You likely have to connect the button through the ratgdo just to get a callback to show the button is pressed.
The Ratgdo wiring instructions are really confusing.
bottom line. IMHO...if you are using home assistant, you shouldnt be using any cloud service if there are work arounds to remove all reliablity from outside sources....I mean, isnt that why we are all on HA anyway? TBH I was laughing when people started bitching. This is why I LOVE D1 MINIs. (can only find a cloud base option for a device? Well, lets make our own version of what we need and cut out the middle man!)
Yup. This is the reality we face though, now, with non-technical people getting into Home Assistant. The best we can do is attempt to educate them. Failing that, another one into the breech. :)
Not a Patreon and I have no comment about MyQ or the API besides, It's theirs and it was private. People hacked it and now they complain that the company is making is it is no longer publicly reachable? Comeon.
Now, for the RATGDO not flashing lights or beeping. What you could do is purchase your own ESP32 board and add a little Low Volt Buzzer to it. Using ESPHome configure the unit to see the Buzzer and Home Assistant goes to trigger the RATGDO device it will also send a call to the ESP32 board and power on & off your newly installed Low Volt Buzzer to make the alarm sound.
Thank you for the ideas! The beeping a light flashing are already built into the garage door opener itself, it should just be a matter of sending the correct commands to activate it. That would be preferable to adding additional equipment. However, you've given me ideas for some other things....

While I didn't have whiskey while installing it. I've had RATGDO for a few months now and love it. It is more responsive and gives more detail than the MyQ ever did. It is also instant as opposed to the MyQ Cloud device which always had a slight delay. The RATGDO as a product is superior to what MyQ provided. I did use the blue terminals and those worked as well. Not really sure what the difference was either.
It really is a great product. After seeing how instant the control is, as well as how much more data is exposed, I should have made the change sooner.
I've already modified my doorbell routine to monitor the obstruction sensor to automatically close the garage door after the guest enters. I'm sure I'll come up with more ideas of other things to do with all the new information, so keep your eyes peeled for a video about that soon as well!

@Barnez2006 thanks! It's part of a MUCH larger automation that I covered in the actionable notifications with images video, I believe. Basically, someone rings the doorbell, and I get a push notification with a snapshot of the doorbell camera so I can see who it is. Then if I press the button on the notification to let them in, it opens the garage door, and plays "come on in" over the doorbell speaker. The a push notification is sent saying the garage door was opened. But I had guests who didn't close it behind them, presumably because it opened automatically? So now I wait for there to be an obstruction (the guest walking in), then after it clears I'm waiting some number of seconds, then closing the garage door. Need to adjust that timeout, as well as account for more than one guest. It's just a beta/POC right now, but when it's all nailed down there will be a video coming. :)

I will need to hold the whiskey until after setup and installation. You make some valid points regarding MyQ and their decision, I do not disagree. IMO I wouldn’t call anyone out by name but you do you. Konnected has built onto the RATGDO open source and added the alert of a remote close to their unit. Something you may want to consider as your little one get’s bigger. I’ve seen a 3 y.o. grab and hold on to the outside of an opening door. Great video and I am excited for more.
In order: Thank you for acknowledging the points, truly. I had some concerns as I was making the video, but I've not seen anyone actually break it down and tell the whole truth about it (I'm sure someone has - I just haven't ran across it), so I figured I'd toss out my unvarnished opinion on the matter. So far, it appears to be fairly well-received, but I suppose time will tell. The video has only been active for 3.5 hours at this point. LOL
I did hide the names of the forum posters in the screenshots, but for Lewis - well, I mean, he kind of put himself out on the internet for all to watch and comment about, so I didn't feel the need to obfuscate who my comments were about - much like when I called out Reed about the KASA switches "requiring the internet", or the way I called out Alan for complaining that he couldn't open his Aqara device to replace the battery when literally all that's needed is a coin.
Should my channel keep growing, I fully expect that sooner or later I'm going to do or say something painfully dumb, and another creator will call me out for it. It happens, and when it does, I'm sure I'll deserve it. If no one ever called out anyone for anything, we'd just devolve into a free-for-all of whatever people want to say, right or wrong. Since one of my personal goals with this is education, not just entertainment - getting things correct is very important to me. But we're human, and one day someone will get me. :)
I'll have to look into the solution you mention about the closing alert. Although that wouldn't have helped in the situation you describe of a child holding onto an opening door, I can't imagine. That must have been horrifying to watch!!

The argument is bad. Chamberlain locks you out of your device to use it the way you choose. It’s not the same as using borrowing someone WiFi but the equivalent would be you bought your neighbor a WiFi access point and agreed to let you use the use the service but you use a bridge to connect instead of using your phone
First, thanks for bothering to watch the entire video. Helps me to understand exactly where you're coming from, so I appreciate that.
Second, the argument is not bad, you just don't understand and/or don't agree with it. You know what's bad, though? Your sentence structure. If you'd like to have an argument in writing, I'd suggest working on your writing skills. Otherwise, you've already lost before you've even begun.
Chamberlain doesn't "lock you out" of anything any more than do the tens of THOUSANDS of other manufacturers of other equipment out there.
The bottom line is that Chamberlain advertised a product, said what it would do, and people bought it. The product continues to do EXACTLY what Chamberlain SAID it would do, but people are still butthurt.
That's a YOU problem, NOT a Chamberlain problem.
Further, the fact that you think what I described is "borrowing" someone's wifi only further underscores your lack of understanding and your entitlement mindset. What was described in the video is THEFT of services, and from a purely technical standpoint, accessing Chamberlain's servers without permission fits the legal definition of hacking - so be thankful all they did was lock you out of it because had they been so inclined, it could have ended MUCH worse.
Very naïve. If they had users using an API that was costing them “bandwidth” or something more significant server wise, they should have offered a solution like $10/year for direct access and made it work amazing. Instead, they saw that they can charge Tesla, Ring, Amazon, etc a $300/year “partnership” for this access. Your home bridge is not going to be supported in so your argument is mute. Also, I’m sure you resold it on eBay for $200 to recoup that cost of the ratgdo. While Chamberlain has the right to be greedy and cut off smart home integrations, they are also a monopoly and should do everything they can within reason to NOT reduce functionality.
