Rean is not staying behind really. The others are just graduating early, because they have shit to do. It was really cute and heart breaking when Alisa got sad and said she didn't want to leave and stay behind with Rean too. I do think those 2 are just super cute together. Too bad most characters lose their best crafts in the later games. At least Lloyd still allows for Burning Heart spam. And finally! A plot twist you weren't spoiled on! I hope you enjoy the other games too. The Black Records get way more relevant in Cold Steel 3, I believe. Not sure though. And keep your eyes peeled for the rest of Antons adventures. Everyone loves Anton! But Ricky is even better for just sticking around the whole time. A true bro to the end. I like Cold Steel 2. I really hope I cna finish Azure in the next month or 2. I need to finish Harvestella too. And play Ys 7.

And there it is. The completion of what utter defeat looks like. 1) Rean is certainly a more skilled fighter than Lloyd. But to defeat Lloyd you have to have an iron will and purpose, he is so determined that he can defeat almost any skill level when the moment calls for it. So Rean lost because he doesn't believe in what he is doing at all. He is lost. And envy's Lloyd's sense of purpose. 2) The destruction of Class 7. They were beaten so badly that Class 7 cannot even stay together. Their entire purpose for existing, to find a third way, was manipulated and used against them. So they all leave. And with Rean so lost he can't even keep them together. He stays in school, because what else is he going to do? Yes, the ending is too long. But damn I love it so freaking much.

Quickfire random comments: I actually always found calculus the most fun field in maths (differential calculus at least, which was the only type I did). The best thing about the Reverie Corridor is getting to see everyone's team reactions with Overdrive! According to a recent interview, Anton was heavily based on one of Kondo's university friends (which means Ricky is probably Kondo himself). Yeah I know what you mean by dragging. This is what happens when you add 10 more hours to a game purely for a song. "Quatre Studio"? Hmm... Oh yeah, I recommend you take a break before CS3. It is sort of the start of a new arc. And you've played 4 Trails games in a relatively short period (two on Hard, two on Nightmare) Plus editing. Plus reviews and nutshells. I'm saying this as someone who got burned out in CS4. You don't want to ruin the experience for yourself. You can only play them for the first time once. Unless you really can't wait of course. But if you ever feel slightly tired, this is a good place to pause.

I love the epilogue, by far my favourite section in Cold Steel 2, all the emotion gets to me plus Rean's best character developtment in the first Cold Steel arc. I'm especially fond of the scene with Towa.

There's a subtle implication both narratively and ludonarratively that if any of the core 10 members of Class VII didn't work out that Rosine was available to become a backup member. She has all the hallmarks of a JRPG party member; the unique personality, background, mysterious past, political importance, future potential, and combat-related skills to fit in perfectly without the game changing in any meaningful way.

I see how you were impatient to get to the end, and while the infernal castle would have been a ...typical end, I am glad we not only had some strings tied up from that scene but also some nice gameplay with rixia and lloyd, and seeing and hearing them in 3d and english. I also enjoyed the reverie corridor, although it felt less like a final dungeon and more like a victory lap. All of the cast, FINALLY getting a grail sphere/zero field (did you even try alfin's s-craft?), even super powerful transforms for the party members that made them into OP characters. And also: basically playable Dualblade Crow and playable Vita (and Altina, but I cared least about her). That not only give them and their crafts for combat but also a ton of unique lines, including victory quotes (some unique ones on certain links) and overworld comments (for chests etc). I LOVED having all that available, I could just have fun there. Thee story integration here was a bit weird with the final boss there, everything seemed a bit like an asspull, but I did haave fun so I was okay with that. It made for a better ending (and a better breakpoint than ...lets say CS1 or Sky FC). It felt a bit like Zeros Ending: actually things are mostly resolved, we hav a good clear cut (like with the brights leaving) but there are still plenty of unanswered questions for Azure. I hate how it was only implied and never told that most of class 7 took a speed course to graduate early. I needed that explained myself. And yeah, Thomas. There were plenty of random religious lines that...with the Aidios religion saying those lines isn't sus, he just had a lot of them. Them with his knowledge and calmness during the first finale in Heimdallr I was already like: he is probably gonna grab his Templar Sword any moment now (he probably does not even use one though). It's a fun timing. I am about to start CS3 this weekend and now you upload the last funny moments. Looking forward to your other usual stuff! Well, I can finally let out all my pent up hatred for Thomas now. As possibly the biggest Ouroboros simp on the internet, I can say with total conviction that I wholeheartedly despise the Septian Church and the Gralsritter. Oh, and you've already "met" the Roaring Lion. He's the one who you kept finding letters for in that one sidequest before you liberated the imperial family and take on the Infernal Castle. You know, the priest that Gaius said he knew.

I personally wanted more even after this, first time I played it. But I guess I know what you mean. Especially because I played the Cold Steel Arc like 6 or 8 times and it really does get tiring to play the "bonus" dungeon and especially the quests, when you're just ready and want to start playing III.

