  • Wild Arms has a reputation as an under-appreciated PS1 classic. How does it hold up?
Developed in Japan by Media.Vision and first published by Sony Computer Entertainment in 1996, this classic JRPG has received several sequels and a tactics-based spinoff.

This was my first offical jrpg way back in the late 90s, and has a special place in my heart. I say this, but have to still continue my save file and beat it lol...

While the gameplay is hard to get into, I really did love the story and music of this game.
I remember as a kid there was a scene where one of the villains is "devoured", and the tone of the scene was setup like a horror movie which stuck with me for years.
Regardless, thank you for the awesome review. Always appreciate older games getting recognition in the modern era.

Lol, the more videos you make the more I realize how many JRPGs I have left to play. Backlogs are great.
I too was thinking of Radiant Historia when you mentioned the desertification probably because that is a more rare trope in JRPGs compared to other fiction most likely. Also the battles being in 3D might have to do with that rumor that Sony mandated games be 3D in the early years of the Playstation so if that is true then the 3D battles make sense.
Also the wild west needs more games in general, especially RPGs. Makes me hope those wild west Tengai Makyou games get english patches.

Ooh I didn't know some of the Tengai Makyou games were western themed. I've had Ziria in my sights for a while, so I'll have to check it out after I finish FFVI.
Yeah, there are so many JRPGs. I've got about 100 "must-plays" left on my list, but there's at least another 50-100 out there I'd surely be interested in

@@rpg_haven Yeah the Saturn game is western themed and it has the coolest looking battles. All the sprites are animated like anime and they are super detailed. It's hella cool.
Lol and also more JRPGs get fan translations by the month it feels. Linda cubed is one we finally got this year which is insane to think about. Having too many games is a nice problem to have for sure.

This was a great stop gap before ffvii came out. Ubtil wild arms came out with the. Whole grid mess they had me locked in.

If you don't say Yee Haw at some point I will be sad.
Edit: Why did I think this game was a Western?

Hahah, the box art fooled me too. It has some Wild West theming in some of the art, but yeah it's not really a Western.
