- Опубликовано: 25 июл 2023
- In this video, I cover how to add BlueIris to Home Assistant, how to add camera feeds and alert images to the dashboard, and how to configure motion alerts and send alert images to HA via MQTT. In addition, I cover how to install Mosquitto broker, and then how to create automations to take actions based on the motion alerts.

Hey man, amazingly concise video. Thank you so much! This saved me a ton of time setting up automation.
@@justinbell5771 sweet, glad to hear it!! Thanks for watching!
Great videos, thanks
I have tried adding it but at the point of adding the integration all I get is "Config flow could not be loaded: 500 Internal Server Error Server got itself in trouble"
It's very frustrating...
Thanks for the video
Is it possible to set 2 motion in one camera in blue Iris( one for only person, and another one for all) through Blue Iris NVR integration
Yes, you would just create another on alert action. If you wanted to know which one triggered, though, you'd have to manually create another MQTT motion sensor and customize the topic to match.
Again, Great video! Now that I have that working can you do one on how to trigger a camera in Blue Iris from a physical motion sensor through home assistant? It seems like it should be relatively easy to do but I haven't quite cracked the code yet.
I'm not sure I understand what you're asking.. Could you rephrase?
On page 216 of the Blue Iris manual in the MQTT section it mentions "The software responds to these messages received: BlueIris/admin camera=cam1&trigger … for example" I'd like to know how to use this in home assistant to trigger a camera or maybe use MQTT to somehow set a DIO input bit... I'm just trying to get away from using visual triggers on a couple of cameras that give me allot of false triggers by using PIR sensors that I already have integrated in home assistant to trigger a recording event. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks again for making great videos!@@fasthowto
Great video! Anyone know why the status of the camera in home assistant would change from away to home on an alert instead of clear to motion detected?
Thank you for the kind words! Not sure exactly what you mean, but the status of the camera isn't where motion detections are indicated in HA.. ? There's a separate motion detection sensor.
Thanks for your reply. I do see all the separate sensors for each camera in home assistant but for some reason the away/home sensor in home assistant would switch when Blue Iris detected motion and the clear/motion detected sensor on home assistant wouldn't do anything ever... no matter what I did... lots of looking over settings, messing with spacing on the mqtt inputs (not sure how to use mqtt yet), examining RUclips videos for stuff I may have missed, restarting stuff, I messed around for a few hours with it last night and finally posted a comment to see what others have experienced and when to bed. Lone behold I woke up this morning to find it working, still not sure what the problem was, hopefully it keeps working. Thanks again!@@fasthowto
I had some more time to mess with this issue and I found out that if I right click on a camera feed in Blue Iris and click "trigger now" all of the other alerts I have set work fine (send a push notification, send an email) but in home assistant I always get away/home sensor changing. If I actually walk in front of a camera to trigger it, everything works fine. I guess it works when it matters so that's all I need.
Is it impossible to get push notifications from Blue Iris to your phone through a VPN. Have scoured the Internet and seems as though the only options for push notifications are either going through Home Assistant and Nabu Casa or Port Forwarding. Any thoughts. Just found your channel. Love the videos! Keep it up.
Thanks! Dunno about getting notifications directly from BI to phone. I send all the BI stuff to HA and then do all my notifying from there since I can include other things and take more intelligent actions that way. I prefer to think of HA as my single source of intelligence/management, and everything else (BI, sensors, plex, monitors, media players, etc) as data points/things to manage. Easier for me if all (or as much as possible) of the intelligence is in one spot. For me, HA is that spot.
Thank you for the kind words, and thanks for watching!
I am setting up notifications now using your video. Super helpful! What is the typical delay between when BI picks up motion/person till you get the push notification with an image?
@@FrankyB295 I don't know that I've ever timed it, but it's pretty quick. Maybe 1.5 - 2 seconds? There's a lot that has to take place on BI... It has to recognize there's motion, then send it to deepstack to be analyzed, and then IF an object I specified is identified it kicks an mqtt alert to HA, then HA has to send the notification message. So.. A lot is going to depend on network latency, especially if you're not home and the notification is sent via cellular networks.
I'm glad you're enjoying the video! Check out the one I just published a few minutes ago - you can configure TTS messages to your phone as well in case you want something that will alert you more imemdiately than just a text notification.
Thanks for watching!!
@@fasthowto that is good to know. So if it takes longer, then likely there is something incorrect with my settings that needs to be adjusted.
@@FrankyB295 possibly. Check in BI to see how low it takes deepstack to correctly identify an object on your system. If you're using the cpu version instead of the GPU version, it may be quite a bit slower, especially depending on the number of cameras and simultaneous alerts it has to process. On my old system with just cpu, I sometimes saw times in excess of 6-7 seconds just for BI/DS to handle everything, and THEN it finally kicked to HA..
I followed your steps (I think) and can get the MQTT message { "type": "MOTION_A", "trigger": "ON" } on my HA instance but it will not trigger the cameras motion entity, any tips?
Do the motion entities exist? If not, enable them under the configuration on the Blue Iris integration. They should just work automagically then.
@@fasthowto yes they were created when i logged into BI via the integration
Not sure then.. Are you sure you're receiving the mqtt messages? Check with mqtt Explorer or a similar app
@@fasthowto yes
@@j03y__I'm not sure then, mine just worked. Since it's not something I've had to attempt to fix, I'm not sure what to do with it. I'd check on the HA forum or perhaps the BI forum. Sorry I don't have an answer for you!
Please recommend me a youtube channel about Blue Iris for the limited and stupid. So I can understand everything... Your channel is arrogant and full of superiority. To the next level. Please, where can I find out how to get it?
Lol
This is hardly "ultimate"
Looking forward to learning more from your better version!
