I loved the guy that looked like he stepped out of 1985 with the pack like I had in that year. I had a Kelty Tioga frame pack like the one on the wall at mountain crossings in this video.
I would hike in the Catskill Mountains in NY and thought nothing of carrying 50+ pounds, and I would take a six pack for the first nite on the trail, crazy days. I still have the pack and it is in great shape, along with a North Face Cats Meow X-Large sleeping bag. It fits me at 6ft5in, the only mummy bag that fit me and it was 2.5 pounds. Still have that also, great bag. There wasn't much water sold back then so I used plastic Coke bottles for water.
And my stove was a small stove like todays , but there was only butane for fuel and it wouldn't work in freezing weather. Propane wasn't used because of the shipping and storage problems. They were just starting to use a propane mix to solve that problem. Still have the stove and a half full fuel canister that works fine also. That guy brought back memories.

In a rattlesnake ID handbook I doubt you would read 'The Back Stinger Part' as a visual description but we all understood you meant 'Rattles' as Julie mentioned.
I laughed at that too. These hikers must have grown up in the city. Rats in the shelters and stingers on rattlesnakes. A lot of them call toads frogs, too. Surprised how few know the difference.

That section between Low Gap and Unicoi is one of my favorites in Georgia. Not a lot of views, but so green, lots of little springs and some fun rocks after Blue Mountain. I think you are off trial now, but I’m glad you got to see Georgia in a different season.
