Oh! I almost forgot. Your correct the AT will be different this year, already is, lol. Millions of people up and down the east coast have been cooped up for 15 months or more. And, as more people get vaccinated more people are coming out to the trails close by. More than I have seen since 2013 when I started doing doing stuff on the AT. And, it isn't just the AT because as the AT gets packed they are going to other trails to get away from people and be in the wilderness. For example, the Tuscarora Trail that goes from PA to the Shenandoahs in VA I usually see 4-5 people the whole year because it is a much more rugged trail than the AT. This year it is only May and I have seen 100s. It really gets crowded on weekends and holidays. Just a heads up for your mental health....

The Rocks that sparkle have Mica in them. I live in Georgia. The roads have crushed mice in them So all the roads sparkle. I love it.

We were pretty tired from our 23 mile average in the hot weather, we ended up getting off trail to do a flip flop from NJ but it didn’t work out due to super cold rain and gear problems, wishing you all the best

I live in Georgia and just hiked the GA section last week. So many wildflowers were in bloom, including the native Flame Azalea you showed. I kept thinking how most thru hikers never know what Georgia really looks like at it’s best. 😀

The shiny rock is because it contains mica - a mineral that is used extensively in cosmetics to give products a glow-y and shimmer-y appearance.
(In 2018 Hawk did Springer to Neels Gap in one day, and his vlog was photo-bombed by a bear mother and cub duo!)

Glittery rocks (usually) is because of mica crystals. Rock is probably schist.
