  • Sara Stockton is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, lecturer, researcher, and clinical supervisor of a psychotherapy practice in New York who has done a complete 180 on the subject of youth gender transition. Ms. Stockton spent the first part of her career advocating for “gender affirming care” in the treatment of trans-identified youth. Starting in 2008, her work with this population included traveling to train medical facilities, physicians, and schools on “gender affirmation.” In 2013, she co-authored one of the first mental health assessments in the US utilized to assess youth “readiness for gender transition." She treated over 100 families, and wrote many of the first letters that were used to approve surgeries on minors, before a change of perspective shifted the focus of her work. More recently, she was featured in the documentary “What is a Woman,” where she decided to speak out about her moments of doubt and realizations, and her decision to raise awareness about the pitfalls of this approach. She has also been interviewed by Jordan Peterson and on Gender: A Wider Lens.
    In this episode, Sara shares her journey from being a young graduate student specializing in gender issues to her eventual shift in focus towards sex therapy. We discuss the lack of historical context and critical examination of the treatment protocols for transgender-identified youth; the pressure to conform to a specific narrative without questioning the long-term consequences; and ways in which young therapists’ naïveté, openness, and eagerness to prove themselves can all be utilized to further an agenda that might more easily be recognized as sinister by more grounded individuals.
    Sara opens up about the ethical dilemmas she encountered, including the issue of informed consent and the pressure to prescribe irreversible medical interventions to young people. We explore the concept of autogynephilia and its implications for understanding the motivations behind gender identity. We touch on the hyper-sexualization of youth in the context of gender issues; the links between sexual deviance and the “trans” movement; and the challenges of navigating discussions around sexuality and intimacy with young clients.
    Sara shares a pivotal moment in her career when she encountered a detransitioner and realized the lack of support and resources available for those who regret their transition. We discuss the vulnerability of individuals during times of struggle and the potential for manipulation and exploitation.
    This episode raises important questions about the need for a more critical approach to gender issues. Join us as we delve into these complex topics and challenge the prevailing narratives surrounding trans-identified youth. Find Sara on X @MrsSaraStockton or at www.stocktonscoaching.com/

    Great chat, thank you both. Lots of food for thought there. Really appreciate you sharing your insights. Here in Australia we have Affirmation Only and a refusal to inquire into what's happening in our gender clinics, even despite detransitioners etc sharing their stories and parents pleading for proper, evidence based help.

    I am a graduate level registered nurse working in behavioral health and I found this podcast to be very illuminating. I am the ultimate, on the ground, “drug pusher,” my job is to make sure…I am the one that actually talks the patients into swallowing the prescribed pills that have been ordered for their condition, I am appalled and physically sickened by my job description in order to earn the paycheck I need to survive. I would never knowingly harm anyone and I’m questioning what to do (career wise) for a job to help be a servant to those in need when I have over $100,000 in student loan debt. Please advise.

      Could you continue with the Psychology route and specialise in a different demographic - such as couselling adults / CBT practitioner ?
      Or, could you train online to **teach** the specialty you currently practice in ?
      Also - in the UK there is an area of practice called Motivational Interviewing : a Motivational Interviewer helps people with issues such as alcohol addiction and supports them to turn their lives around.....
      Finally, with your background, you could become a professional Mediator : Mediators are often needed in large corporations or in healthcare settings when there are personal disputes/breakdowns in professional relationships ....

    Thank you for your explanation and exploration of the Dutch protocol. I've been listening to various proponents of transitioning and have gleaned that the idea of puberty blockers came from adults who were unhappy with their results. Instead of addressing the real reason they were unhappy (no one can actually change sex), the doctors and patients came up with this idea of puberty blockers and pushed it without any testing or thought of what the other consequences would be. Thank you for explaining where this idea came from.

    Re: the diaper thing, I think this is just a paraphilia same as AGP. Paraphilias typically develop at a young age and stay with the person for life. The person who pursues the interest of their paraphilia usually does see it as part of their sexuality-namely that it is not only done for sexual arousal, but also done for comfort. ABDLs, furries, AGPs, even that guy who married his car-there is a comfort component, it is not arousing 24/7. I think this how Phil Illy arrived at his conclusion that AGP is a sexuality, because it can feel that way to the person who engages in it. However, I would still call it a paraphilia because it is atypical sexual behavior and has nothing to do with sexual orientation (not gay, straight, or bisexual).

    • @boogiemcsploogie
      @boogiemcsploogie 6 месяцев назад +4

      AGP really does feel like an orientation unto itself, but I respect the views of people who don't see it that way, it's impossible to relate an experience to a non-experience. In the self-aware AGP community of which I am a part, it seems the vast majority of us suffered severe emasculation trauma as young children, leading to a paraphilia and identity fragmentation that strongly resembles a dissociative disorder.

    • @Jane-ow7sr
      @Jane-ow7sr 6 месяцев назад

      @@boogiemcsploogie the emasculation bit is what I was thinking about since they mentioned diapers, crossdressing, and other child related or feminine things. Even the car makes sense.
      Now, I have no knowledge about any of this stuff but my assumption is that these people were probably brought up in a female majority environment or had an abusive male figure or absent male figure who taught them nothing which pushes them towards more feminine comforts that are associated with running to "mom", childhood comforts etc.

    The story of that father taking his life is heartbreaking. A pyrrhic victory for the mom; she'll have to live with blood on her hands until her dying day and the child will be scarred for life but hey, she has full custody.

    I'd bet that the transwoman phenomenon is a result of the newly found and observed privileges of a hot woman in screen world. Who - in some ways - wouldn't want that degree of attention?

    Could it be possible that sexual repression and shame around any kind of sexual conduct, even healthy responsible sexual conduct, that is put on religious people as children, can cause sexual desires to be pushed down and then later pop up as things like AGP and diaper wearing?

    • @boogiemcsploogie
      @boogiemcsploogie 6 месяцев назад

      I can only speak to the AGP perspective, it seems the vast majority of us were already sensitive and shy boys, but also suffered severe emasculation trauma as young children. The mind sexualized the trauma and voila! Now we're stuck with this weird sexuality that only works via feminization fantasies.

      It probably has some effect.
      In more secular countries/regions, gender is not a problem to the same extent as in more religious places. This is just my personal observation, not based on any science.

    You may know this, but my personal experience is you can not really know until you begin or go through puberty that you are the sex you were born as. To put kids on puberty blockers so they can discover who they really are is ridiculous. There is way too much discussion to kids about puberty, they are being scared. It is rough for most of us and we get through it.

    1:11:15 Stephanie's reaction to porn addiction is surprising too. It's not surprising to have kids with porn addiction, nor should they be considered wrong for it, they just need help if it is messing up their lives.

    Kind of a judgmental reaction at 30:35 by Stephanie. Many religious men are big gun lovers, but most people would not consider that to be weird in a Christian. But it's weird for a person with a fetish to be (or at least think of themselves as) a Christian or a religious person? Stephanie seems shocked that this lady has a clientele that is not what she had assumed about them.

      I was not pleased with her judgmental response to this phenomenon on a public podcast. It's unprofessional, to be honest, because other people might see her response and never get help with it if they need it. Sarah, on the other hand, was amazingly compassionate.
