Once during a period of some financial struggle I took all the seats and stuff out, started using the jsw as a truck for hire to haul random stuff, and at night I slept quite comfortably in the back on a foldable twin-sized bed. I was really grateful to be able to do all of that with such an efficient and cool car.

Wouldn't the smaller tires register more rotations? I doubt you're getting accurate results without recalibrating the speedo/odo.

I had an old 1998 Mercedes A Class. That among other nice features had the possibility of removing all seats, except the driver seat. Just by operating a couple levers. Even the passenger seat was so easy to remove. And they were HEAVY all of them. Probably not so easy for you guys on that side of the pond. To beat that goal easily. Would be to get your hands on a PSA 1.6 liter diesel. Specially pre DPF (and crap) models. Those can be easily found on Peugeot, Citroen, Ford, Mazda, Volvo... Very smooth engines, very economical a pleasure to drive. In comparison the VW TDI feels like a odd tractor! You could hit that goal easily. ;-)

Forgive me but how does one say, "They fit" and immediately state that the tires rub and block venting/cooling ? Makes traction worse and adds unnecessary weight/stress/wear to parts. I have a touareg 2,5 tdi on springs and also i want to put 265 70 17 with spacers 2cm , do you think it will touch the plastic or something else ?

If putting the car in drive with the front bolted and the rear unbolted doesn't work you will have to take a torch to the park mounted to the rear diff

It's easier to hold it in a v shape and put the rear in first.

Meanwhile in Europe we get 75MPG with 5 adults and luggage :P

You do not have to drill out any rivets. There are torque screws all over the side of the door which you can remove

From the Philippines here. I own a 2004 3.2 vr6 gasoline touareg. It had a lot of issues: vaccum tubes, purge valve, air cleaner connecting pipe, broken head light backets, valve cover oil leak, driver side door lock and power window mechanism, headlight bulbs, outer tail lights, worn out rotors and brake pads. All filters and fluids replaced. Fan belt replaced. Space saver tire replaced with conventional tire. After all is said and done, touareg is a confortable, sturdy and safe car. It's different from the mainstream SUV's. Just maintain it properly and it will serve you well.

The 1.9 or 2.0 TDI came with timing belt and I've seen quite a few that didn't have a timing belt changed, something to be looked at when buying.

I definitely agree with you on the lack of memory function for the driving seat, I am twice as big as my wife, it's a total pain having to readjust the seat all the time. Not mad on the hand break either, steering is a bit wishy washy if I were being honest but other than that it's great. Early models had exceptional build quality.

Just chiming back in. I bought one in 2020 during the pandemic: I’ve owned mine for almost four years and no problems. I've added a winch mount from eurowise and euro wise off road control arms. I have the 12K Apex winch with synthetic rope. I've done it basic upgrades to headlight bulbs and I added SICK LED foglights and interior LED bright white daylight bulbs 6500kw. The maintenance I did was the full timing and water pump and the spark plugs coils oil and filter and all new fluids and new tires 265/65R/18 Pirelli All Terrain Scorpion Plus. I also added the redarc brake controller and the OEM hitch I pulled off a junkyard touareg for $100 with all the parts and grabbed comfort module, ecu, lights, etc while I was at it! I get ~18mpg highway, 13 mpg in city. It's awesome and has been hitting trails and highways from British Columbia to California!!! I bought with 80K miles and now it's at 135K miles!!!!! NO ISSUES. I upgraded the brakes as well. I decided to wait on the bigger wheels and tires and the eurowise drop and lift because I've had no issues with terrain. I replaced the hatch struts and the buttons inside and it’s like brand new. My interior was awesome and the woman who garaged it only put ONE oil change worth of miles on it a year. She had impeccable service history from VW. San Jose touaregs are the best!! I even found the spacers for the rounded stock carrier bars for my audi S4 snowboard attachments. $13 for OEM part. I’m eyeing 17” Wheels for some fat KO2 mud terrains for summer. I added car play and had a full inspection by VW and nothing that I can’t do myself. Just takes time and patience. I have an audi s4 six speed for my daily ripper… so I can afford a weekend or two off mountain and in city Everything works though, windows roll up and down with the key, and the automatic electronic keyless entry works all over too! The Rear locking diff works, the air suspension works perfectly, the electronic dampening works perfect. The hill assist works. The air compressor under the seat works. The garage opener works. The liquor bottle chiller in the glove box works. Ultimate off road and city sleeper! NEXT UP: Adding a secondary battery and a sleek JL audio 10w6 into the left side area in the trunk so it'll preserve the space and feel factory. The bad: I was keyed in Vancouver BC, probably with a knife, down the whole driver side so I need to fix that.

Great video mate, im doing this with the stands what a mission.... here in nz cars are over priced found a touareg and how great is the car. im heavy footed cant help that and we tow a caravan.. just wondering how the replacement went? i have seen a new support bracket (aftermarket) that seems to solve the issue

Just finished the job i found if you zip tie the hose flat it helps so much getting it all in there just cut the zip tie at the end but other than that it was fairly simple
