    MY LORD! I am so interested in Home Assistant but I was scared to buy and try because it seemed to complicated. And then I found your video! Thank you! The best explanation there is online is yours!

    Great job; as one that learns slowly I am really happy to see you doing videos for us! So many thing change all the time and most RUclips videos are out of date.

    Excellent and well explained video. As an "old" rookie, about to dive into Home Assistant, looking forward to more of these and seeing how you approach automation in your new house. About to move in January. Your experience will get me there faster!! Old dogs, ...!

      The add-on will definitely make it much easier. It can be a bit slow, as you might have noticed it will throw errors as you type. I should have called them out, because a lot of times they will clear after a few seconds.

    THANK YOU for the redo making this simple and straightforward. Help'd me get a automation up and running fast after being away from this for 6 months.
    I'd so like to see a 20,000 ft view of the entities and their relationship with all the "other" components in HA in a block diagram form with links between pieces. Know of anything like that?

    Years ago, I set up Home Assistant and later acquired a couple of Athom plugs from their series. I was thrilled by the ability to monitor the current, power, and voltage through these devices.
    Fast forward to today, after catching up on your videos, I decided to purchase the Athom Human Presence Sensor. While I encountered some difficulties in assigning a static IP address, I persisted and eventually succeeded in setting it up.
    Now, I'm eager to test the motion detection feature by receiving notifications on my cellphone via text messages. Do you have a tutorial video that demonstrates how to accomplish this task? If not, and if you would like a fresh cup of mocha java, please let me know. I can see it in your future.
    Level of my expertise does not even measure on the newbie scale.

    If your security system disarms itself then it must have been broken.
    But your video is nice.

      @SlackerLabs  Год назад

      Ha. Nah, I just built it so we don't have to tell it when to arm and disarm. It just understands the context and arms or disarms without us thinking.

    Can you please help me? I am trying to get into garden lighting with HA. I just wonder what is the best protocol to start with : thread or zigbee 3.0 based ? Thank you for your guidance !

    Many of my automations start with Device as the trigger, in lieu of State or Number. Is there a reason to use State or Number instead of Device?

    • @SlackerLabs
      @SlackerLabs  Год назад

      If you are doing everything in the UI I think device works well. Using it manually in yaml is more complicated than the other options. But that could be that I am
      More familiar with the other options so they are muscle memory now.

    You were using multiple VS Code extensions but only mentioned one of them. Looks like you had a Home Assistant extension and a indentation highlighting extension. People who use VS Code on their computer and a Samba share won’t have them unless they install them.

    Is it correct to state, Triggers are always in OR configuration. Eg trigger 1 OR trigger 2 OR etc.... ?

    • @SlackerLabs
      @SlackerLabs  Год назад

      Correct. An automation will fire if any one of the triggers is true.

      @@SlackerLabs taa, thought so. Fixing several of my automation too. Using your (timers vid) etc. I have two motion sensors in my kitchen, and one shelly25 with two relays to switch lights. Nutting out the best way to use the sensors and one common lighting switch. Still a newbie to HAOS.

      @@SlackerLabs i make an automation and hit save and it takes me back to the automation location and nothing is there.
      Are you using a VM for yours?.. there seem to be tabs that exist in a friends HA that isnt there for mine… i see where some have a “file editor” where as i dont

    • @SlackerLabs
      @SlackerLabs  Год назад

      @@dnvr12 When you hit save it should be prompting you to provide a name for your automation. if its not doing that I am not sure whats up. But that prolly means its not actually saving it.
      Some things in HA are hidden unless you have advance mode enabled for your user. So if you dont do have that, you can do that in your user profile. Just clock on your user icon in the bottom left and scroll down to and flip the toggled for advance mode.
      Things like file editor is an add-on that you can add from the HA add-on store that allows you to edit the YAML files directly in the browser. It's not needed unless you want that ability.

    I am new to Home Assistant and looking at old RUclips of Home Assistant installs is very confusing.
    If you have done any Home Assistant RUclips videos and included Yaml edit and it is no longer necessary with the new release 2023.7.
    Please redo the RUclips video.
    Love your channel, just not a joiner.
    Thanks, NewBe
