"In a market where there aren't many sensible kits at sensible prices"...BINGO! This is a niche in the market that is SO under represented. And so needed to encourage fresh blood (was that too ghoulish?) into the hobby. This looks like an EXCELLENT kit for a beginner's series. Great review.

Been down this road...just ended up with Tamiya again, its just the best. Also use wide normal masking tape for sensitive surfaces to mask off larger areas. However i never let it touch the model, fix it on top of Tamiya tape...Love your vids! 😊

My vote is for Defiant and the Mustang.I would say that if there were the matchbox kits and the old Airfix kits. They were great for the beginners but only the Airifx kits are existing now in the Vintage Classics kits.Great models for the 1/48 kits beginners were the ESCI'S kits nad the Otaki/Arii kits.

An excellent review as always Jenn,I liked the box art a lot.Very beautifully unusual and very good sense of the drama of the night fighting over Britain in the dark days and nights of 1940.A very god kit and i think comparatively easy and good for a starter in ww2 1/48 aircraft models although i believe the Otaki/Arii kits are the first for that task.I am forward to see your next video.

The Defiant’s movable fairings in front of and behind the turret were pneumatically operated and their position was selected automatically by the rotation of the turret. What this means practically is that I don’t think both the front and rear fairings could be retracted at the same time. Indeed there are photos on t’internet which show the front fairing retracted and the aft one raised and vice versa. The rear fairing would be retracted with the turret turned to the side to allow the gunner entry or egress. A special all-in-one flying suit incorporating a parachute and flotation had to be developed because the gunner could not wear a standard parachute while seated in the turret and would have to stow the parachute pack in the turret to be donned when needed. Losses among turret gunners were much higher than among Defiant pilots as you can imagine.

Another fantastic review Jen! 👏 👌 Really enjoyable and interesting. Lots of detailed points and everything relevant. I've always been an Airfix fan (as a kid more so Matchbox!) and I never understand the flak they get. As you say, they are not marketed as Armahobby, Tamiya or Eduard quality but they do (usually) build up into a decent model with moderate skills. I'm not a Defiant fan as such and have never built one but this does look a lovely kit and wouldn't mind building it. So looking forward to both the builds Jen! Thanks for posting again. Take care Bobby

I am really looking forward to this build! Especially in this all black night fighter livery. 🙂 The Defiant has remained one of my favorite aircraft ever since in 1986 I've built one in 1:33rd scale. It was a polish cardboard model issued by "Maly Modelarz".

It is nice to hear someone speak out on the primer issue. Primer degrades subtle details. There is no need to prime. I have never had paint come away from the surface. When you work with Hasegawa and Tamiya, not to mention Eduard or Arma Hobby, you lose the fine molding details that you've paid you hard-earned money for! Why? Also I've noticed how often people incur orange peal on their, otherwise, gorgeous work! Crack on!

The pebbly finish is a result of the EDM manufacturing process when making the moulds, If you want shiny you have to employ an aditional polishing step.

Hi Jen. What a day! 1-10 in one sitting. Really enjoyed it, thank you. I model 1/48 aircraft mainly so that would be nice, out of the box, no aftermarket, US Navy jets always look great I think, grey and white with large colourful decals. As a curveball how about a car? I’m currently trying to work my way through the back catalogue of 1/12 Tamiya F1 kits. They’re all very long in the tooth now and difficult to find at an affordable price. Perfect gloss finishes on cars and civil aircraft can be tricky to achieve……. Best, TonyS

Hi Jen, loving this series, I’ve binge watched all afternoon waiting for the garage to ring to say my cars ready for collection, turns out it’s tomorrow! Loved your comments re stencils. I was an aircraft engineer for twenty plus years and rarely apply stencils to my aircraft models. I apply decals starting with the largest and working down, if they’re correctly positioned they give additional reference for the location of later smaller ones. When I get to the stencils I will only apply the largest or brightest. If you take your model to an airfield and hold it up against the real thing at a distance where they both look the same size how many stencils can you see? Probably none. QED. Best, TonyS

I have both these kits in the stash. But I have a real yen to build the Mustang, especially since its camo colours in WWII photos are a dark blue on the rear fuselage spine and up the front of the vertical stabiliser, as well as on the fuselage sides below the cockpit, near the wing root. This with the olive drab, painted out D-Day stripes on the wing, the D-Day stripes on the belly and underside of the wings, yellow nose, and natural metal finish areas make for a very colourful model. 🙂

As I have 2 1/48 and 2 1/72 Mustangs to build, I will look forward to your videos. The problem with RUclips is that there are many armchair experts who prefer to take up sniper positions in an attempt to put others down to justify their imperfect selves. As model making is all about enjoying what you do and dry fit, dry fit and dry fit again rushing headlong is not what I call enjoyment. Having watched lots of RUclips videos over different interests. The ones I go back to tend to be the most easygoing ones. Trust me when I hear I am the best on here. Keep watching and help me monetise the channel I switch off. Work at your pace and don't feel pressure to do more. Life should be an adventure, not a chore. Keep up the good work and ignore the snipers 😂😂

I think, and this is only my opinion, that one of the biggest mojo killers is expectation. People get it into their heads that they must make models because that's their hobby. But you don't HAVE to, and if you don't feel like it, don't do it. Keep up with releases, read stuff, watch videos. When the feeling is there then roll with it, but don't punish yourself when it isn't.
