    Hey mate did you see the cairns marathon starting times. Marathon and half marathon start together which is fine like Brisbane but the 10km is starting 15 mins later start. Surely it will take longer than 15mins to get all the Marathon categories through the starting gate. The coarse is going to be packed with runners 🏃‍♀️ 😳 Congrats on getting an entry into the Sydney marathon

    • @runningwithaj
      @runningwithaj 3 дня назад

      Yeah the scheduler for Cairns Marathon really does need to take a good hard look at things. Every year there is a bottleneck of some sort. It gets frustrating pushing through the 10k runners. There are a lot less runners at Cairns than Brisbane. I think it usually only takes about 5 minutes to get through.

      @runningwithaj Are you starting with the Elites or A grade? I am going to try and be up towards the front of the A graders (😅😂 like all good A graders sitting up the front of the class)

      @logsie3918 no I’m doing everything to control myself. I’ll be in the A wave but a fews steps back from the line. Last time I lined up at the front I ran a 3:50 first k and blew apart at 18k. Not repeating that one!

    • @runningwithaj
      @runningwithaj 25 дней назад

      Don't feel guilty, think about the purpose of the workout. If it's a fartlek, where you are trying to build fatigue and still hit a pace when fatigued, then you need to jog or float the rests. If it's an interval, where you are trying to hit a pace that is quite fast, then walk the rests. it's all about meeting the purpose of your workout. It took me a long time to get that through my head. I don't have a garmin so can't show you exactly, but here's a link to a video on how to set up the workouts: ruclips.net/video/HgNNRnvEa7A/видео.html

    I was hoping for bit of a quieter week at work also to help recover from the Brisbane half marathon last Sunday where I broke into a sub 1hr40mins with a time of 1hr37mins but it wasn't to be, in 4 days at work I have done 93.5kms 😕 I got a great training session in on Tuesday 1km on 1km off and was holding 410-420pace nicely which I was super happy with. I was thinking this week I will try and increase my interval training from 8kms up to 10kms like you are doing, though the long run was not as comfortable today. I put it down to the massive week at work doing big set ups all week. Are you recovering with a good cooldown? And using a foam roller, massage gun etc to help recovery? It definitely helps me

    • @runningwithaj
      @runningwithaj 25 дней назад

      Wow that’s a lot of ks to be covering at work! It must make it really hard to recover and get the training in. That’s the big difference between you and I with training. I get nothing from work so have to do a lot more easy ks. I’m doing my best to get a good cool down in. I try to finish my workouts about 2-3k from home so I’m forced to do it. I already feel guilty for not being home so end up running straight home. I’m really not good at the recovery 1%ers. I know it would help but i’m slack! Now you’ve gone 1:37, what are you aiming for in Cairns?

    • @logsie3918
      @logsie3918 25 дней назад

      @runningwithaj I would love to see if I could knock over a 1:35 on a flater track Haha I still can't believe I am in the 1:30s I thought I might get there by my last Half marathon in Townsville I hope you get into the Elite category with a sub 1:30 🤜🤛 your chasing

    Also I was going to ask the Brisbane Marathon has announced that both the Half and Full Marathon are starting at the sametime which I thought was a bit strange for such a large race, but have you got any tips to start the race off as I am a bit concerned with not getting off to a great rhythm/start. I will start off with the 1hr 40min pacer so hopefully they can punch a hole through the masses 😂😂

    • @runningwithaj
      @runningwithaj Месяц назад

      You’ll be surprised by how quickly it opens up at 1:40 pace. Looking at last year’s results, there will only be about 300-400 people ahead of you. Stick with the pacer and it’ll open up very quickly. The first few minutes may be slow, but it’ll be open after a k or so.

  • @logsie3918
    @logsie3918 Месяц назад

    Are you watching your heart rate for the easy runs? Zone 2? I picked up some new Clifton 9s for my work shoes what I was wearing had 420 and 440kms on but the compaction between the new and old ones was approximately 1cm Crazy 🤪.

    • @runningwithaj
      @runningwithaj Месяц назад

      That’s my big issue with Hokas. I find that they’re super comfy until they die. I can still remember the step when each of my pairs has died. I always go from jogging in a comfy shoe to feeling the road in one step. I keep an eye on my HR but it’s not the ultimate guide for me anymore. I run up hills so there’s no stopping it from going up. On my recovery runs it doesn’t hit 130. On my general easy days, it sits around 130.

    What a well organised event it was 👍🏻 I definitely had the same hiccup as you at the 5klm point, I was feeling super strong running about 10seconds quicker per klm than usual , once I got off the grass back into the path for my next loop a wave off lactic build up hit my legs and I battled to hang on , also my Garmin Fenix 7 registered 10.3klm total which I think weakened my mindset abit at the end as I was in the hurt locker

    • @runningwithaj
      @runningwithaj 2 месяца назад

    There was a great post from Killian Journet a few months ago and he was commenting on an endurance athlete saying that the work that gets you to the end of an event isn't the preceding days or weeks, it's the months and years before. In a training log, he could point to a time 2yrs prior where the gain was made. So whilst your disappointed the training block didn't end the way you wanted, it's ALL the work you've done to this point that will set you up for the amazing race (we know) that you will have this weekend. Be kind to yourself and know that for many, watching you work and train is inspiring and that not every run or every race can be brilliant. Sometimes, shit just don't work out!

Rest from social interaction, planning, organizing, worrying, stress, etc. so this week I started to incorporate a 5 to 10 minute meditation after my runs. Nice work on the training! We've all been there on the mental hurdles, hope you find your way thru it sooner rather than later!

    There is no substitute for stamina. Long slow runs will build it.

    Different problems here on the other side of the globe; just had my second pair of daily trainers studded. A lot of ice this vinter so I need spikes all the time. Not complaining.........

      Mate I cannot believe that you’re running in the ice and snow. I used to hate running in layers and a beanie. Spiking up must be tricky. I’d be complaining a lot!

    I started from virtually zero weekly mileage due to an injury. I'm as slow as they come. After I was able to "survive" a half marathon training session" I bought 2 pairs, NB RC Elite & Adidas Adios Pro 2. Very different numbers. The heart rate was approx 10bpm lower over all distances of training in my NB vs my "cheapies" and even the adidas. I never ran more than 10km in my adidas so I'm comparing apples to oranges for things beyond 10km. Some shoes work better than others. For marathon...the NB's suit me for running economy and the difference was dramatic...not only the 10bpm lower heart rate on average...my speed turned up a lot (that could be due to physical improvement of course due to how early in the training cycle I was). I read many reviews and though most of them are written by "serious runners" not overweight and very slow like myself, they did help me identify the "best cabon shoe for a beginner" which was the NB. And I completed my first official marathon & half marathon run (2 weeks apart)...significantly slower than back in my youth when I was too impatient to run much beyond 10km.

    Well done mate - 65K is a solid week. Good luck with the physio! And I thought the shoe shots were powerful.

      Thanks mate. I worked for a good 17 seconds to get those shots

      @@runningwithaj jesus think how good they would've been if you'd have taken 18 or 19 seconds
