  • I tried to do something this week. The weather and my stupid health threw other ideas at me.
Training for a marathon is like fighting a gorilla. You don't fight until you're tired, you fight until the gorilla is tried. H. Keddell, 2018.

There was a great post from Killian Journet a few months ago and he was commenting on an endurance athlete saying that the work that gets you to the end of an event isn't the preceding days or weeks, it's the months and years before. In a training log, he could point to a time 2yrs prior where the gain was made. So whilst your disappointed the training block didn't end the way you wanted, it's ALL the work you've done to this point that will set you up for the amazing race (we know) that you will have this weekend. Be kind to yourself and know that for many, watching you work and train is inspiring and that not every run or every race can be brilliant. Sometimes, shit just don't work out!

Spot on. That's why I keep putting this out there. It's important to acknowledge the insecurities a lot of us go through along the way. I think I'm ready to go. I really appreciate the kind words. I'm keen as for Sunday!

Wise decision to step back from the training plan when feeling like that. I think we have all been there, but need to be reminded of listening to our bodies now and then anyway. Keep up the good work and good luck with the next week!

Thanks mate. It’s stupid that I ignore rest! Definitely the right choice.
