The Crown 60 is excellent and often on sale. The Nylofume bags are great liners and are perfect as well.
Giving away that gear was definitely a huge morale boost for those folks. Much respect
For real. Getting the best gear you can always feels good, but someone blessing you with the thing you needed... that has a special beauty to it. That was fun to watch.
Yeah, regardless of whether you got those items from sponsorships or partnerships, the way you went about giving them away by asking what they're not happy with - and then you had that item appear - that was cool.
Mounting the microphone on a cat hole trowel is awesome
Microphone on a Bogler trowel. It fits the thru-hiker aesthetic perfectly.
🤣🤣🤣
That cracked me up but I didn’t know if anyone else noticed or cared
LoL yeah lets hope it's unused or touched that is.
Not to sound soppy but sponsorship or not, seeing how you gift these people your gear that they genuinely needed.. it’s warmed my heart.
Absolutely 😊
Ya, that was super cool.
Definitely.
Yes. I get real tired of sponsored videos (by everyone), but this was very cool!
The guy that sleeps on the mat cut in half, was the first hiker I ever helped to trail in Pearisburg. So good to see him!
This was the best video in a while. All your stuff is great but this was so real and authentic. I'd love to have heard what the first thing people got rid of was.
Oooo…that’s a great question. Wish I would have thought of that. Next time.
@@MyLifeOutdoors keep up the good work. The candid nature of this really resonates.. stay dry out there
@@MyLifeOutdoors Go to Mountain Crossing, the discarded gear is there lol! Agree, best episode in a long time. You need a t shirt “Interview for free stuff” and pull a beach cart with your channel signs on the side and your sponsors logo’s.
Planing trips to hiker box would be cool too. I ve heard of many struggling hikers find exactly what they need others discarded. I'd also love to see what resupply are flying off the shelf(from those hotspot places everybody stops off at... mountain house lasagna does not sell, but breakfast biscuts are in demand.)
That's excellent! I'd be that guy, for sure - wanting to be prepared and err on the side of caution, and carrying a bunch of stuff I end up giving away, or never packing again.
Best trail-days report ever. Only wish it was longer. Fearless. Hope to see you at PCT-Days.
Agreed. I could watch an hour of this.
@@tallyrc Me too. Why don't more people cover this stuff? Don't they also hold an unofficial event on the PCT? I would LOVE to see coverage of that as well!
I came for the thumbnail, I stayed for the trowel mic! Lol
Reading my mind
Yeah, I was thinking "Who wants to talk to your trowel?"
OMG I Literally believe you changed this guy's hike BIG TIME from a go home failure to a long enjoyable hike. Fantastic. Great trail magic. Bless you.
I love that you’re giving away gear. I’m under the impression you have a pile of gear large enough to outfit about 10 people. What a great opportunity to pass some of it along.
I've never been hiking, camping, or bushcrafting, and I probably never will. I enjoy seeing the gear and gadgets used on the trail and in camp. I'm a subscriber to this channel and watch every episode as soon as it posts. This interview format has been the most enjoyable one yet. Maybe it could be amended to make it longer and reposted? It was very big and gracious of Papa Sarge and Freckles to give My Life Outdoors the $10 admittance fee.
That was cool and I love that you included folks who aren't waiting to get the "right" great before going out and are instead taking it on with bare bones kit, what they could get their hands on with a limited budget, and a mindset for challenge and adventure.
The trowel mic LMBO
I did a section hike on the AT, Asheville area to Harpers Ferry. I dont have time to do it all in one go. I used a Nemo Hornet 2 person tent, pair of black diamond treking poles, had a spare ultra light rainfly you could put up between the poles, I hiked with a big agnes camp chair cause I like a dry place to sit, raincoat, sunshirt, hat, toakes 750ml, jetboil, found a french press atachment that fits with the toakes to make coffee, started with a sawyer and loathed how long it took and switched to a pump system half way through, Klymit sleeping pad which popped halfway and I switched out for a Big Agnes. Was fun, got to enjoy 28 days on the trail.
Just imagine how much these small things mean to these hikers. A stove that means he wont need fuel as often, a power bank meaning they might get to keep in touch with their family longer or can acrually use their headlamp. Kind of life changing when living on so little.
Hiking Santa!
Really diggin the mic handle…no pun intended. 😂 Accidentally crashed one of your shots…you appeared busy so didn’t interrupt to chat. Wicked good segment! Love what you do.
What a great guy for helping ppl out.
This is wonderful trail magic you're doing
I've watched a few of your videos over the last couple of days. Watching this one and seeing you giving away much needed gear to others has convinced me that this channel is worth subscribing too and adding a comment to the videos to help boost your exposure to RUclips.
