Great album and band. They are playing live again and they kick ass. Just great
@@holspa so i heard! Hopefully something new coming from them!
When you start to explore this topic, you start to realize how many of these bands there were. I'll throw out a few: Airkraft-"In The Red" Signal-"Loud&Clear" De Mont-"Body Language Roxus-"Nightstreet" King Kobra-"Thrill Of A Lifetime" Slik Toxik-"Doin' The Nasty" The band with Steve Whiteman from Kix- Funny Money
Yeah, I didn't put King Kobra as they had a third album right after Thrill of a Lifetime... the 3 latest ones are quite far away in between III... Slik Toxic did have "irrelevant" right after it... but nothing since (i think)... the rest I will have to check out as i am not that familiar with them... Thanks for watching and commenting!
Its unfortunate that as big as that record became, in the end she was basically screwed buy Atlantic records. The contract she signed forced her to repay millions in expenses. As a result, after all the awards she brought in over the years, she was still basically broke.
Yeah, i read up on that while doing this episode and researching a few items... seems she got her first huge royalty cheque in the 2000s... (I may have the years wrong, but it was quite a long time after her first album came out)... and to make matters worse, i found out she is(was?) paralyzed in the neck and back... she can't even sit down, and needs help to walk... :( Thanks for watching and commenting!
The Femme Fatale CD is on my "to get" list. I must check out Sven Gali & Roxy Blue. Have heard of both, but never heard anything by them. That Madam X CD Monstrosity is pretty damn good. Roxy Petrucci's sister Maxine is a seriously good guitarist. Sebastian Bach was with them between '86 & '88, so after the debut album. Must also check out that Tora Tora album, love the debut.
The Femme Fatale one is “ok”…. Sven Gali is good but different…. And yeah, ive seen footage of Madam X and Maxine can definitely play! I wonder if she’s done anything else? I figured Bach came in after the first album…. But wasnt 100% certain…. The Tora Tora one is good but nowhere near the debut!
@@offthecharts2272 ALL KILLER NO FILLER💄🤘
Second femme fatale album one more for the road
@@ronbaker8383 Isn't that what I said? Or did I say something else again? LOL
Didn't realise she had 6 albums! Presume the rest are pop rock. I'd say your review would be higher at 7 than mine would. Mine would be closer to 5 given the overall album quality.
Yeah, I didnt realise she had 6 albums either until recently... I only knew of the first two back then!
I have this album somewhere, it is a guilty pleasure. Black Velvet is a phenomenal song, it was a HUGE hit over here. I'm gonna listen to your review, because I can't remember how the rest of the songs go.
So it went all the way to Ireland and a huge hit also! I'm learning LOTS about her chart success with the comments here! :)
@@offthecharts2272 It blew the radio up that year, and appeared on every soft rock compilation for about 10 years afterwards! Huge hit.
@ i was just reading up ok her just now…. Apparently she is now paralyzed in the back and neck???
@@offthecharts2272 Oh no!? That's awful news.
@@davebrowne8252 Yeah... apparently since 2010-11? All due to a chiropractor...
Good episodes, kingdom come …. On your face…funny!
Hehehehe... yeah, it was in front of me all this time... and we realised it about a month or two ago... :)
Black Velvet was a very popular song in New Zealand at the time. Not sure how the other singles from the albums did, I bought that as a single at the time. Its still played on the radio.
You own it as a 45 inch??? So it was a hit worldwide then I guess eh?
Yeah it was all over radio here. Probably still gets airplay. My favorite song is Kickstart My Heart.
@ because you thought it was a Motley Crue cover? 😂😋
@@offthecharts2272 Just the single for " Black Velvet " is all I own. Even the mums loved that song.
@ ❤️🤘🏻
Awesome show guys! Great picks, I’m strictly sticking with what I consider Hair Metal, off the top of my head and in no real order except Skids is my 1 debut hair metal album. 1.Skid Row ST 2.Winger ST 3.Tesla: Mechanical Resonance 4.Cinderella: Night Songs 5.LA Guns: ST 6.Warrant: DRFSR 8.Poison: Look What the Cat Dragged In 9. Motley Crue: Too Fast for Love 10: W.A.S.P. ST
Yip! Those are solid debut albums also! There are so many good ones! :)
I don’t know how big of a hit Black Velvet was in the States but a friend of mine who was a bartender, used to play this song and sing a karaoke version of it. I actually bought this whole album digitally because of that song. Solid album front to back.
Hehehehehehe! Ok I'm glad it was a hit somewhere else than Canada! :) And yes, very good album... i'm curious to hear how her other albums sound like...
@ I’ve never ventured past that one album of hers. She has a great voice. Is she still active do you know?
@@JakesMusicState I've also never ventured past this album... but she apparently IS/WAS paralyzed in the neck and back and hasn't performed live since 2015 due to this.... (from what i can find online)
Dan doesn't like the Beatlesque influence. That ingredient was deliberate for the Saigon Kick sound, and it comes from Bieler, and that is also the common element with King's X.
