Final Fantasy VIII: A Newcomer's Perspective
Final Fantasy XV holds a very special place for me as with my limited time on Xbox Game Pass that was the very first Final Fantasy to open the door for me to get into the series. I didn’t really get into the game, just messed around a lot and I gotta say I was hooked immediately. Don’t know what it was at the time but I just had that good feeling I get with games that I know I’m gonna enjoy. I wasn’t until Final Fantasy VII Remake where I took my first big step through that door and began my journey, and the rest was history. Of course that was just over the span of several years but still, FF XV will always hold that place for me, and now that I finally own the Royal edition thanks to Christmas, I will finally be able to enjoy it properly.
I’be been playing on PS5 and about 60 hours in. I love it!!
To quote Pro-Jared on his review: "Final Fantasy V is not the most underrated, it is the most overlooked" since originally it didn't have an an overseas release during the snes era, it stayed as a Japan-only title, or known because the fan translation on emulators, this hindered it's fame even when later ports came because people also flocked to the ports of the entries they were already familiar with on a feedback cycle of popularity. BUT! when you find people who actually played the game 99% of the time they'll give it a high praise, so it is a niche game, but also a very welcoming one.
That's a good way of putting it.
if smt 1 makes your highest tier and its the only of the megaten franchise you've played you really owe it to yourself to play atleast some others of the mainline games, nocturne and 4 being the stand outs in my opinion. incredibly good games
I'm going to play them all :]
I love this game! DQ4 was the first game I ever played on the DS. Everything about this one charmed me, from getting to pick your hero's gender to running the shop to dying by my own tarot magic. Whether it's the best DQ or not, it's as enjoyable as any of them. Great video
Thanks for watching!
Too bad, my phone can't play ,if not I interested
Another great video!
Thank you, and thanks for watching
I hope you will give the later installments a chance. It's only upwards after SMT 1. My favorites being Nocturne (which is 3) and SMT4. Fantastic games to give you anxiety, depression, make you rage, but all in all make you feel and care about the game, it's story and characters. Which is rare.
I'm gonna play them all
I've been playing this game for 2 months now, I'm going to defeat the final boss. My main characters are named Céfaløs for m.c, Melkor for chaos c., Aidan for law c., Egea for female. It has been a surprising journey, a difficult game, but the story has captivated me, I grew up playing silent hill, resident evil, and final fantasy.
Glad you're enjoying it, it's a satisfying grind
@rpg_haven I finished it yesterday. I will keep playing other megaten games.
We will never get the version i really want of Ys 3 the Genesis one i love that Fm sound so much especially Redmont town tune :)
Zestiria and Arise have better OSTs.
I look forward to playing Arise even more then
@@rpg_haven You mean you didn't like Zestiria's Go Shiina OSTs?
@@dencheq Frankly I don't remember any of it. I'd like to replay Zestiria tho
@@rpg_haven easier just to check out OSTs
It's the only 16bit FF i like.
I really liked the weapon synthesis in Rogue Galaxy and Dark Cloud Both are great games
one of my fav games ever. literally ever. Rieko Kodama's artwork is amazing. she went on to make sega's best RPGs ever. i'll always love Skies of Arcadia. it's worth noting that Kodama was the producer for Sega Ages Phantasy Star, so a lot of the QOL changes are thanks to her and the team she was in charge of. nobody would've been more aware of how it had aged than the original team!
replaying this game for christmas. i was Aya for halloween this year. Parasite Eve my beloved...
really love this game, but i play a lot of JANK games, and i'm a big fan of Shouzou Kaga. the core concept of "leveling up" in FE1 was very strong, so you could get by with arena grinding a few units. in FE2, "level up" isn't valid, because growth rates are much lower here. the result is a game that asks you to use tactics to overcome enemy force, instead of raising the battle power of a few characters to obscene levels. the game definitely was ambitious for the era, and is held back by a lot of things. the famicom hardware didn't do it any favours, but Kaga basically invented the genre of "tactics RPG", and it would take a few attempts for the team at Intelligent Systems to really figure it out. FE4 and FE5 are still so cool, so i'm glad they were able to work out the issues FE1-3 had.
amazing video. subbed! fellow resident of the south here, cool to hear a familiar accent in my weird demonic jrpg. cannot wait until you reach Soul Hackers. it's the pinnacle of this type of megami tensei game; after this, they switch to the nocturne/persona 3 style, but Soul Hackers is still a first person dungeon crawler and perfects the mechanics we all love in SMT1.
