"Distress needs to be normalized" - Thank you for this powerful sentence!
Thanks for Sharing LaRell and Valerie. Keep on keeping on . 🐿
Really rich conversation. Thank you. As a recently “detransitioned” (as if this were physically possible) older woman, I resonate with the grief aspect while, simultaneously, I am experiencing radical acceptance of myself as the woman I was born to be.
Wow! Nice to meet you. Thanks for coming to my channel. Have you shared your story anywhere I could read or watch?
Bernard Lane’s latest substack post, written by psychologist Dianna Kenney goes into everything that’s wrong - and diagnostically unscientific - about the current approach to ‘treatment’. Personally, I’m on board with Valerie’s observations about the medical system, and concur about self-healing, but the way this will be changed is likely by doctors and scientists coming forward and saying ‘our current model makes no sense’.
I’ve greatly enjoyed and benefited from LaRell’s insights into his experience with a trans identity, and Valerie seems like an incredibly intelligent, insightful, and compassionate woman. Their story needs to be shared far and wide!
Thank you LaRell and Valerie. I've been watching LaRell's videos and am moved by your story and grateful for your generosity in bringing forward another dimension to this complex condition. I have been doing a (completely unscientific) study on how many trans people and detransitioners say they are from restrictive religious backgrounds and the number is high. Also high is the number of male to female trans people and detransitioners who have a background of abuse in one form or another. Blaire White recently conceded that her trans identity was, in part, a trauma response.
how can folk be mis-diagnosed when they are not diagnosed but affirmed?
Even as an adult, I prefer "go ahead and try it" myself. If I'm immersed in a task and trying to think through all my options and strategize, outside input helps IF it is pointing out an option I hadn't considered, but not if it's just an opinion about what to do that I might just legitimately disagree with and subsequently prove wrong. There's nothing wrong with submitting an idea to "the test of reality."
With the example of the child who was reluctant to play with slightly older children, you should also consider the possibility that he has entirely different reasons for not wanting to play with them and is just giving you reasons that he thinks will get you to drop the subject. I did that a lot when I was very young and adults would question me. Once, a teacher tried to get me to read a classic novel, because I was an advanced reader. I read a few pages and decided I didn't like it, but when the teacher asked me about it, I was ashamed to admit I hadn't read it, so I cried. She asked if I was crying because it was a sad book, so I nodded like "Yeeeeah....let's go with that."
Oh I'm well aware of that haha. He was making an excuse for being shy, because his actual shyness toward other children conflicts with his boisterous personality at home. I wasn't going to stop and explain this when the point was to interview Dr. Ortiz.
If you’re a gay man, you are often nothing to straight men. If you become a transgender woman, suddenly you are an irresistible sexual fetish to many of them. To me, the desire to please and have relationships with heterosexual men, and escape the stigma and discrimination that feminine gay men sometimes suffer, could be a big driver behind MtF transitions.
39:18 I'm getting claustrophobic just listening to you now.
33:23 Not gross and disturbing. It's gross and fascinating. People also refer to diseases as if they were beloved pets. "…my CFS, my allergies..." (often it's conditions that have been disease-ized).
Am I the only one who has a Trevor Project PSA notice right under the video? I live in Ireland.
but who blew up the pipeline?
Volumes of value
Maia, would you ever go into this 1:15:26 space again, and pass as male?
Probably not if being in the women’s section won’t make the women uncomfortable
I’ll mingle in Pacifica, probably a little old for you..❤ I’d love to be friends!
I’ve been subverting the Dominant Paradigm and am amazed by your story and perspective
This is WONDERFUL. So many great ideas, thank you both so much!
9:44 - wow. "What am I" - such honesty and truth. I must say that Corinna sounds and reasons as a thoughtful man (in the best possible meaning of the word.)
Few people acknowledge the suffering of parents in these gender distress situations.
Loved the conversation... thank you both
Lovely to hear Maia talk and how live is handled. Keep going!
Too much talking about it. When i was young if i told my dad i was a fem' then he'd hit me a clip around the ear. That boy grew into a man :)
Is anyone making a possible connection with the 'epidemic' of tattooing we see in the West? It seems like a gateway into or harbinger of a body image disorder.
