This turns out to be a pretty good series.
There are tons of interesting concepts (big and small) which I can learn from. I do some things it a bit differently, but the experience translates to my personal preference.
There is no right or wrong way.
This video finally made me sit down and get my areas and groups in order. About time...

Thank you for the kind words about the series, it really brings a smile to my face to hear that people find my content useful.
As for areas... Yeah, I really don't use those either. If I did, maybe I wouldn't have had to do this group nonsense? I don't know. For a lot of the stuff, I just have some REAL difficulty trying to figure out what "area" to say it's in. Like my whole home audio stuff - the receivers, which are what's added to home assistant - are actually in the basement. But, the individual speakers they drive, and thus the rooms where the audio controls are - are all over the house. So what area do I choose?
And lightswitches. For the exterior lights, do I say the lightswitch is in the front foyer, or the front yard? I much prefer it the way I did it, where I'm grouping the objects I'm controlling, not the devices I'm using to perform said control.
Glad to hear it motivated you to clean your stuff up. I know it took me a LONG time to finally do that...
I'm working on the last video now. It's got a few more great little tidbits in it that I hope you find useful! It should be published tomrrow.
      Thanks for watching!!
