  • Time to show off YOUR automations! You all sent me some very impressive home automation ideas that I’m so excited to show you.
    SUBMIT YOUR IDEAS
    Want me to feature your automation idea in a future video? Here’s how:
    1. Take a horizontal video showing the automation in action and explaining it.
    Videos that are well-lit and not extremely shaky are more likely to be used.
    2. Upload the video to Google Drive, RUclips, or another platform.
    Make sure we can view and download it from the link you send.
    3. In an email, send us a link to the video.
    You can also write down more info about how you set up the automation, what tech you’re using, your name for a shoutout, etc.
    4. Email to: smarthomesolver@gmail.com
    This email is only for submitting your automation ideas and setups. All other emails will not receive a response.
    Big thanks to today’s submissions: Thorstann, Lisakki, Andrew, Jacob, Jaren, George, Sonny, Josiah, Tim, and Praul Hubert

    Here's one more for ya: if you have twin curtains on one window don't get two curtain bots, just get one, and tie a string to each side to attach on the other side, with each going around a nail at the end of the curtain track on each side, respectively. Both ends must then be tied to where you would've put the second bot so that the strings from the first bot pull on the second curtain when the first one moves.

    • @BrandonLe621
      @BrandonLe621 Год назад

      so how do you open the curtain then?

    • @chrisrosenkreuz23
      @chrisrosenkreuz23 Год назад

      @@BrandonLe621 you don't, the bot does. But if it's a Switchbot, it's got a feature whereby if you yank it just a bit, it will open the curtain by itself. You probably mean how you open the second side of the curtain? The string does it, cos it's tied to the bot then goes around the nail and connects to the first chainring from the second side of the curtain.
      '=====** ======='
      the apostrophes are the nails at the end of the track, the = are the curtains and the * are the prongs of the bot.
      when one side pushes, the other goes around the nail to the other side and pulls - and vice-versa. protip: fishing wire works best

    I use my humidity sensor to detect if someone is taking a shower. Then the header put the bathroom heater to 24º in 5 minutes timers as long as the humidity still over 75-80%. Once the humidity goes down the header stops asking for heat. Setting the desired temp make it perfectly useful for summer and winter as the bathroom is only heated if needed.

    Smart plugs are also great for 3d printers. Some printers have big fans that run constantly even if the printer isn't working, so using octo print, you can set a timer through home assistant to take the estimated print time, add 30 minutes (for estimation error + cooldown) and set the plug to turn off at that time. It's great.

    The amount of cloud dependent automations is simply stunning. Why would anyone rely on so much internet bound stuff. I know internet malfunctions are rare, but they do happen once of twice a year for most people with standard non-business internet connections. My ISP has the bad habit of updating the firmware multiple times per year and they do fail sometimes requiring a router reboot.
    (not to mention, the amount of money you have to shell out to keep it functional, setting up a local HA on a raspberry pi would be paid for within a year or so)

    For octoprint, I've also made sure that the robo vacuum cannot start if a 3d printing job is running, so that it won't bump into the table the printer is at. Home assistant will also shutdown the power to the printer 30min after the print if there was no further activity.

    I got interested in home automation after seeing a video of a disabled girl using an eye gaze communucation device to talk to alexa and control lights, fans, etc. My daughter is quadriplegic and non verbal so of course I wanted to give her some control over her environment. I started putting smart plugs on everything, an echo in every room, etc. Last year she got her communication device and she still needs lots of practice, but she's learning to use it for alexa.
    Aside from that, I use the sound detection routine to trigger an alert to my phone if anything in her room beeps. I can hear some of her machines throughout the house, but not all, and then of course if I step outside for any reason, I can know exactly what's going on inside. This is also helpful if I have to leave her at home with someone else. I can of course watch her cameras, but it's good to know when her machines alarm so I can call and assist if they need help. Basically my whole house is set up to make caring for her easier.

    Some bad ass ideas. I really want to get into home assistant but it worries me for complication for the family once I teach myself to use it. Running Google and Alexa (for device to voice triggers into the GH) right now with multiple "works with Google" devices. Happy so far but it seems home assistant would really open up alot of doors.

    Great video and great ideas. Can you do a step by step Android NFC video. I don't have a samsung smarthings hub is there a way to do home automations without one.

    I have a fun automation where I say hey google “lift off” and she replies: “yes commander undocking ship in 3,2,1… undocking” after that she turns off room light and turns on all my led lights, a salt lamp and my tv. Its fun and gets me in the mood to play space games.

    That's really great, thanks for sharing. To the gentleman who created the music scanning system, what is the NFC reader you are using ? Looking forward to use one to give NFC tokens for access control the house. Thanks !

    I decided that telling Google or Alexa to turn off all my lights was so normal since that is build it. I simply setup a routine called, "Execute Order 66" which does the same thing but excludes some lights that I want to always stay on.

    I like the idea with the playstation controller. I was thinking if it's possible to do on the tv remote but not with a bulky sensor, maybe works with a NFC tag? 🤔

    I have a great automation idea but can't honestly make it myself.The ideas is that If you have a gate that leads to you're house having a camera that can detect If the mailman or an amazon delivery drive is trying to give you you're mail and or package. It might exist but Im not to sure.
