Trail run in Purisima Creek Redwoods Preserve
Every year for our anniversary, my husband and I typically go trail running together then go out to eat. This year marked 11 years and we decided to explore Purisima Creek Redwoods Preserve, up near Half Moon Bay. I ran a race on some of these trails back in April, but we had never been here together.
It was a hot but gorgeous day. We hiked the first 4M to skyline as it was mostly straight up, and then we enjoyed 5+ miles of downhill and flat single track. For anyone who lives locally, this is a beautiful park filled with different microclimates, with the redwood sections giving off Big Basin / Nisene Marks / Henry Cowell vibes.
My husband made a little video with the action cam, and capt...

Sports Nutrition Product Review: Spring Energy's NEW Awesome Sauce
Просмотров 28День назад
Spring Energy just announced that “Awesome Sauce is back” and “all product variance issues have been solved.” That calls for a product review to see if they have truly “rectified this issue” as they claimed or (spoiler alert) created another product that falls short. Spring’s original Awesome Sauce claimed to have 0g fat, 45g carbs, and 180cal (which we now know was not true). The NEW version s...

    I've taken up Running after 10 or so years of MTB. My Diet post rides were pretty much Coronas and Burritos with the boys after 30 or so miles of Ascents and Descents. Sadly I can't eat that in Running. So glad I came across this channel. Subbed.

      I'm glad you found it too - welcome! :) Burritos and a beer or two certainly can be included as part of an overall diet as a runner too. But you always have to go based on what feels best in your body!

    I am interested in Ultra fueling for vegans. I tend to eat a good substantial dinner super early night before. Begin early and start fueling with a vegan breaded patty about mile 6 and every 4 to 6 miles thereafter with about 100 to 200 calories of carb and protein then later in race it's mostly small fruit bars. I do get some need to poop later in race or feel full of food and water and don't feel like it is digesting so I'm not benefiting from the fuel. Also, I get soo puffy. My stomach retains water so bad late in race and not sure if it is dehydration ot over hydration. Literally looks like a tube of fluid around my waist.

      Hey thanks for your comment! I can't provide any individualized advice on here but appreciate you suggesting ultra fueling for vegans as a future topic. I'm not sure if you already watched/listened to episode 69 on fueling for ultras with Julie but that's a great starting point in terms of general fueling goals, and we also talk about many different options out there that are vegan (eg vegan recovery drinks, nut butter based things, vegan bars, potatoes, etc). Good luck and thanks for listening!

      haha yes I might die if I attempted a European trail race lol. I'm too used to the flowy single track out here in CA where a 7,000 ft 50k is "a lot" :)

    I appreciate this perspective that you can make changes for the better without strict approach like vegan or carnivore. I used to eat a considerable amount of meat but in recent years I have included more beans, tofu and nuts to replace animal proteins. As a runner I am often concerned with gut wellness and my ease of digesting the food I eat. There is no doubt in my experience that I feel lighter, more regular and energetic than if I am eating more meat and cheese. Much credit due to Rich Roll and his many impressive plant based guests, who have proven through action and commitment that there are clearly benefits to plant based nutrition. All of that being said I still intend to remain an omnivore with a focus on portion control when it comes to meat and dairy. Conversations like this one are so valuable to those of us interested in consuming the right things for performance but lack the formal education to know exactly why, when and what to include in our diets.

    • @eatforendurance
      @eatforendurance 7 месяцев назад

      I'm so glad you found the episode helpful! For sure the messaging was you do not need to label yourself and strictly follow a diet to reap the rewards of plant based eating. That said, athletes can absolutely be successful being vegan or veg if they desire!

    I loved this race! Ran it for the first time ever this year. I was a little nervous about the 3 miles of sand, but it was runnable and not a problem at all. The only thing that set me back was that last downhill on the rugged trail. Had to really slow down for that since I was recovering from an injury. Definitely running it next year!!