This was great! I haven't seen ANYONE else cover trail days and as a fellow gear geek it was really cool to see the current trends in gear. Also, super awesome that you gave away gear to people who sounded like they needed it.
This has to be one of the best camping-hiking videos I've watched all year. Great job and thanks to Garage Grown Gear for supporting you and this event. Tell them I'm heading to their website right now to show my appreciation!!
That was fun! You made some hikers very happy with the free gear! Thanks to GGG!😊
I loved this video so much! It’s funny how we probably all cheered anytime someone uses the same gear as us. “Yes! Gatewood Cape!” “Yes, X-Mid!” “Yes, that powerbank!” I follow you and other backpackers and shop at GGG not because I am UL thru-hiker, but because I started backpacking after I developed gray hair and bad knees and need the lightest practical gear for my 2-5 day trips. This looks like a fun experience for you and everyone else, and so nice that you gave away gear. ❤
It was like if Oprah was interviewing AT hikers. Loved it Steven! I am surprised not more Nature Hike Cloud Up 2. Great little light tent and not too expensive
Several times thought, "This is the best video I've watched on YT in a long time." What a cool way to bless people. Great job!
Cheers to your kindness. Thanks for providing this great on the scene interviews and information. Wishing you success in your endeavors. Happy Trails!
My Durston tent was one of the 45.
Really nice to be helping people who had gear problems. Love it.
Wow, that tent city is definitely different then what I saw under the freeway around Houston
What an awesome video, Steven! You can't go wrong with GGG! I love all the creative UL gear that I wondered how I lived without. That was so amazing to see so many thru hikers get all that gear from you and Garage Grown Gear. You should be their ambassador for sure!
That mic mount was a smart idea. I also like the fact that you didn't give away random gear, but only what they could really use right now.
Great video! I am not a hiker at all, but just really love the channel. I think a lot of your tips can also be applied to camping, which is more my style, so it's always good info.
Kudos to all the volunteers to be on RUclips. Nice that you gave them cool stuff from GGG!
You're so cool to give away your stuff! You made so many people happy
I love your microphone handle, the best way to get the poop about gear.😆
Loved this!! Man great video. Really helpful to see just how varied everyone’s gear is- no one particular set of rules for thru hiking.
This was fun! I love that you gave people gear that they needed!
This was great! Always nice to see these interviews about their gear. I get so honed in on what’s the best of the best and it’s refreshing to see so much variety!
Wow, much respect love how you provided what hikers needed. Great Stuff! And much love for GGG you rock….
Nice giving away gesture to people who are currently on the trail. My respect!
PCT thru hiker here, this was an awesome video. Much respect for you to be able to do that. I can definitely agree quilts are becoming quite popular
Your so sweet helping those folks out! Great info-thank you!
Bro loving your channel and what you’ve been doing lately!
Thanks. I appreciate the support
Love the morale boost by giving away gear and the trowel mic! I would love to see more videos in this format! Keep up the great work!
For beginners REI has a cheap cook set with the Soto Amicus for $50($40 with the 20% off coupon for the Anniversary sale), I love my Amicus the regulator works great and I've never had to click the piezo more than twice to get it started.
Great video! I’m so glad you went out there and put a pulse on what kinds and types of gear thru hikers are using👍🏻
Thanks for helping all those hikers much love!
What a great video:)
I won a GGG gift cert from you around Christmas time and finally used it a couple months ago towards a 30 degree Enlightened equipment revelation quilt that I can't wait to use this June!
When I was a kid I thought a monster lived in our garage.
That’s Garage Grown Fear!!😳
nice
😂
What makes you think it was only a thought?
Question!!!
What would be recommended for those of us who are much larger than the average hiker? Here's my example, most sleeping bags I can't zip past my nipples, much less than my shoulders! Even quilts aren't designed for us, as for tents, I'm relegated to a 2 person. What most manufacturers consider as "wide" really isn't. It's gotten to the point that I'm considering just making my own gear
Just want ultralight gear
😭😭😭😭😭
It blows my mind how many people can take off that much work, just for a hike...
when you have generational wealth, who needs work?
Right not to mention all the money. NONE of that gear is cheap especially these days.
that Avatar jacket is crazy
that guy is so cool lol
I love when you give things away to hikers in need.
Garage grown gear is great! lots of options and great service. Saw you at trails days but didn't get to say high just so many people.
Love the generosity.
Super wholesome video, loved the face of happiness of Puma at the end, what a tent upgrade!
Incredible to walk about and be a sort of gearhead trail angel.
Loved it. Keep spreading that positive attitude-it's truly uplifting!
Enormous respectfor the whole video and giving out gear
Love to see ppl get new gear…puma hugging his new tent was so cool to see!