I LOVE the Beatles... i just found SK to have too much of it... and you are correct with the King's X reference also (which I love) :)
I think the schism between Matt and Jason was that Jason wanted to be all out, no holds barred musical - any genre, and Matt wanted to keep the sound more tightly rock/metal. I prefer the Matt era live, but I prefer the Bieler approach in the studio, and as others have said, Devil in the Details is an amazing album. There really are no bad Saigon Kick albums - I have their entire catalog, Matt Kramer's solo album and most of Jason's solo material.
I have never heard of Matt's solo career of Jason either... I guess I have some stuff to check out now! :)
Great album, great band - even the post Matt years - unfortunately Bieler has TDS and frankly, he is one of the strangest people in person - something off about him. I was out with a backup singer from a major band (not going to name drop) and we had seen Bieler's acoustic show, and he was so creepy after the show that she asked me to figure out how to ditch him. Objectively, I thought he was a strange dude. Not what I expected. But great music, and Bieler is certainly talented. EDIT: For fans, I liked Matt Kramer's solo album too. Worth checking out. And, I've seen them 3 times, including on the Lizard tour. Great band live.
Interesting bit of info here... thanks for that! I googled TDS but couldnt find anything... I assume you are NOT referring to "Trump Derangement Syndrome"? :) Thats the only thing that stood out... so what is TDS? And weird that Bieler is actually weird in real life too... as soon as SK's later discography is issues on vinyl, Imma gonna get it!
You guys hit a couple of my favorites - Badlands for sure (and for fans of Badlands, they have 3 albums - the 3rd one is worth having), Dangerous Toys was a great pick, RATT and Motley Crue, also great picks. I would have put Salty Dog's debut album in there.
Thank you for the nice comments! Yeah, I have all 3 Badlands albums - the last one Dusk only on CD though... sounds GREAT for a demo... As for Salty Dog, I have it but it never really clicked with me... and I know LOTS of people love it! :) Thanks for stopping by, watching and commenting!
Thanks for this video. Black Velvet is familiar song to me but rest of the album is new. I must buy this. Couple of songs reminds me a little bit of Lee Aaron songs from her album "Body Rock". Merry Christmas!
No problem! Are you in the States? or Somewhere else? This album was HUGELY popular back in the day in Canada, so I'm wondering if it was popular anywhere else... And yes, some songs are similar to Lee Aaron.. but not the voice! Merry Christmas to you too and thanks for stopping by!
Here in Ohio, Black Velvet was the most overplayed song everywhere. It was replayed so much you grew to hate it, sadly. Actually still listen to this album but skip over that song 90% of the time....I have a rating request for you, if you have it. Speaking of obscure bands that have been nearly forgotten, Baby Animals debut is also one of my favorite albums with a lead female vocal. And she was absolutely fantastic. Her name slips my mind at the moment without having it the credits in reach. Merry Christmas, and thank you for this channel.
Ah ok, so it was popular in the States also... I was not aware of that... Hmmmm, I never heard of Baby Animals... I shall have to go check out and put in my wishlist! :) If I'm looking at Discogs, it's the Australian band with front woman Suze Demarchi? Just want to make sure I got the correct band! LOL Merry Christmas to you too and thank YOU for the nice comments and watching this channel!
@offthecharts2272 yes, that's the one
@@davebolles4131 Perfect thanks! Added to my wishlist! :)
Some great choices there (RATT! KickAxe!) but disappointed not to see the greatest Van Halen album that’s not from Van Halen on this list - “Now Hear This” by Hellanbach, probably the greatest album of all time (despite being a massive VH ripoff smothered in incredible VH-style guitar)
Thanks for stopping by! I will have to add that "Hellanbach" album to my wishlist... I've heard the name, and think it's a great play on words but never listened to them! Thanks for the suggestion! :)
A lot of bands that I thought were "one and done" eventually came back after a several-decades hiatus to record more music, like Heaven's Edge and Roxy Blue.

Four Horsemen, Jetboy, Buckcherry, Frehley's Comet, Lillian Axe, Jackyl, XYZ, Motley Crue, Tesla, and Enuff Z'Nuff are my Top 10, not necessarily in that order.
Oh man! I forgot Enuff Z'nuff! Love that one! :) Frehley's Comet also i own, but I like others more than the first one (I know I'm in the minority for that one)... Thanks for watching and commenting! :)

Thanks for watching and commenting Dave! :) Of your list, the only one I couldn't get into was "Circus of Power"... maybe it aged well? But I remember not liking them at all back then... The rest I'm ok with... :) I will need to check out "Slaveraider" as I've heard the name, but never heard them... and it's quite up there in your ranking... Oh, and I remember you mentionning Swedish Erotica but haven't had a chance to listen to yet... Yeah, the Celtic pronounced with a S or a K sound has been a subject of discussion with many of my friends... LOL (just because of the Basketball team the Boston Celtics) :)
@@offthecharts2272 Ah I liked the sound Circus Of Power had on their debut. The video to Motor had me hooked back in the day. Their follow-ups were far less impressive. Slaveraider's debut is also superior to their other albums, but they are all good. Great vid, thanks again. Enjoy the holidays!

