    Apple is successful with its proprietary technology because people are willing to build smart homes around important devices like smartphones and iPads and Macs. Same for Alexa and Google Assistant devices. Chamberlain miscalculated because folks will not want to build their smart home around a garage door. Bad decision Chamberlain.

    I totally agree the pegged comment on not buying Chamberlain or Liftmaster because of this. One of the coolest features of a new car is syncing the Homelink garage door opener buttons in the car. They now have made this so problematic, that you would have to by a separate receiver, where it was previously built in and still is with Genie. Further like most Americans I can not stand pay for subscription services, it should be enough that I bought your product, but to actually reduce compatibility and make you pay for is mind numbing.

    Won't buy another Chamberlain/Liftmaster product, and will trash their products on every social media platform I'm on every chance I get. They were happy to sell me the $70 Home Bridge, but they broke that functionality as well, even though they said they didn't. I called their support, and they said they no longer support the Apple Home integration even through the Home Bridge.

All these companies going to subscription base services just for a few extra bells and whistles suck, they hold that over you if you buy their product.

    Thankfully the MyQ syncs with Ring for the garage door opener feature and for Amazon Key deliveries. I will be buying a Ring stick-up camera to use as my video feed. I already got the magnetic base on Amazon. It's pointless to pay for the MyQ cloud video storage - especially, since it doesn't integrate with the rest of my Smart Home ecosystem.

      How does the interface of RATGDO differ from MyQ?

    • @theshazman
      @theshazman 2 месяца назад +1

      @@sosgds Absolutely, it's a Security 2.0+ 41D7675 Liftmaster. As for RATGDO the interface is what you want it to be. That's the beauty of Home assistant is that I can pull all kinds of telemetry, control things I never even had access to in MyQ like turning on/off remotes, utilizing the occupancy and obstruction sensors to do other things and choose how much the door should open in % value. I can also see number of bound remotes and total number of openings through the lifetime of the motor. You can build widgets and different UI cards to integrate this into whatever dashboard you're using.
      All of this in an air gapped environment, with no 3rd party services or a connection to the cloud. I mean I don't really think it gets better than this. Full control, no cloud telemetry, your data being siphoned or god forbid a company closes their doors and takes their servers offline.

    Weird because I just replaced my old Chamberlain garage door opener with MyQ connected to Apple HomeKit. It worked up until today when I replaced it with the B6713T. I cant seem to find a way to add it to HomeKit, so i guess i now know why. Kind of annoyed, but at least I can still monitor my door with the MyQ app.

    • @TyDaSpace
      @TyDaSpace 2 месяца назад +2

      RATGDO is your solution. I replaced in both my house and it's worked even better than the MyQ - I didn't think opening the door with voice could be faster than pressing the button but the response is instant because it is local and not cloud. I have the install video on my page if you are interested.
      Unfortunately, there are aren't a lot of other options from Chambalein but luckily they cannot control how you choose to modify your unit. I removed all connections of myQ to my garage door so they don't push a software update that breaks it again. Although the camera doesn't work but it was trash anyways and I had a separate homekit camera installed in my garage.

    I've got 6 people in my house. Activities all week. It was a security and convenience feature for us to say "Alexa, close the garage door" from anywhere in the house. I had scheduled in Alexa to close it automatically at 8PM and at midnight, so I knew regardless of what happened, my door would be closed when we went to bed. Similarly, I've got Alexa locking my Ford car doors just in case we forgot.
    This was a very dumb move by Chamberlain. We want more control - more interoperability with our smart home, not less.

    My Buddy purchased a MyQ controller about a month ago. It was on sale for around $20. No wonder! It’s now useless and he can’t take it back. I purchased HomeKit compatible Meross controllers for my Wayne Dalton and Genie wall-mount door openers. Integrated perfectly, VERY convenient. Lastly, Tesla vehicles have MyQ integration built in, one just needs to link their MyQ account. I wonder how this will be (has been) affected?

    I have a 19 year old craftsman 1/2hp, picked up nexx nxg-100 then a nxg-200 and they worked perfect with alexa until there security issue. After that it hasn't worked with Alexa so Instead of relying on these selfish companies that don't want to play nice with others. I went a different route and made my own with a ESP32 coded with esphome, and controlled via home assistant. I have all the same functions as I did with the Nexx devices and more. I can have it auto open when I get home, and auto close at a specific time at night if I forget to close the door. I also made a parking light strip with a arduino which I plan to have the esp32 also control. I just haven't had the time to get it all coded up yet. But the best part is that it isn't cloud based and all local.
    As my 1/2hp Craftsman is on its last leg, and chamberlain is pulling a apple move with MyQ. Looks like I will be looking at getting a new Craftsman or Genie.

    Many people in the home automation realm have been talking about this after Chamberlain shutdown their api to their MyQ platform. We found several work arounds to their api changes until they finally removed it altogether. We were told the reason chamberlain removed it was overloading on their service. Wait.. it's not like we used the api to control garage door openers from other brands, we used it only on chamberlain door openers. So basically the same call to the api from services like HA instead of MyQ. Utterly childish. I like my chamberlain garage door opener, but when it gives up the ghost, I will move to another brand. I'm not much of a chamberlain/liftmaster fan anymore but I've always loved the myq app, really nice UI and really easy to set up and get working. But killing off 3rd party apps just doesn't make sense to me, and the statement from the CTO saying they did it to "continue to provide myq users with the best possible experience" makes it seem like they're downplaying it, especially giving the 0.2% figure. 0.2% isn't much but 20,000 people is a lot, they're so focused on making as much money as possible you'd think they keep the 3rd party support to appeal to those people go make more profit.
