Wild Arms 1 of course. Just like SUikoden 1 it set the tone, and had by far the best soundtrack. The original game had a hydrid of western imagery and high fantasy setting - the subsequent games get less and less fantasy.

No matter which Wild Arms, the soundtrack always be the strongest point, the music style had that particular charm that evokes strong sense of nostalgia.

Alter Code F (the PS2 remake of Wild Arms 1) is probably my favorite overall. All the touching up they did to the original looks and feels fantastic, and of course adding Jane, Emma, and Zed as playable characters was overdue in my opinion (Jane in particular screamed "friendly rival party member" in the original, and then never happened). I am a little disappointed that they did the WA3 thing with no equipment, and they also removed a couple of dungeons, but ultimately, I feel like Alter Code F is the culmination of all the things that made Wild Arms great to begin with.

    • @rhinelladiptycha3513
      @rhinelladiptycha3513 20 дней назад +1

Alter Code F is so good! The only negative point I can give it is the wonky translation that's full of typos, other than that it's a clear labor of love to the original

Played Wild Arms 1 (never finished it) like 20 years ago... Done 3 and 4 last year and started again 1 last week! Love those games... Musics and characters have something unique you don't find in most other RPGs and I love it!

This series needs a collection or remaster so badly. Too many were released after the end of a console generation. I've been playing Wild Arms 5 lately, and it's one of the most enjoyable RPGs I've played.

Thanks for making the video, I clicked as soon as I saw it. It's truly a shame that the Wild Arms Series has been mostly forgotten, just like the Breath of Fire series... At least we got the first 3 games available on PS4 & PS5. I guess I'll have to play the other games on their respective consoles, as I highly doubt they'll ever be ported to the modern system in the near future.

Wild Arms 2 blew me away. I played it during covid because I hadn't actually gotten to the 2nd disc and I was surprise by how cool the characters were, the story, etc. Despite the spotty translation, it was an awesome game with great puzzles and some symbolic themes in its narrative here and there.

I'm a huge wild arms fan of the first trilogy games.. and yes i also do like the scan/search system on the world map. It makes you feel exploring in real life where you unlock surprises along the way. I say it's a neat mechanic. 😊

I grew up playing all this amazing RPGs. Wild Arms is one of those series that are close to my heart. From the music, Colors, gameplay, story, everything was sooo awesome. I remember putting the game on my psx just watch the intro and whistle along with the intro. I still own all the original disk in their original cases with booklet and all. So many games i will like to play again and this would be the first series to go through from 1 to 5. Now we need wild arms 6 or a remake.

    3. My favourite is definately 3. Perfect ambience and vibes. The rest do have some of that wild west ambiance, but 3 is just perfect in that regard, and I love the characters. The battles and animations are also perfect, unlike 4 and 5 which were just too long, and the Hex system never seemed to click with me. Also, I really disagree with you, and think the cel shaded art style makes it timeless rather than just being another ps2 RPG.
I came late to the series, but I regret not having been into it in it's heyday. Guess we'll have to wait and see how Armed Fantasia turns out.

My big memory of Wild Arms, 3 in particular:
Playing through the game, got to the Humbaba Boss (IYKYK). I was prepared for it, in context.
Clive had Valiant, and a Dark Ring Mysticed on him. Humbaba had Weaken. Clive was down about 300HP. And Clive got a critical for nearly 8000 damage. Did a very solid kill from it.

Nice retrospective, although I wish you dived more into it with some unique stuff. Like in first game where you get the Guardians, the characters failed the tests to get them, but since nobody else is left to protect the world, they still decide to help out, even though you had a weak ''heart''. Other things like Wild Arms 2 having a 2nd intro that happens after new enemies appear and story changes in Disk 2.
Also, losing your mind over scanning in WA2 is a bit of stretch. From one to other town, you can only go in two or three directions to look, so you find it in a minute or two at worst.

The first wild arms I ever played was 2 and i loved the concept of Knight Blazer. Then when the ps3 released I managed to download wild arms 1 from psn and played that too. Both are great games. I did finish 3 but... ehhh I agree with you on the cell shading and the overworld was just too muddy in color for that style and to top it off yeah the sonar/radar feature for 3 in particular was pretty bad...Cool video, it's nice to remember good old rpgs.

Huge WA fan here, i remember getting the original Wild Arms when ff7 was released, and a friend of mine that was playing it one day saw me wih WA, and laughed on how "ridiculous" it looked, being sprites instead of 3d and rendered backgrounds. I didn't pay any attention, as a i fell in love with WA, and played every entry and bought tons of merch.
It was sad seeing that Sony killed the franchise, even having a big following, specially in Japan, luckily we have a spiritual succesor in the making with Armed Fantasia.

WildARMS 1 has a stellar story and great design. The only real complaint I had is graphics.
WildARMs 2 has a good story but fantastic design and is one of the best jrpg's on ps1. I loved it the day it came out and it still holds up decently.
WildARMs 3 is great but not amazing. In the ps2 era, though, it was a real gem.
WildARMs 4? That doesn't exist, stop makin stuff up. They quit making them after 3! *sniffle*

My favorite was probably one of the first three. Hard to say which exactly as they all had very good things about them. Least favorite on the other hand was DEFINITELY 5. The writing in that game was just so, SO bad, and it’s story only got worse the longer it went on and the more I thought about it. That and I thought the combat was a step backwards as I prefer unique character capabilities and I remember the fights against the members of Brionac in 4 being far more interesting.
