  • The Silver Spitfire.
This is my project to build G-IRTY, the around the world record breaking Spitfire. I will be using the magnificent new Airfix 1/24 kit, and probably quite a lot of foil, to attempt a replica of the polished metal beauty that is the Silver Spitfire. In part two, there are more extras (!) and I have made a start in some areas.

Love your attention to those small details. I will steal some of them for my next Spit in 1/24 ;)

Lovely project, not seen litho plate being used for a very long time. If you ever need any more I have several lifetimes supply in both 0.15mm and 0.25mm thickness.

Big thanks to you Jen for your inputs to help create the aftermarket parts for a G-IRTY build.
As you stated the Dzus fastener can be corrected on the kit but having a PE replacement would be
more desirable. I have the same wheel/ round exhaust kits ordered from BNA Model World in Australia.
Recently received the Quinta Studio 3D cockpit set but as good as it is the Airscale upgrade is still the best. Side by side the instrument panel by Airscale looks more like the real thing.
If the Sharpie signatures were a detail you want to add. High contrast images or reproducing the writing
can be scanned to scale and printed on laser print decal paper.
I emailed Paul H Monforton 14,15/11/23. He is doing well and the reference book or PDF is still available at Monforton Press. There has been a problem with security code warnings with his current email and the fix is to replace with a new email address between now and December.
Now a subscriber and have always click the, like on your videos.
I have a new video of the Revell 1/48 SR-71 posed inflight with the l.e.d. lighting on my channel
    if interested.
Looking forward to watching updates on what will no doubt be an amazing build.

Thanks. I did order and receive the Monforton book in pdf format even though I have a printed copy. Once I figure out how to get it onto my Ipad it will be much easier to use on the bench than the book is.

I built mine as G-IRTY and foil covered the whole thing. The decals cost a fortune though

Any updates coming in the future on the Spit? Looking forward to the foiling of this large model.

Thank you for this informative update, I envy modellers who can maintain interest in large projects and who possess the perseverance to do that amount of prep work!
When you demonstrated making the blister with litho plate I anticipated you'd use the pressed shape as a mould to make a new blister from epoxy or similar. Won't the litho plate blister be marginally larger than the original part? Regardless, thank you again for sharing!

Yes, marginally bigger but only by the thickness of the metal. I think the kit blisters are a touch small anyway having seen the real thing.

It was a comment on Part One referring to Nigel of 'Nigels Modelling Bench' fame. Well at least I think that was who the commenter was referring to lol

If it was overlooked in the past, it certainly isn't any more since the warbird community have realised how much money they can make out of a two-seater! I don't have any particular interest in building one though