Soul Hackers looks fun, I'll definitely do a video once I play it
I just got the smt 3 nocturne doublejump strategy book it’s so sick!!! I really reallly reallllllllly miss printed strategy guides :(
Ys VI on pc is quite different imo and is one of my favourites. Plays quite like Oath in Felghana
I will have to try that version someday
Are you sure you're not Isaac Arthur? 🤔🤫
Sick seeing another JRPG/ SFIA fan! You must be very handsome lmao
SMT2 is a wild ride, it's really the game that solidified the series into what it would become going forward. The "most Megaten Megaten" game, if you will
Can't wait
i agree even though i hate the dungeons in Smt2. wait... that's actually just proving you right lmfao
Aww yeah, always happy to see more light shine on classic SMT. Keep up the good work!
I just purchased the gba version looking forward to playing it Thanks so much for the video 😎
If SMT 1 and 2 released internationally they itd be considered an all time great on the SNES like Chrono Trigger and FF, to this day the only games that have come close to its atmosphere are Fear & Hunger and Bloodborne in my opinion and even then it doesnt have the crazy SMT flair, absolute cinema
Atlus/SEGA should hook up with Square-Enix so that we can get the HD 2D tratement for SMT.
That's.. actually a pretty cool idea. But they wouldn't need Square to do it, could just copy the style a la Star Ocean
Nah, most of those HD 2D (what an awful term btw) look absolutely terrible IMO. But yes, it would be nice to finally have an official Western release with some nice quality of life upgrades at least.
Yes
Been following your twitter. I had no idea you were that incredibly based!
Comparing the game to its contemporaries at the time is a good move, really showcases how this game different from other console JRPGs. It's wild to think this series started off as a licensed videogame for an 80s sci fi horror novel series. Wild franchise progression, can't wait to see how you react to the rest like Nocturne.
I'd love to read the original novels someday, heard they're trashy fun. I should be getting to Nocturne in 2025!
@@rpg_haven I read a tiny part of it when I was at my peak SMT phase, they're honestly kind of garbage (or maybe the translations are just terrible). I honestly have no idea hwy this was turned into a video game back in the day considering how poor the source material is, but I guess we should be thankful.
I really agree with you on the religious iconography. the games are so good because they make all the icons so cool! i joke to my wife that the start of the game is you a fairy and a starfish beating up slimes and ends with you and shiva and metatron fighting god lol. its just such a classic jrpg series imo. i started with nocturne on ps2 and it just blew me away.
i liked that persona 5 let you invite demons even if you hadnt beat them all. even if it wasnt my favorite game in the series
I feel like your video made me feel brave enough to play SMT1. My first, aside from the Raidou games, was SMTV, so going back to the beginning has felt imposing until you explained all these basics. Thank you and keep these coming. Very well produced content!
I love hearing that, hope you enjoy the game if you do give it a chance
Commenting for the algorithm. Great videos man.
Thank you!
SHEEN megami tensei, i like that lol
Never thought id hear a cowboy say the title of this game lol
@@chammo10 it's awesome to hear, especially being someone from the south
Dude, how in the hell.... oh, it was released an hour ago. I was gonna say, this needs to have way more than 44 views ffs! Really good stuff!
Neat, this video title is pro-rated for viewing until 2029.
Your reviews are great and in-depth keep it up :-D
Thank you
People with your accent exist? People speak like this day to day unironically? Or is it just for the YT persona? Differentiation? If legitimate, its quite charming/endearing.
Hey RPG Haven. The Tales of Rebirth english patch is slated to launch on the 16th of this month. That is all. ;)
Thank you for the heads up
My capture card sucked and makes the footage stuttery. It doesn't really look like this! The game plays very smooth~
Just started today. Kinda hard but fun
LOVED this game, even though I played the translated ROM so many years ago it still remains one of my all time favorites. The theme for Freezekill is the one of the two best OST's in this soundtrack (along with the boss fight vs the Wyvern in the Colosseum).
I’d say that V is my favorite Final Fantasy in terms of characters, game systems, villain and story as a whole
Solid choice
This video is NOT worth anyone’s time.
;-[
Vastly prefer the SNES version just for how much better looking it is. One of the most gorgeous 16-bit rpgs alongside Trials of Mana/SD3 vs hideous 3d overworld and generic pre-rendered backgrounds. The weapons on the sprites also look off, and I really don't like the modern portraits and art. Bleh.
It's a textbook whimsical adventure. I mean, you meet Santa Claus!
FFV's final party is funny. 3 princesses and a homeless guy.
LOL
This is the best one for sure.
The costumes was one of the best parts of this game
True, wish more RPGs did similar
Yes, yes it is REALLY that great. Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk.
I cannot recommend the pixle remaster of 5 enough. All the quality of life features make it a truly wonderful experience. The boost for abp and ability to turn off encounters on a moments notice to just get to where you need to go is great.
Just finished 2D-HD, i did not play the original, loved the game
