud. This is no different than many other products, such as kasa switches. In the video, I demonstrate exactly what you describe. I have 1 chromecast that plays to all zones at once, and I also have individual chromecasts per zone for different music in different rooms. I'm glad you liked the video, though! Things did not work for me as shown in your video. I plugged the Atom Lite to my PC via USB and was able to flash it and configure the wireless network successfully, however, it never showed up in the ESPHome dashboard. I was able to add the Atom Lite manually as an ESPHome integration by using it's IP address. Once added, it immediately connected to my Govee temperature sensor and have been rock solid since. I suspect this is because the way my Home Assistant and network is configured. Here is my setup in case you're interested: I run the Home Assistant OS as a VM in a Proxmox Virtual Environment. Proxmox is the host OS on a dedicated mini PC. I use TP-Link Omada gear and my network is segregated using VLANs for added security and ease of management. I have dedicated VLANs and wireless networks for my network devices (router, switches, access points), PCs, wireless clients and wireless IoT devices.

      Thank you for the suggestion! I've added that to the potential list. :) Yeah, I've read the person detection can be finicky as well. I've already found some configuration specifics that I needed to set for my August locks with just the regular BT that I covered in this video. I'll get into those in the next one. No, the solution in the video works, you've messed something else up. The virtual cable isn't stereo or mono, it just "is". I was trying to configure the remote access via duckdns from one of the tutorials online and after a short period of time while attempting to access my HA dashboard on my mac, I have it created my HA with UTM and I can start the instance on UTM and when I attempt to start HA app on the mac its just the blank screen with Yellow gear icon in bottom right corner. once I open the settings and look for the server it is pointed at the duckdns domain and it will not allow me to change it back to the previous local url even the nabucasa url that I've had before. Please help!

      Since I have no idea what tutorial you followed, AND I somewhat famously hate apple devices, I'm afraid I have nothing to offer you in terms of help. Hopefully you're able to get it sorted!

      @@fasthowto Yes thank goodness after almost 2 weeks of trying I was finally able to get things back up and running on a VMWare virtual machine container on my MacBook, It was super weird when I tried to restore from a backup it just sat at the restoring spinning status window and ran for over 10 hours without completing so I canceled the restore from backup and reattempted with the next oldest backup and it worked in less than 30 min. I was able to get everything back working as it was before I started messing with the remote server access configuration. I have since just nixed my efforts on the remote access and I'm sticking with Nabu Casa for now. Anyone can seriously mess up/destroy there HA by just trying to add a couple of nicety things to HA. And then boom its crashed and won't load you can't access it at all, and then struggle to get it back up and running as before.

      I did make a video about how to configure DuckDNS and LetsEncrypt, and it does work. If this is still something you're trying to get sorted, maybe give it a watch? Definitely do keep in mind, though, that this has nothing to do with macs or UTM, since I run HA bare-metal on a NUC (although the video does also work for HAOS VMs as well as RPis as well - not sure about containers).

    t would be helpful in the future to hover, pause then say what you were clicking on. I had to rewind several time to figure out how you got there.

    The standard If-Then blows "Choose" out of the water. It's so much easier to understand...

      DEFINITELY far easier to understand, I agree. Choose does have it's applications, but 99% of the time the exact same thing can be accomplished through creative use of If..Then. :) Thanks for watching!
