  • In this series I will take you through a step by step build of the Airfix 1/72 De Havilland Mosquito PRXVI kit.
Aimed at beginners, I hope to show lots of simple tips and tricks to boost the confidence of less experienced modellers, and to maybe add some polish for the more accomplished. Lots of detail, and yes, lots of talking! In part nine, all the decals are added.

Having now watched all the episodes; to date; I have to say this is the most detailed beginners tutorial I have ever seen. Time to watch them all through a second time. I have learned to now love super glue as well :) Many thanks Jen.

Hi Jen 🙂 "From the center outwards" Thanks for the tip, always something to be learned! You keep making British aircraft look so good with American markings, it may get me to do the same 😃
As always, a pleasure watching your work!

she's perfect Jen ! 👍👍😍😍 yes floating decal numbers are a pest , they can stick to your fingers and end up where you don't want them ,then you will notice a couple of days later - when they are nicely stuck down !

Great stuff Jen. Thanks for the all the tips regarding decalling and their flattening. Eyes are open now for Tryzac at the right price.😊

I agree with you on stencils Jen. I also wish that they were printed in a scale colour - dark grey rather than black that is too stark.

A very timely tutorial for me Jen as I’m about to decal with products I’m not used to. My regular solutions are out of stock. 🤞🏻

Hi Jen, loving this series, I’ve binge watched all afternoon waiting for the garage to ring to say my cars ready for collection, turns out it’s tomorrow!
Loved your comments re stencils. I was an aircraft engineer for twenty plus years and rarely apply stencils to my aircraft models.
I apply decals starting with the largest and working down, if they’re correctly positioned they give additional reference for the location of later smaller ones. When I get to the stencils I will only apply the largest or brightest.
If you take your model to an airfield and hold it up against the real thing at a distance where they both look the same size how many stencils can you see? Probably none. QED.
    Best, TonyS

Hi! Is there a particular reason for you preferring the regular thinner from Mr.Color?...

Good question, and yes. It's cheaper, and the levelling thinner takes a lot longer to dry (obviously). The way I paint, I really don't need the levelling properties, so why spend the extra money.....
