Grandma did actually "slackpack" though there wasn't a term for it. A couple of times Trail Angels helped her by shuttling her pack for her, albeit over short distances, while she made certain to hike every white blaze - at least that's the legend as presented in the book.

Thank you for this tip! Someone posted that they won't buy my favorite running shoes because they don't have the extra heel lock holes, and researching that led me here.

Can't believe Rockfish Gap Outfitters has closed. I live an hour and a half south of there but my gf and i would often take a drive to Waynesboro and swing by. I remember buying my first Gortex shell there prior to an elk hunt in Colorado way back in 92. Also bought a Zip stove and fleece jacket. A lot of thru hikers will miss that place. I agree with an early poster, ya'll should come to Damascus Trail days May 17th-19th

Day hiking some sections of the AT this week along skyline drive. Trying to get my legs back after nearly dying in October. Hoping to section hike the AT as much as possible in the next couple years, then a thru hike once I get my bills paid off completely and a little money saved. Great to see you two back in youtube!

Hello from Australia! So lovely to see you both out hiking again! I’d probably pack out a salad roll or similar for lunch on the first day and add in some fresh food for the first couple of days depending on day time temps, weight etc. but apples are good and cherry tomatoes and baby cucumbers. Have fun guys!!

My favorite breakfast is Milk & cereal, can eat it for first & second breakfast, 1.25 cup cereal + 1/4 cup NIDO (powdered milk), add water, shake, instant milk & cereal, can add raisins, coconut, or freeze dried fruit to cereal. Here is Imitation Biscuits & Gravy: 1 package Ramen (broken up in small pieces, don't use seasoning packet) + Bacon pieces + 1/2 packet Pioneer Country Gravy + 1 cup boiling water. I buy Bacon pieces in condiment aisle of grocery store and goes well with things like mash potatoes, grits, ramen, salads. This sounds weird but is really good, put some Peanut Butter + sliced Salami on a tortilla (or bagel), sounds weird but is really good, high fat and gives instant energy.

It's interesting how resupplys have gotten more modern since when I started hiking. I see a lot more Peak meals, Backpacker's Pantry, Mountain House, and drinks like Starbucks Via (I was skeptical, but Via is closer to "real" coffee than any other instant coffee I've tried on the trail). Also the electrolyte chews and the caffeinated water enhancers like MiO are things that I've added, too. It's looking a lot different than the old school days of SPAM singles, Knorr sides, mac 'n cheese, and gorp.
