  • Despite never getting a Western release, Dragon Slayer played a fundamental role in shaping the genre we love today. How does it hold up?
Developed and published by Nihon Falcom, Dragon Slayer was first released in 1984 for the PC-8801 and saw numerous re-releases over the years. For this retrospective, I played the Sega Saturn remake.

I remember trying the PC88 version ages ago. This Saturn version looks much better by comparison. And it looks like that is a collection with other Falcom games like Ys, didn't know that existed.

It's called Falcom Classics and also includes Ys and Xanadu. Oddly enough, it has a fan translation

Trails of ... series game is very good - if you like long, political and intertwined story. Then I advise to start from the beginning - trails of sky (2 parts), trails of zero and something else (2 standalone games in another country) and only then go for Trails of steel (3rd country)

I thought this game was totally diff. I'm not sure what I'm thinking of. With a name like Dragon Slayer I hoped for more dragon slaying lol

Yeah man If your not a fan of long and heavy story jrpgs, don't play the trail of cold steel games. The only one that has a decent length is trails from zero though it's sequel trails to azure is like 20 to 30 hours longer.

@@rpg_haven Oh okay that's good, I thought since you played a lot of retro rpgs you wouldn't.
