Nice job, Jeff. You have given me lots of ideas and homework!
Thank you, and I'm glad to hear it! There's always something to do. You'll like the next episode - I made some more changes to how I'm handling groups of lights for rooms. The code is much cleaner now, and I don't have to add new entities in 5 places!
For the kiddo's meds you could create a timer for each med that starts a count down from the standard 6 hours dosing time and send an alert when it's over. On the dashboard use a template to show helpful text based off of the state of the timer. You can have a long press of a button restart the timer and you could slap a couple smart buttons in the cabinet with the meds to be pushed when the meds are given and maybe send an alert as well. There is also an add on that I cannot remember the name of that allows you to show slider bars to indicate the status of a timer that looked cool.
Oooh, those are great ideas! Thank you, and thanks for watching!
Great Jobs.Thank you for sharing
You are most welcome, and thank you for watching!
HA! NICE SHIRT! ;)
Thank you, and thanks for watching!! :)
Hit the like button before I watch it 😊
Thank you!!
Why do you not like smart bulbs? Is it the whole; "someone turned off the light switch and made my bulb dumb" thing?
That's a bit of an oversimplification, but basically. The bigger issue is that smart bulbs don't function the same as traditional bulbs, which makes things problematic for guests. Most people who don't have a smart house expect that when you flip a lightswitch, a light turns on. They aren't looking for a button on the nightstand, they aren't looking for a tablet on the wall, and they certainly don't have the companion app on their phone... Because of this, I try to stay away from them as much as I can, but there are certain applications where they unfortunately cannot be avoided. :(
@@fasthowto you might take a look at inovelli smart switches - both Zigbee and Z-Wave. It has Smart bulb mode while allowing a switch to bwhave like a regular switch. They also have a ton of other features, including a color selectable notification bar.
That only helps if the light you're trying to control is already controlled with a switch, AND if that thing does not have more than 1 bulb that you want to be able control independently, AND if there's a neutral wire in the box where the switch would go. LOL
I'm still against smart bulbs as a general statement - I'd never put them in "regular" fixtures that are hardwired to power, like ceiling lights and chandeliers and soforth. But for other things, like floor lamps that have multiple bulbs that each have their own switch, and desk lamps that just plug into the wall, they are a necessary evil.
On the plus side, all of them save 1 are in private areas of the house - my office, the master suite, the nursery.. The only ones I have to worry about with guests are the floor lamp in the parlor. I have that one automated to turn on at sunset and turn off at midnight, and there's an Aqara button on the coffee table as well, so.. It's really only the babysitter that we have to worry about with that one. Most other guests don't wander through the house turning lights on and off.
@@fasthowto the other option are varios Lutron systems (Caseta, RA2, RA3, etc.). With Lutron you can put a Pico remote anywhere to create a switch/ dimmer. But, as you usually say, you do you! And each, his own.
As I mentioned, I already have a remote - and for WAY less money than lutron. I'm not a millionaire! 😂😂