@@carldone6845 GREAT album! And yeah, Im in Canada and know about the MYOFist…. I understand why they had to change but don’t understand the signification of the MYO part…. 🤷🏻♂️😋
D-A-D don't have any songs in Danish as far as I know. I don't think anyone in Denmark has any problems with them singing in English and not in Danish. Lots of Danish bands sing in English like Pretty Maids, Dizzy Mizz Lizzy, Skagarack, Kashmir, and Invocator to name a few, but then there are others who sing exclusively in Danish like TV-2, Gnags, and Malurt plus a host of black metal bands. There was an interesting case of a 90s alt rock band called Inside The Whale who switched from English to Danish and had a big hit song after that. There's a doom metal band called Hadron who sing in English but also have a couple of songs in Danish. There was also a band called Nephew who blend Danish and English as an artistic choice. Anyway, I personally don't care what language bands sing in. I don't mind lyrics in languages I don't understand or English sung in foreign accents. No big deal to me. In fact, I find it interesting to hear how English is used creatively by non-native speakers. Anyway, this is interesting because, basically, the topic of this video is language ideology (I work at a university as an Associate Professor of English Linguistics, and one of my colleagues actually does research on language ideology). In a Danish context, English is considered a "cool" language, so I think a lot of people sing in English because of that and not so much to appeal to the North American market. I think the situations in Sweden and Norway are very similar.
THANK YOU!! This is exactly the type of comment and response I was looking for! :) I forgot about Pretty Maids (which I have)... Thank you for confirming D-A-D never sang Danish... I will go check out the rest of the other bands you mentionned... But yeah, that's what I was going for... I never heard the reason where ppl think english is a "cool" language... great point! Never thought of it that way! I just assumed they all sang english as it was the best way to get recognised worldwide! Thanks again for watching and commenting this awesome comment... you nailed it!

CONTEST STILL OPEN! I WILL POST HERE WHEN CLOSED!
And thank you for the shoutout and sorry I gave you such a lackluster assignment!
LOL All good! I went from listening to it only once to now 5-6 times, so thank you for the suggestion! :)
You’re not going to hurt my feelings Dan! I could tell you to listen to my favorite band and you could tell me, “ohh my god, I thought they were trash” and I wouldn’t be bothered. I have the original Rock Candy reissue. And I bought it because of the cover, I like the cover. Grungy mermaid. I haven’t listened to this album in years but I was a teenager when I found this album, and it just hit me right. Do you consider Skid Row sleaze rock?
LOL! Phew! :) See, i find the music MUCH better than the album cover! :) (PS: huge shoutout to Rock Candy for reissuing awesome CDs with bonus tracks!) As a teen, I only remember hearing the name Sea Hags... but never saw a video of them... Skid Row? Nahhh... I find it more Hard Rock *verging* on metal maybe?
Be sleezy! I wanted that album back then, I can't remember the song they used to play though.
I am slowly getting into the sleaze... more to come!
Blackie pulled some straight magic outta Bob Kulick on his track "The Idol". . easily in my top 100 guitar arrangements.
@@heartonmysleeves4668 oh man! That song is amazing eh? Loooove love love it! I still remember my reaction when I first saw the video for it! 😀. Thanks for stopping by! 🤘🏻
@@offthecharts2272 YT algo brought me a WASP 'ballads' playlist one day. Whole new appreciation for Blackie. His knack for getting great guitarists rivals Ozzy.
@@heartonmysleeves4668 Yeah, WASP make great ballads (or ballad-ish) songs... like Forever Free (my fave) and Hold On to my Heart... :)
Herricane Alice was a great “one and done” band.
@@troyevans3724 great album yes! It was mentionned on my friend’s channel but technically not a one and done band…. They released and EP in 2020 called “Gotta Be Real” which Im unsure if its an official release or just demos?
@@offthecharts2272I didn’t know that, thanks. Another “one and done” that comes to mind is Signal with then, Mark Free, on vocals.
@ lol. NP! As for Signal, I dont own it but my friend mentioned it! Thats with Mark or Marcie Free, right?
@@offthecharts2272yes. Signal was right before Mark/Marcie would join Unruly Child and release one of the greatest rock albums to date.
Vague memories... it doesn't sound like I really need to add it to my collection.
It's not bad... it's just I'm not a Sleaze Metal kinda guy... for me, it was also vaguely familiar as I only knew the name... :)
It's actually not a bad album. I got it because I wanted to add it to my collection, but "Half the Way Valley" is definitely the highlight of the album.
@@davebrowne8252 Yeah, what he said! :)
just looked up saints and sinners on spotify, they had it and yes sounds great! made a playlist! thanks!
@@rodcrispo5859 that’s what I’m here for! 😋
