    HOT TAKE !. you are a brave man Dan. I do truely love " Seventh Son " and what happened before. However , in the modern era I do like " Empire In The Clouds ", " The Wicker Man " and like you said at least 3-4 tracks from each album. " Senjutsu " more than 3-4 . I don't think they suck after 1988 its just the deeper tracks take more listening time. I will let you know after seeing them live in September if my views will change. By the way its just Your Age!.😁

    Brave New World is a great album, the 4 after seventh son were poor. I also enjoy AMOLAD (Didn’t enjoy the tour as they played the album in it’s entirety before you could take the album in). Really enjoy Senjutsu and Final Frontier also. Still a great live band too 🤘

      So they litterally played AMOLAD on the WHOLE tour??? Not just here in Canada? You'd wonder if they noticed ppl not being as rowdy/cheering when they played the whole album... you said it correct, an album needs to "set in" for it to be played live as a whole... bad decision (imo) Thanks for stopping by!

    For me, I'd say '86, but then Somewhere In Time set the bar quite high. When Seventh Son came out I loved it. Now, it's my least revisited. Same sound as Somewhere but the songs aren't quite at the same level. That said, I do go as far as Fear Of The Dark. I've tried but can't get into anything after. They do have a lot of really fun b-sides at least on through to the X Factor, too.

    Brave New World was a decent album but every other release can not reach the hight's of the first eight Maiden recordings. Senjutsu is by far the waekest. Getting rid of Derek Riggs was also a mistake because Eddie is an important part of Maiden, I'd say he's 50% of their success. People bought Maiden records just because of the excellent album covers. At A Matter Of Life And Death, Eddie can only be seen in the background. I wonder what that's all about? Ed must be recognizable over a large area.

    • @offthecharts2272
      @offthecharts2272 21 час назад

      I never thought of it that way (regarding the artwork)... I will admit the artwork helped me buy those albums as a teen... now I just buy them out of force of habit (to complete collections) LOL As for Derek Riggs, I LOVED him... but wasn't his artwork getting a little worse near No Prayer? At one point, it seemed he could only draw Eddie from the front... sideways, he looked horrible (But, I do not know the real reason they got rid of Derek Riggs... I guess I can look it up) :) Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

    I hate having to agree with you but, you're absolutely right! After the 80s pretty much Maden went downhill hard. It's like you said, they just don't write memorable songs anymore. Where's the Run to the Hills, where's the Trooper, where's the 2 Minutes to Midnight of the current ERA ? There's just no hits anymore coming from them. The albums are not bad, they're just not great! I think they lost their spark when Martin Birch left. I think Kevin Shirley is a horrible producer. He doesn't clue them in like he should. They've become just another self-centered, deluded, Spinal Tap like case in point. I'm glad they're still around, I still get excited when they put out a new album and I always buy it, but I really wish they go back to the days of glory and I just can't understand why they can't at least try and make something memorable?!? Ugh...

    The only great and memorable post-1988 album for me is THE X FACTOR. It's not about the spectacular songs, but the atmosphere, the emotion and the darkness. Unbelievable album. Also, they toured in Europe with My Dying Bride. Their album "The Angel And The Dark River" influenced Steve Harris A LOT for a songwriting and direction on The X Factor. So much that Steve asked My Dying Bride to join them on tour. Check that album to understand what was actually going on on The X Factor.

    One would add two more albums even though you could end it in 1988. But I think the good run ended in 1992. I really like No Prayer For The Dying and Fear Of The Dark, so that's where I would end it.

    'No Prayer for the Dying' is one of my all time favorite Maiden albums and it definitely doesn't suck. Songs like 'Tailgunner' and 'Run Silent Run Deep' are more than solid, while the title track is a sheer masterpiece. From a musical, compositional and lyrical standpoint the title track is as great as anything this band has ever released (Steve Harris as a songwriting genius). Furthermore, the title track of their next album (Fear of the Dark) is also brilliant. Just because their music stopped being as 'heavy' as it used to be, it doesn't mean that it was no longer good. Was there a change in sound after Seventh Son? Yes there was, and fans usually don't like the change, I can understand that. But change is not a criteria for anything, whether good or bad. You either accept it or you don't...(by the way, for me personally, everything that came after the Fear of the Dark album is something I can happily live without)