Awesome video, thank you for doing this as it was exactly why I wanted to go to trail days this year to review the gear.
I hiked the trail in 2022, looks like not much has changed.
Warbonnet Eldorado, one wind Tarp, osprey eather, bsr, tokes, outdoor vitals quilts, esee izula.
Great video!
What an Awesome Video!! You couldn't be cooler for giving that gear away like that!! Love it!!🤘🏻😁👍🏻👍🏻
What a delight to see the handoff of the power bank. Community! xoxoxoxo. And I love the TarpTent shoutout. that's MY fave tent so far.
Just incredible that you’re helping all those people with new gear!
Christmas came in May for some thru hikers and one section hiker. What a grand way to make someones day.
Dude, mad respect!
What a fun video to watch. You could see the joy in their faces!!!!
Thank you Steven! Love your channel! Always very informative and fun to watch!
Super interview M.L.O. The man Walks the Talk. Too much fun.
I must be one of the few who still does hammock (past 4 years the Etrol 3n1)….love more that tent…no under quilt but a green/silver survival blanket as under quilt
Giving folks some gear was the best especially the tent you definitely deserve a thumbs up .
What a fun video. Good work playing Santa w/ GGG!
Most wholesome thing on RUclips right now. Trail Days Trail Angel!
absolutely beautiful video, great idea!! I loved to see the reaction of the new tent owner!! super!!
I just drove over to GGG in St Paul for a pickup order, a 15 minute bicycle ride for me from Minneapolis, those folks are fantastic!
Look at all those ultralight jerks! Love em
Awsome video! Could you do a " a single dayhike for beginners?" I've just started trying on hiking and dont really know what to focus, backpacks, shoes etc? just for basic walks and tips for a newbi
Awesome, love seeing creators giving back to their communities
What a great video, loved the gear giveaways for items hikers needed. I wanted to attend trail days this year but major family crisis made it impossible, I live 4 hours away. It's on my calendar for next year.
So cool giveaways! That was really a "top-shelf" thing to do!
Proud to be a Garage Guy!
The fact you don’t pronounce it Apple-Atch-Un almost killed me but then I watched the video. Good job
This made my day seeing the hikers light up from the gifts!
Ive been thru Damascus but on the trans am riding my bicycle across the country. The hostel I stayed at felt like a half way house and had signs saying the police could come thru at any time!!
awhhh spreading the love man ! so coooool !
Love the trowel mic.
This is a feelgood video. Nice bit of gifting there.
Usually I dont like being one of the crowd but nice to see the xmid being so popular and actually being used in real life. I do like my xmid.
That Mic Handle !! … Hope it was titanium 🤣🤣💩💯🤣 Love it !
Being a trail angels 😇 n the trails is always great. I always bring xtra foods and fuel canisters to give away and utensils.
Feel the love. ❤️ GgG great as ever.
I loved your report and very cool that you gifted what those through hikers really needed. I like your channel and your unique videos. Keep them coming.
P.S. I watched your video on Zenbivy and now am torn between buying their new sleeping pad and the Tensor which was a popular pad on this video. I need to upgrade from my Klymit.
.. Cost may help you decide ,,, Zinbivy is not just a pad but a complete sleep system ,, and $$$ .. Tensor's are great pads ,IMO .. well worth the cost ..
Wow, you are really Santa today. Pure joy to watch your YT channel. Love it!!!🫶
Crazy how popular Durston tents have gotten. I leisurely shopped around for a 'cheap' tent in 2020, took my time, settled on the X-Mid 1P.
Tried it out and told a friend "I'm surprised how good this tent is for the price, you should get one."
He bought one in the Spring 2021 batch but it was crazy how many people were scrambling to buy when it went live. Majority of people couldn't -- the popularity of the tents exploded within a single season and it was nothing like my leisurely shopping experience less than a year prior.
Thank you so much Steven! Love the video and the quilt has been great! - Hellbender
I’m glad it’s working out for you. Thanks again for taking the time to talk at trail days!
I have the Xmid2 solid tent coming. I have the tensor insulated pad everyone is using. I have a Zenbivy convertible light quilt and core sheet. I think I'm going to upgrade my stove from the MSR pocket rocket to the Fire Maple. I'm still undecided on my pillow.
Thanks for sharing. I'd never, ever, ever do a thru-hike. Not leaving the city to put up with thousands of people on the trail. I do my backpacking trips and it's pretty empty on the trail.
Love this. You gave such joy with those gifts!
I love my Durston tent! Never thought a 2lb tent could be so roomy!
It made me very happy to see you giving gear away!!
An inspiring video for human kindness. ❤️ Thank you.
