  • Training for a marathon is like fighting a gorilla. You don't fight until you're tired, you fight until the gorilla is tried. H. Keddell, 2018.

    Looking forward to it👍. Unfortunately as years go by injuries is more and more a major factor regarding achieving new goals. I am at an age (64) where I can not take anything for granted anymore, but I still need the goals to keep me motivated. The way to avoid injuries is to learn more about how to prevent them, and how to be aware of the signals from the body. Good RUclips-channels such as yours is one of the best tool for achieving that. So that is one of my goals for the year; follow your channel (among some others)☺

      That's where I think I'm headed towards. If I'm honest with myself, I haven't been kind to my body in the past so I will probably start to struggle after 40. I think hearing to the body is the easy bit, but having the confidence to listening to them and taking the time off early. Thanks for watching!

    You've got me thinking about My Goals. Fairly modest, after all I'm now 37 years now, (only have a Birthday each 2nd year) All the best with yours.

      That was the idea! Thanks for the awesome feedback. I'm trying to hold off the realisation that they need to be more modest. Good luck!

    I'm hoping to get a half marathon PB and complete my first marathon this year. It's important to me to level up each year especially since I only started running 2 years ago. I like your mindset and approach. Good luck on your goals.

      I'm of a similar mindset. I want to level up by running faster while I can. Once the time for getting faster is gone, I'll have to start redefining what levelling up looks like. You've still got plenty of room to grow in your running seeing as you're only new to the game. Enjoy the process!

    Knowing your ‘why’ is so important. Otherwise, why bother? Me, finish Tarawera, do the 70.3. Why? Because I like to do things that challenge me and make me uncomfortable. I am terrified of public speaking and am nervous about meeting new people. So I have a job that requires me to meet new people and I took on the RD role at Parkrun. I want to be the best version of myself I can be. And awesome to see you at PR last week.

      Awesome to catch up with you guys too! I'll be splitting time between the two parkruns a little more this year. I know it seems obvious but I became to focussed on next steps and getting it done. Focussing on the why has helped me zero in on what's important. Right now, it's running strong, so that in a month's time I can start running fast!

      Why do you want to start running again?

    Like you in 2023 I want to get more races under my belt this year. I had a crappy 2022 and 2023 due to ill health due to a stomach infection picked up in a triathlon swim in 2022. This year I want to run fast too. Mate you could 100% smash 90min in a half.
    This year for me is sub 3 for the marathon.

      @runningwithaj  9 месяцев назад

      Sub 3 marathon is a massive target. So many things have to go right. I look forward to seeing how you tackle it. I think I could definitely do the 90, I just need to put myself in a position to do so. Good luck with your training.

    to be honest, i do not understand what the changes in your mindset and the way you define your goals .....
    my what: i live the life of a professional runner with no coach, no races, no sponsors and no training. I just run with a lifelong comittment to happy and and healthy moving through nature
    why? Being 69, living alone in a log cabin at the edge of a village in the hill conutry of central Germany, this lifestyle of healthy ( plant based wholefood ) and happy ( free without plans or regulations) walking, hiking and running keeps me connected to nature with piece in my heart

    • @runningwithaj
      @runningwithaj  9 месяцев назад +1

      The major difference is that, previously, I would focus on what the goal was and start action planning to achieve it. This meant I was more single-minded about being "on track" rather than what I wanted to achieve and more importantly, why. I'm finding that focussing what and why leads me to being more adaptable and gets me closer to my goals.
      I love your goals, it sounds like my ideal retirement!
