    I built a house after this change and was only given chamberlain as an option for garage door opener. I bought a BlaQ controller to attach for it, and NEVER installed the My Q hub at all. So it’s never seen the internet and Chamberlain can’t change anything on it, and I can control it just fine through my smart home hub.

    Weird because I just replaced my old Chamberlain garage door opener with MyQ connected to Apple HomeKit. It worked up until today when I replaced it with the B6713T. • @TyDaSpace
      @TyDaSpace 5 месяцев назад +3

      RATGDO is your solution. I replaced in both my house and it's worked even better than the MyQ - I didn't think opening the door with voice could be faster than pressing the button but the response is instant because it is local and not cloud. I have the install video on my page if you are interested.
      Unfortunately, there are aren't a lot of other options from Chambalein but luckily they cannot control how you choose to modify your unit. I removed all connections of myQ to my garage door so they don't push a software update that breaks it again. Although the camera doesn't work but it was trash anyways and I had a separate homekit camera installed in my garage.

    Apple is successful with its proprietary technology because people are willing to build smart homes around important devices like smartphones and iPads and Macs. Same for Alexa and Google Assistant devices. Chamberlain miscalculated because folks will not want to build their smart home around a garage door. Bad decision Chamberlain.

    I totally agree the pegged comment on not buying Chamberlain or Liftmaster because of this. One of the coolest features of a new car is syncing the Homelink garage door opener buttons in the car. They now have made this so problematic, that you would have to by a separate receiver, where it was previously built in and still is with Genie. Further like most Americans I can not stand pay for subscription services, it should be enough that I bought your product, but to actually reduce compatibility and make you pay for is mind numbing.

  • @gnic76

    I would definitely consider other brands if I was looking and I'd be mad if I bought something that worked for free, then they later changed it to a subscription or paywall. All these companies going to subscription base services just for a few extra bells and whistles suck, they hold that over you if you buy their product.
    Other home automation companies have gone that route, brick the devices if you don't toe line and pay every month.

    It isn't even just that you have to open multiple apps. It's more that your opener control (as with any of these other proprietary home automation products) are constantly calling up to their company. You should be able to control everything *LOCALLY*, and the manufacturer should NEVER touch your systems. But that goes against the trend towards centralized control.

After that it hasn't worked with Alexa so Instead of relying on these selfish companies that don't want to play nice with others. @@sosgds Absolutely, it's a Security 2.0+ 41D7675 Liftmaster. As for RATGDO the interface is what you want it to be. That's the beauty of Home assistant is that I can pull all kinds of telemetry, control things I never even had access to in MyQ like turning on/off remotes, utilizing the occupancy and obstruction sensors to do other things and choose how much the door should open in % value. I can also see number of bound remotes and total number of openings through the lifetime of the motor. You can build widgets and different UI cards to integrate this into whatever dashboard you're using.
      All of this in an air gapped environment, with no 3rd party services or a connection to the cloud. I mean I don't really think it gets better than this. Full control, no cloud telemetry, your data being siphoned or god forbid a company closes their doors and takes their servers offline.

      Great question. You still get video notifications without a subscription. The app is good with pushing notifications.

    I’m glad my new home came with Guardian openers. Now I won’t have to purchase from that evil corporation and can just hookup my Tailwind interface. That saves me a boatload of money.

    I am one of those unfortunate 20,000+ MyQ Chamberlain users left in the cold. Are there any alternative garage door openers? I am ready to remove and replace the locally working Chamberlain with another brand.

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  7 месяцев назад +1

      That is a fair decision. It's sad when these companies offer free features and services just to later charge them to you down the road.
      I hope this gives LiftMaster the opportunity to do something for their current MyQ customers.

      Look at RATGDO. It might be too complicated for most but might be great for many others.

    MyQ is trash anyway. Use your garage door opener with RATGDO or Meross instead. Way better than MyQ.

    The comparison to Apple is appropriate. However, that move only caused Linux users to explode in numbers.

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  7 месяцев назад

      That is a very good point!
      There are so many that are upset about this move. I wonder who will answer the call in the garage door industry to bring out a strong competitor to both MyQ and Aladdin connect.

    Great video! Thanks for posting it.
    I'm in the market for a new garage door opener. I currently have a 2007 Craftsman 139.53918D. I was initially looking for an opener with built-in Apple HomeKit integration. But since Chamberlain discontinued third-party MyQ access, and others may follow, I'm now thinking about getting a basic but super reliable garage door opener and a separate third-party HomeKit-compatible controller like the Tailwind iQ3.
    What basic garage door opener do you recommend for a 2007 Clopay 16' x 7' builder-grade insulated garage door and is there a 3rd party HomeKit compatible controller you prefer? Thanks!

      Hello! Thank you for your feedback!
      And thank you for sharing your situation. The Tailwind should still be able to work with the LiftMaster openers. Their product serves as a bridge as you say. Thus you can have the confidence to use it with any of the GDOs from the Chamberlain corp.
      AS for which 3rd party bridge I do not have a preference. I feel they all offer a way to work around the issue MyQ has now created.
      Might I suggest the LiftMaster 84504R. It offers all the bells and whistles you might want in a GDO?

    I’m done with MyQ. It was great in the beginning when tech hobbyists were building their own. Since then it seems others got better as MyQ steadily got worse. Just got a new truck with CarPlay. Oh great! (sarcasm) Got a trial use of MyQ on my CarPlay screen. Could press a button on the screen to open and close my garage doors. In fact, it would pop up before pulling up my driveway prompting me to open the door, EXCEPT it didn’t! Then, if I wanted to continue to do this I had to pay a subscription! Well, I’m moving over to Tailwind that does way more than MyQ! Tech companies that don’t care about consumers, don’t deserve our money.
