I don’t even have a garage but I couldn’t pass up a fRYEday. I can see where this could be helpful with other automations as well.
Thank you!! Yeah, I made this video about the garage door since I saw someone asking about it, but I use zone automations for all sorts of stuff! Turn lights on when I get home if it's after dark so I'm not stumbling around looking for lightswitches or tripping over shoes (or pets!), automatically lock doors when I leave the house, enable/disable port forwarding on my firewall so the companion app can communicate with HA, trigger push notifications when someone arrives at the grocery store - the sky is the limit. Just have to define your zone, and then dream up what you want it to do. I plan to use it to arm/disarm the home security system too - as soon as I finish getting that put together. I have several videos about home security that are in various stages of completion right now that will be coming up - stuff like using the count of devices on my guest wireless to determine if the alarm should be armed or not. I sort of touched on part of it in a previous video where I discussed automatically turning off the lights, stereo, and TV when we leave the house; the security system stuff will just be added to that. I'm sure there's a lot more stuff I haven't thought of yet, too. :)

@@fasthowto I think the same can be done for CarPlay. I haven't really expanded the automation beyond that, selfish mostly. Still trying to figure out how to convince my wife to put the companion app on her phone.

@@paulrjohnston thanks! No, she is android as well - OMG I can't imagine being married to an iPhone user - she just has an older vehicle without all the fancy stuff. It's like a 2014 or something. I actually just got my first vehicle with android auto last year. We tend to keep vehicles for quite a while.
@fasthowto now that MYQ and HA are not working together what integration are you using to open your garage door automatically.
I'm using the same solution that I showed in the video.

MyQ is removing 3rd party access. I restored my HA backup to a new server (NUC) and the MyQ integration failed. I uninstalled and tried to reinstall. It fails authentication. This video will soon me useless.
No, this video won't be useless. I suggest you watch the video again, but pay closer attention this time. The MyQ integration is not being used. I've been railing about this on the forums for over a year, but just like you - no one paid attention, and now you're all paying the price. Cloud solutions are NEVER the answer, and you (and everyone else) are finding out why - the hard way.
I just ordered a ratgdo. MyQ's balky cloud services can go pound sand!
