  • Andromeda rightfully got a lot of flak at release. But is it really so bad now?
Developed by BioWare, Mass Effect: Andromeda is the fourth and so far final game in the once-beloved series, released in 2017 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.

I played it when it first came out on a basic PS4 and IMO the bug issues were exaggerated. I actually had fewer crashes or bugs requiring save reloads then any of the earlier games. And I don't give a damn about cutscene animation glitches. I don't like the story or characters as much as in the earlier games but the gameplay and weapon selection are my favorite in the series so far.
I hate the Tempest though. IMO the only person who would design an unarmed ship for Tempest's mission profile in a setting like Mass Effect is either an idiot or a saboteur.
I usually used a Particle Submachine Gun, a Shotgun, a Pistol, and an Assault Rifle modded to overheat instead of using thermal clips, and firing seeking shots. I usually saved that for bosses and defense missions though..
And there were plot points and question I hoped would be answered in the story DLCs(I will never entirely forgive whatever jerks canceled them), or a sequel that will probably never be answered since its back to the Milky Way apparently.

I enjoyed my time with ME: Andromeda. It is not a bad game by any means. It's just not as good as the other entries. Its also not suposed to be a stand-alone title, as its story doesn't have a conclusion. And sadly I'm not sure it ever will. The thing I personaly hated the most was actualy the enemy respawn mechanic. Never been able to get over the fact that just a few minutes after you wipe out an outpost in these super isolated locations, it is crawling with the same enemies again. Absolute imersion breaking. Not exclusive to this game but it's somehow more agravating here. With so many locations to explore and grind, they should just disable respawning in my opinion. Love your videos. Keep up the good work

Constantly respawning enemies has always bothered me too. It's one reason I was never into beat 'em ups.

A lot of the games issues comes from being forced to use the frostbite engine as they needed to redo all their assets + they had the same budget as they had for mass effect 3 which build upon 2 games with roughly 2-3 times the lenght.
Also vanguard + shotgun is the best mix for people that cant aim on console. Just charge the enemy right into the face.
For races, remember andromeda plays in just one Cluster of the andromeda Galaxy. A galaxy without mass relays. 1 race in once cluster isnt strange.

True, I didn't consider the fact that Andromeda lacks mass relays (and presumably FTL travel, period). Then again, if there's no FTL, I'm not sure how Ryder hops from cluster to cluster.

    • @leopard2690
      @leopard2690 10 месяцев назад +1

@@rpg_haven mass effect ships have FTL, but even with FTL its a stretch to reach the whole galaxy like in the milky way. If you dont have the mass relays most races Probably gonna stay near their home world. If the travel to colonies takes too long its hard to etablish them. In the milky way traveling to anothee Cluster is just a short jump, not a long travel. Would explain why the remnant went so hard on terraforming
And I guess in andromeda we will have even less races as its etablished that Kett work hard to become the only race, the kett in the helius Cluster only being a small part of their empire
Like in reality it 100% was a Budget problem, but at least one that actualy makes sense in the context. So I didnt see it as a negative despite having hoped for more

Lol, when you mentioned Marvel-like writing it reminded me just how much damage both Marvel and Rick and Morty have done to character and story writing. This game's price dropped super fast and I always intended to give it a play. It is nice to know now that it is an okay game.
The one thing I really like about western RPGs is their emphasis on lore. That is what makes alot of them appealing but lore writing has to be tight or it all falls apart. Glad the AI chip thing is waved away decently and funnily enough since it sounds like in the game you are on an expedition they could have waved it away in that is was a secret unethical choice but the easier option of lobotomizing the AI works well too.

True, I can't wait for today's writers to stop imitating Marvel, or really just the general trend of shallow dialogue

The game is fine. Sure it has a few issues but a good game all around. I'm playing it right now on the hardest difficulty. I wish people would stop whining about everything and just have fun or don't play games in general.

Dating sim elements aren't too uncommon in RPGs really. I honestly like the idea of romancing characters in games but it's often executed badly imo, for a variety of reasons depending on the game. As for this game, I'm so sick of Hollywood style stuff where every character tries way too hard to be witty and snarky, so I'm sure this game would drive me crazy if I tried to play it. Makes me think even I could write better, I tell you.
idk if you have plans to start streaming again in the future but I hope you still get around to trying LISA, I wanted to see that one.

I'd be into romance in RPGs if it were done well, too. I guess Persona does it OK.
Also, perfect timing. Gonna start streaming Lisa this Thursday night

When I think of romance in RPGs the first game I think of is Three Houses, which thanks to the writing is probably my favorite take on the idea even though the actual mechanics of it are as basic as can be. The other Fire Emblem games with romance mechanics though are a perfect example for some common problems I have with it. In games like Fates and FE12 they have all the dating but none of the writing chops that makes me actually want to date characters in Three Houses, and even when I do find a character I like I don't want to see them date the garbage protagonist anyways.
Happy to hear that you still want to stream LISA, hopefully I'll be there to catch it live

@@monsterdong420 Gonna stream tomorrow (Friday) night instead; work got in the way.
I never even considered the romance in FE, but that's probably because I haven't played any of the modern ones besides Three Houses. I'll take cheesy anime JRPG dialogue over corny Western trash any day, though ;)

No amount of whitewash will ever upgrade this wet, rancid dogfart of a game to anything even approaching mediocre. BioWare needs to go back and capture the magic of the original Mass Effect game. There was a "bottled lightning" that existed in the original Mass Effect and Mass 2 that I hope they can recapture.