The end :( on another note, I am playing trails through daybreak, the finale has a lot of... barriers in it :)

Let me get this straight. You noticed and are suspect about George's last name. BUT YOU DIDN'T NOTICE BOTH FLORANDS WHO ARE IN THE SAME SCHOOL WITH THE SAME HAIR COLOUR WHO WERE BOTH NOBLE WITH THE SAME LAST NAME WERE SIBLINGS?! Also I think I'm the one who told you about Toys R Us still being around in Canada. yep, funny too because I never even knew that giraffe's name but was like 'who the hell is... oh'. when you mentioned it. Also, your confusion at the end is completely backwards IMO lol. One of the reasons why I hold CS2 in low regard (for a trails game, I still like the game) is because the end is just so... I mean the series painstakingly builds everything, even minor npcs. But at the end the game acts like it was telling you all along that all of class 7 was dropping out but Rean. You got it backwards because remember, Thors is a TWO year academy. Crow, angelica, Towa, etc. They in their 2nd year. Class 7 only in their first. At the end of CS2 I'm like bwuh. literally everyone is dropping out? SINCE WHEN?!?! The game makes NO mention of this as far as I can tell until at the end and then it acts like everyone knew it all along. It's absolute dog-dung. Some characters have legit excuses like Millium only being there in the first place to be a spy or whatever and jobs done, crow's dead, Osborne is alive, etc. Jusis is also understandable because His dad's good for nothing and probably belongs in jail, and Rufus is busy being governer general in Crossbell, so he's next in line to manage his family estate. All the other characters reasons seem like cop-outs to me though IMO. To make matters worse, the length of time we got CS3 to release after CS2 was the longest wait since FC->SC, so I had that stupid ending stewing for so long.

The school offered all of Class VII the chance to graduate early because of everything they've done during the war assuming they endured a bunch of accelerated courses (which is why everyone was so exhausted after class). Everyone had something important to do, so they accepted. Meanwhile poor Rean was stuck doing military work for a month and lost the chance. Rean's also the only one still uncertain of his future and thus unwilling to move on just yet. It could also be said this is Osborne manipulating things so the guy who gets his all his strength from his friends no longer has his friends around to support him, thus making the puppet hero easier to control. The Reverie Corridor is an interesting final dungeon. Thankfully it's not all that long and the chance to try out a bunch of guest characters (seriously CS2 Alfin is beyond jacked but you only get her here) is fun. Still, sticking it after the end of the game and making it mandatory is a bit of a choice. Luckily that doesn't happen again. Final boss having a fuck you phase was taken straight from Azure. In that game it simply deletes you from existence, but this boss just gets infinite 1 delay attacks. That you survived long enough to get a single turn was surprising, and I was really bummed you didn't just throw a zeram powder on Laura to seal the deal, since I knew what was about to happen. The epilogue has a bunch of great scenes. Rean breaking down with Towa, Millium crying, everyone thanking Sara at the end. Made up for the fact I was playing the game at 4 AM waiting for it to finally end.

I will never get why people moan about the game's length, I really enjoy this type of final dungeon, imagine a modern game giving this much content

That epilogue really does burn you out when you're not expecting it huh. Anyway, before you start cold steel 3 I'm gonna lightly recommend you skip that game's intros. (Like both the character introduction and the proper animated one.) They're the only ones with (what I'd consider) a serious and obvious spoiler. It is kinda arguable how bad the spoiler is (hence light recommend), and I'm probably jumping the gun a bit since it's unclear how long you'll wait before you start CS3, but figured I'd throw that out there now.

That does it for Cold Steel 2. I love this game to bits. The story, lost arts, overdrive and playable Towa not to mention the social links. And now you know why we kept saying to not do Nightmare. Well if you decide to do it for Cold Steel 3, don't say we didn't warn you, it's your funeral, etc.

It's not that Rean stays behind. Technically everyone else drops out while Rean stays to finish his schooling. Everyone else figures out what they want to actually do with their lives and move to do that and Rean doesn't.

The Reverie corridor ends the game like a fucking wet fart By this point you are just tired of the game Imagine if Reans story ends in the infernal castle,everyone just says their farewells and the Crosbell side story is the last thing you play It would have been so fucking good,it would have made you question Rean's motives for working in the government until the next game But no,you obviously have to reveal they are forcing him to do it now,fuck giving your story intrigue and nice end,go beat up the cryptids again

17:08 That is genuinely one of my favourite scenes in the entire trails. Towa is the first person that Rean lets down his defences like that iirc. That scene made me go for Towa in the following games despite usually preferring the "canon" routes.

You finally made it to the end of CS2! I will admit, as much as I loved The Occupation chapter, I speed ran through that final FINAL dungeon. Enough was enough. lol It was cool playing as every character and building your dram team though (more on that later xD). The scene with Millium crying at the end really hit me because there was a bonding event with her earlier in the game where she said that she had never cried before and then she let it all out. Thomas being revealed as a Dominion is a great twist. If you go back to the previous conversations with him in this game and CS1, he always had more voice acted lines than the other "important" npcs. Great job man. Looking forward to your continued descent into the madness that is the Kiseki series.

Rean isn't staying behind so much as everyone else is leaving. He's the only one who plans to do the full two years at the academy while everyone else is transferring/graduating early/dropping out to go do other stuff. They started taking accelerated courses during the month-ish he was away in Crossbell.

I don't know if you had Sara during the quest where you follow Gaius' teacher around in the finale, but if you do she wonders if he might be the Roaring Lion. Coincidentally this is actually not the first time the Roaring Lion has been mentioned, because Sky the 3rd mentions that he's the 8th Dominion, who lead the investigation of the Salt Pale incident (it's in the Salt Pale door).

Probably the most depressed I felt after finishing ANY game ever. The whole epilogue just makes you feel so conflicted.

The part where Rean collapses and pours out his pain and sadness in Towa's arms is one of my favorite Trails scenes ever. It's really powerful and stirring indeed; you could feel the raw emotion from his voice actor there.
