Love this game. I got it at a garage sale as a kid. It took me several years to beat it because I’d always get turned around in the labyrinth. I still really enjoyed it though. Thanks for the review and play through!
Haven I'm going to have to check your streams out sometime. I love your content like no other and want more. Didn't know you streamed so now I have a big backlog to look forward to! have a blessed day!
Shining Force (1) was always my favorite game as a kid, but Shining in the Darkness was just a piece of trivia I learned about from the internet until I played it early this year. I think it's a tremendously fun game that deserves way more attention. I did draw my own maps on graph paper, which I genuinely think was the most fun part of the whole experience. I very much appreciate your "fantasy comfort food" thought, I think it's very accurate for how I felt playing the game.
@@rpg_haven the original phantasy star was like that too (first person dungeons). Sadly I never had a saturn to experience holy ark and I don't have an emulator for it
Lol, for some reason I had no idea this was a japanese developed game due to the art style, looks alot like a mixture of old D&D and The Sword in the Stone. That twangy battle theme will forever be burned into my brain now though, Genesis games had that twang hard core.
If you enjoyed this, then Etrian Odyssey 3 next month is a MUST. You can snag the whole 1-3 origins collection too if you’d like to start from 1, but man they are excellent dungeon crawlers.
This game has a special place in my heart as it the first JRPG I ever played - before I even new what an RPG was
Nice avatar :]

Love this game , I wish they would have made this into a series of dungeon crawling JRPGs
Hey there's always Shining the Holy Ark. Not sure if there's any others in that style tho

I love this game, but I've never finished it. I gotta do that some time.