The book link led to an error code
This is Maia from the interview- does this link work better?
@@MaiaPoet Thank you for replying! I just tried again and got the same error code! I'm very interested in checking it out. Are there any other links?
This is an incredible interview. Thank you both.
What a good conversation! A pleasure.
What an interesting and delightful guest. I could listen to her for hours. Maia speaks so many truths and adds fresh insights to the trans debate. Her journey is fascinating. Thanks for this interview.
Wow! Just finished podcast 🙏🙏🙏 What an episode Love to you both and allllllllll
The story of that father taking his life is heartbreaking. A pyrrhic victory for the mom; she'll have to live with blood on her hands until her dying day and the child will be scarred for life but hey, she has full custody.
Corinna is hilarious 😂 I enjoy listening to Corinna, even when discussing very painful subjects matters.
This was incredibly valuable! Thank you.
When truth has been lost to arbitrary ideology, I don't think it's melodramatic to consider the tectonic implications on civilization.
hobbies are so underrated. looking at something that's kind of intimidating (like maybe a particular macrame technique) and then trying it and figuring it out and maybe getting stuck but not giving up and then actually doing it and then repeating that process with harder things until you feel a level of mastery, man there are few things in life that feel better than that. and if you can do that with something low stakes like a hobby then you can take that skill and apply it to other things in your life like your self-care, finances, spirituality, health and fitness, etc. and then you're really living life. you don't have do big, amazing things to have an amazing life, you just have to practice getting better at the everyday things of life little by little - and hobbies are such a great way to build up your confidence in yourself and capabilities.
Excellent
Just came across your channel, i think your a very good interviewer, that is a very feminine quality. Great guest, i could tell he has a great regard for you.
Love Helen, protect her at all cost.
I enjoyed the discussion. I liked the firm way Jennifer Lahl expresses the ethical limitations but I also liked the more empathetic way of the philosophical musings of the presenter. As far as I am concerned all these questions have neen long resolved by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ who, at the same time warned us of "having to carry our cross" and the "narrow gate", the grief of which the presenter spoke. But, what is happening nowadays is a society where "in absence of God all is permitted "as Dostoyevski has said. The right or wrong of our actions will be understood out of their consequences. It might take some time and suffering but the truth will shine.
A crystal clear thinker and an inspiration to us all.
Oh dear..... He "has an *_excellent_* male skeleton" & "had an *_excellent_* male body, with an abdomen (he says was) like a Greek statue".... says it all, really. :-/ Narcissistic, much.... 😅
This so beautiful!!!!
Something so needed and you don’t want to touch! Unbelievable! When will the madness stop
Since “I am” will probably always take presence among the young over “I ought to be,” I suspect this madness will never stop. We may have entered a new age with modern communication technologies in which humans will remain fundamentally changed. Hopefully, we can avoid extinguishing ourselves as we learn to grapple with the new macro-narratives that fuel our lives.
Dr Mengele, the father of trans activism, can finally rest in peace, his legacy lives.
This is so valuable on so many levels. Recognizing the current demand of the system as it is set up to have zero errors for the victims, their parents, and those genuinely trying to help is kind of mind-blowing. Very demonic.
Great conversation, what a cool guy
I carried a sign that said "Get the Cult Out of Schools" and a trans activist punched me in the face. His sign read "No place for hate" But this was at an outdoor rally
They only feel entitled to hate. His punch (i hope you're ok) feels justified to him as they consider words equal to violence.
Wear a bodycam.
Such a great episode 🙏🙏🙏
Love the “listen to others- they’ve likely been hurt and want to be heard” This is my biggest mistake I cram fact after fact like a storm thinking somehow something will land and this all clears up 😂🙏 I will def listen more!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 nice pod! Thanks stephanie and steve!! I wish I had an X account sometimes :) RUclips/Rumble comment section is all I have 😂
I admire Steve, those of us who are retired and have the time should be out there spreading the truth. I’m one of them that should think about doing something to change the tide of this horror.
For what it's worth, I have two jobs and little spare time. No one has to wait until retirement.
